Bonavista Bay

St. Nicholas Anglican Church

Flat Island
before 1958

A photo of St. Nicholas' Anglican Church on Flat Island, Bonavista Bay.

It was burned after all the people left the islands. The church was deconsecrated
on November 21, 1967 by Rev. Cheeseman and it was burned on
August 20, 1968. Tom recalls that several men went down in boats
to the island and burned the church. However, before this was done,
everything was removed so it was just a shell that was burned.
The War Memorial that stood in front of the church
(which you can see in the picture) was taken to
the Eastport Church where it stands today.
