Passed away peacefully on Thursday,
August 2, 2007 at the Dr. Hugh Twomey
Health Care Centre, Botwood, Abi G. Pickett of Centreville,
age 81 years. Predeceased by his wife, Amelia Pickett (Anstey); daughter,
Elsie; parents, Gladys and Samuel; sisters, Lucy Matthews and Ella Mae;
and brothers, William and Martin. Left to mourn with fond and loving
memories are his son, Boyce (Annie); daughters, Joan (Harry Ackerman)
and Joy (Calvin Ackerman); stepson, Patrick Anstey (Marie); sisters,
Delilah Cutler, Ella Mae (Llewellyn Hunt) and Irene; nine grandchildren;
14 great-grandchildren and a wide circle of relatives and friends. Funeral
took place on Saturday, August 4th from St. Barnabas Anglican Church,
Centreville with Rev. W. Short officiating. Interment followed from the

Passed peacefully away on August 6, 2007 at Bonnews
Lodge, Badger’s
Quay, Gladys Starkes of Valleyfield, age 95 years. Predeceased
by her husband, Wilfred Starkes; daughter, Carrie Quinlan; and a number
of brothers, brothers-in-law, sisters and sisters-in-laws. Left to mourn
with fond and loving memories are daughters, Myrtle (Eli King) of Valleyfield,
Blanch (Joseph Sturge) of Ontario, Marjorie (Pleman King) of Valleyfield,
Bernice (William Knee) of Lewisporte; son-in-law, Gordon Quinlan of Birchy
Bay; brother, Richard Hunt (Lilly) of Clarkes Beach; sisters-in-law,
Myrtle Starkes of Ontario, Grace Hunt of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Letsie
Hunt of St. John’s; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four
great-great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends.
Funeral took place on Thursday, August 9th at the Grace Pentecostal
Tabernacle, Valleyfield with Pastor Dwayne Mews officiating. Interment
followed at the Grace Pentecostal Cemetery, Valleyfield. Donations may

Passed peacefully away in the presence of his family on Friday,
August 10, 2007 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Preston
A. Genge,
age 81 years. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife,

(Glenn) Cooper, Richmond, BC, and son, Timothy (Trudy) Genge, Gander,

Selma Hedge, Hertha (Fred) Blackwood; one brother, Ralph (Elvie) Genge;
as well as a large number of family and friends and Masonic Brethren.
Funeral service was held on August 13, 2007 at St. Martin’s Anglican

Leaving us and moving on to a better place, Morris Collins, age 41 years.
There, he will be reunited with his brother, Floyd and sister, Nancy.

BRETT, Hardy
Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander
on August 16, 2007, age 82 years. Predeceased by parents,
Allan and Amelia Brett and sister, Vera Small. Left with loving memories
are his wife, Melvina; sons, Terrence (Rosalyn) of St. John’s,
Wayne (Angela) of Ottawa; brother, Raymond ( Marion) of Morton’s
Harbour, sister, Audrey (Don)Curnew of Gander. Three grandchildren, April,

BUNGAY, Colonel Roy
It is with great sadness that the family of Colonel Roy Bungay announces
his passing on August 17, 2007 at James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander,
NL. Colonel Bungay was Promoted to Glory with his family at his side
and is survived by his loving wife, Joy, sons Rodney (Paulette), Roger
(Mary) and Raymond (Sheila), and five grand-children: Jonathan, Janaine,
Kiri, Sara and Jenna. Also left to mourn are his parents, Kenneth and
Elsie; brothers: Carl (Ethel), Merrill (Cecilia), Kevin (Jackie), Wayne
(Deborah), and Lorne (Jackie); sisters: Blanche (Harry Harris), Joan
(Barry Collier) and Lorriena (David Allison). Colonel's Roy and Joy Bungay
served in overseas ministry and executive leadership in Canada, Singapore,
Malaysia, South Africa, and Papua New Guinea. Visitations at Stacy's

in celebration of his life was held at the Salvation Army Gander Citadel.

Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital , Gander
on August 20, 2007, Mr. Javis Hodder, age 78 years.
Predeceased by parents, Arthur and Agnes and brother, Wilson. Left with

EDWARDS, Martin (Max)
At Lakeside Home in Gander on
Tuesday, August 21, 2007. Martin is survived by Betty,
his wife of 63 years; daughter, Jean Edwards Stacey (Peter); sons,
Paul (Susan), Peter and Kenny (Jung Ae); brother, Ken; grandchildren,
David, Robyn and Chris (So Won) Stacey and Scott Edwards. Predeceased
by sister-in-law, Ena Farrell Edwards and nephew, Shawn Edwards. Born
in Lawn, Placentia Bay on October 11, 1917, Martin was the son of Martin
and Mary (Molly Green) Edwards. Served overseas with the 125 (Newfoundland)
Squadron, RAF during World War Two. He married Betty Kern of Swansea,
Wales on April 18, 1944. Settled in Gander in 1946 where Betty still
lives. Funeral service at St. Joseph 's RC Church in Gander August

