Newfoundland Church Society Reports
Listed by District

For a description of the beginnings and early activities of this group, please refer to an excellent article (Description of the Newfoundland School Society) in the Encyclopedia of Newfoundland

  1. Please remember a couple of important points. First of all, the individuals listed in the reports had donated throughout the year, and the date does not necessarily mean that those individuals lived in the towns listed, nor were alive at the official date of the report. However, there is a good chance that people listed were still alive at the time of the report living in the towns listed. Secondly, these lists by no means included all towns in existance at their time of publication. Nor were they a comprehensive listing for people living in the towns listed, like a directory or census might be. They only list the individuals who donated something to the society. Therefore, if you don't find an individual you are looking for, don't despair. It might mean that he could not, or had not donated to the society.

Important: The date listed in the index is the date the report was published.  The reports normally covered the previous school year. Therefore, the report does not mean that an individual listed in the report was living in that town on the date of the report, but rather in that town sometime in the previous year or so. These reports have been made possible by the work of over 2 dozen people at the cost of a great deal of time and money.  Special thanks are extended to these great peopl This project was conceived of, and headed by Michael Cooper If you discover any errors as to the districts that communities are assigned to, please contact me,
