Joseph and Margaret Newman 1920's Picture of my Great Grandparents Joseph and Margaret (Donahue) Newman. Joseph Newman was born in Joe Batts Arm on May 23, 1854. He was the son of William and Mary Newman of Barr'd Islands, Nf. Joseph Newman married Margaret Donahue on Nov 12, 1879. Margaret Donahue was born in Joe Batts Arm on April 10, 1859. She was the daughter of Michael Donahue and Mary Burke of Conception Bay and Tilting Harbour respectively. Joseph and Margaret Newman were the first settlers of Boyd's Cove, Nf. Granny Newman was a midwife and when she died Nov 22, 1940 the radio reported that she needed 11 more babiesto make 1000.