Passed away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on Tuesday,
August 21, 2007, Mrs. Doris Pennel of Noggin Cove in her 91st year.
Predeceased by her brother, Raymond Goodyear, sisters, Olive Wells, Pearl
Angel (Ellsworth) and Reta Goodyear. Left to mourn with fond and loving
memories are her husband, Dorman Pennell of 67 years; three sons, Bruce
Pennell (Daphne); Barry Pennel (Violet) and Terry Pennel (Marie), all
of Noggin Cove; one sister, Jean Potter of Embree; six grandchildren,
Tony (Rosalyn), Tina (Scott), Wanda (Rod), Jason (Deena), Christina (David)
and Jerry (Arlene); seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jamie, Stephanie,
Tiffany, Brandon, Mikayla and Jenica; and also a large circle of other
relatives and friends. Funeral service took place on Friday, August 24th from the United Church in Carmanville with Rev. Andrews officiating.

Passed peacefully away on Sunday, August 26, 2007 in ICU at the Health
Sciences Centre in St. John’s, Mr. Eldon Moss of Salvage, aged
77 years. Predeceased by son, Lloyd; parents-in-law, Annie Jane and Edward
Burden; sisters, Jessie, Olive, Annie and Stella; and brother, Jim. Left
to mourn his loving and very devoted wife for almost 56 years, Delphine;
his daughters, Judy Jewison (Rick) and Nita Feltham (Ephraim); sons,
Winston (Pamela), Gregory (Michele) and Shawn (Lori); his 12 grandchildren;
and his only sister, Ivy Brown (Frank). Also left to mourn are many other
relatives and a huge circle of friends, all of whom loved and admired
him dearly.
POWER, Gertrude F. (nee Wall)
Passed peacefully away after a courageous battle with cancer on August
28, 2007, surrounded by her loving family, Gertrude
Frances Power, age
77 years. Gertrude battled her illness with courage, strength and dignity
teaching all of us to keep our faith. Gertrude was predeceased by her
loving husband, Alonzo; son, Jim; and granddaughter, Lisa Marie. She
leaves to mourn with many fond and loving memories her four daughters,
Jocelynne Hussey (Allister), Tina Power, Jacinta Rodgers (Fraser) and
Marylou, Robertson (Scott; three sons, Alonzo (Doreen), Perry (Eunice)
and Brendan; daughter-in-law, Pearl Power; brother, Leo Wall (Florence);
two sisters, Mary Dwyer and Agnes Ford (Cyril); sisters-in-law, Bride
(Mary) Glynn, Mary Wall, Madeline Ronayne and Joan Wall; also left to
mourn are 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a large extended

COOKE, Frances Fanny Passed peacefully way on August
29, 2007 at the James Paton Memorial
Hospital, Gander, Frances Fanny Cooke. She was 65. Predeceased
by her father, Moses Peddle; husband, Edmund Cooke. Left to mourn are
daughters, Orilla (husband, Tony Pardy) of Gander, Cindy, Pauline (husband,
Duane Michelin) of Corner Brook and Candace. Also leaving to mourn sister,
Bernice Noseworthy and mother, Olive Peddle; brother, Wesley Peddle;
son-in-law, Robert Sheppard; four grandchildren and a large circle of
other relatives and friends. Reverend David Coffin conducted funeral
services at St. Nicholas Anglican Church in Leading tickles on August
31st. Interment was at the Anglican Cemetery in Leading Tickles. Funeral
arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Homes, Botwood. Pallbearers were
Wesley Peddle, Tony Pardy, Duane Michelin, Kyle Michelin, Phonse Cooke
and Brandon Sheppard.
HARVEY, Nathan
Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at Brookfield Hospital,
Nathan Harvey of Cape Freels, age 93 years. Predeceased by his parents,
Maggie and Darius Harvey; wife, Elizabeth; brothers, Edward and Willis;
sister, Leah. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his sons,
Roland (Linda) of Toronto, ON, Raymond (Muriel) of Ft. McMurray, AB;
daughters, Leah Stokes (William) of Cape Freels, Margaret Hunt (Percy)
of St. John’s; sisters-in-law, Josie Kean (Lester) of Badger’s
Quay, Myra Hounsell (Lloyd) of Valleyfield; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren;
several nieces, nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service took place at Ebenezer United Church, Brookfield on September
1st with Rev. Tim Bowman officiating assisted by Rev. Heather Sandford.
Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Brookfield. Donations
