PLOUGHMAN, Myrtle -
Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Health Center on February 1, 2010, Myrtle Ploughman, age 85 years. Predeceased by husband, Reuben; sisters, Miriam (Jack) Ploughman, Nellie, Lucy (Walter) Lush. Left with loving memories are her sisters, Adelaide (Hiram) Elliott of Gander, Margaret (Robert) White of Bradford, ON, also a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service was held Friday, February 5th at 2:00 P.M. from St. Martins Anglican Cathedral, Gander. Interment All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donation in Myrtle's memory may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or a Charity of One's Choice. QUINTON, Samuel -
It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Sam Quinton, a loving father (Dianne, Linda, Jason and Mike), brother, Arthur (predeceased), Selena, Steve and Ed; husband, grandfather and friend to many. Sam died peacefully on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander, NL at the age of 72. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched. RALPH, Charles James -
Peacefully passed away at Ross Memorial Hospital, Lindsay, Ontario on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, Charles James Ralph, formerly of Eastport, NL and Flat Island, NL at the age of 78. Charlie was the beloved husband of Ida Ralph of Fenelon Falls, ON. Loving father of Bruce (Natalie), Sandra (Michael). Loving grandfather of Stephanie, Jessica, Brooklyn and David. Survived by his brother, Albert and predeceased by Neville, son of the late Aaron and Susie Ralph. Remembered by many nieces and nephews. You will be sadly missed Charlie by all your family and friends. A Celebration of Charlie's life took place at St. James Anglican Church, 19 Bond Street East, Fenelon Falls on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 2pm. KEATS, Theodore -
Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Health Center, Gander on February 4, 2010, Theodore Keats, age 90 years. Predeceased by wife Annie; brother, Fred and sister, Dora. Left with fond and loving memories are his sons, Suley (Alice) of Benton, Allan (Cindy) of Benton, Fred (Sandra) of St. John's, Calvin (Linda) of Benton; daughters, Geraldine Keats (Johnny Eastman) of Benton, Effie (Bob) Stares of Benton, Kathleen (Cyril) Barrett of Benton, Madeline (Calvin) Crocker of Benton, Eileen (Winston) Piercey of Fort McMurray, AB, 114 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. FREAKE, Margaret -
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Margaret Freake (nee Penney) on February 8, 2010 at Lakeside Homes, Gander. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Peter on May 19, 2006 and will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Harris; special friend, Emily; sister-in-law, Thelma Freake, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a large circle of other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Gabriel, the excellent staff of Lakeside Homes, Rev. Stephanie and faithful visitors, Iris and Betty for their care and concern. Our thanks also to the many friends who in various ways, helped alleviate our sorrow. Funeral took place on Thursday, February 22 from Fogo Island United Church with Reverend George Stockley officiating. Internment at the United Church Cemetery, Joe Batt's Arm. WHITE, Maude -
Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Saturday, February 13, 2010, Maude White in her 78th year. Predeceased by her husband, William (January 7, 1998); parents, Enos and Mabel Parsons. Leaving to mourn with loving memories her son, Shawn (Judy); two grandchildren, Brad and Shauna; one brother, Joe (Mary); sisters-in-law, Minnie White, Sarah White and Betty White; and a large circle of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. ANSTEY, Julia (nee Hann) -
Passed peacefully away at Melville Gardens Nursing Home, Halifax, NS on February 14, 2010. She formerly resided in Gander and Twillingate, NL. Julia is survived by her husband, John, also of Melville Gardens; son, Wayne (Theresa) of Barrie, ON; daughters, Sandra (Linda) Jardine of Australia and Beverley (Bill) Anstey-Fisher of Hammonds Plains, NS; also six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be at a later date in Twillingate, NL No flowers by request. Donations in Julia's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

ABBOTT, Gershon -
Passed away at James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander on Friday, February 19, 2010, Mr. Gershon Abbott of Musgrave Harbour in his 77th year. Predeceased by his parents, Baxter and Gertrude Abbott; son, Kevin Abbott; brothers, Maxwell Abbott and Leo Abbott. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Mereida; son, Keith (Dale) of Musgrave Harbor; three daughters, Colleen Hicks (Harvey) of Musgrave Harbor, Joy Guy (Bob) of Musgrave Harbour, Denise Wheaton (Neil) of Frederickton; daughter-in-law, Kay Abbott of Musgrave Harbor; sister, Marie Sturge of Gander; eight grandchildren, Jamie, Gregory, Brenton, Paul, B.J., Christopher, Lucas and Jennie; eight great-grandchildren, Brianna, Skye, Kaylee, Tristin, Izabelle, Haylee, C.J. and Tyrese; and also a large circle of other relatives and friends. POIRIER, Muriel Mary (nee Kelly) -
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Muriel Mary (Kelly) Poirier announce her passing on February 19, 2010. Muriel passed peacefully away at Lakeside Homes, Gander, at the age of 88 years, predeceased by her husband, Martin; son, Bill; brother, Patrick; sisters, Agnes and Monica; and sons-in-law, Paul and Gene. Left with loving memories are her sons, Larry (Cathy) of Wabush, NL; Alex (Karen ) of Red Deer, AB; Pat (Wendy) of Labrador City, NL; Claude (Sue) of Gander, NL; daughters, Kay, Florence, Mary (Wilbert) all of Gander, NL, Anne (Dave) of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL; brothers, Gus (Betty) of Gambo, NL, Alex (Dora) of Gander, NL; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and a large number of family and friends. Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles Escasoni Complex, St. John's on February 22nd, 2010, George Woodford. age 88 years. Predeceased by his sister, Adaline Langdon and brother, Patrick Woodford. Left with loving memories are his wife, Mercedes Woodford; sons, Leonard (Dianne) of Mount Pearl, Rex (Anne) of Mount Pearl; daughters, Joan Casey of St. John's, Rosemary (Richard) Hearn of Bay Bulls, Elaine (Roy) Pike of Appleton, Caroline (Vincent) Reid of Toronto, ON. OBERHOLZER, Hendrik (April 19, 1950 - February 23, 2010) -
Preceded by his mother, Anna Martha (Martie) nee Wolvaardt (1923-1985), his father, Christiaan Heronymus (Ronnie) Oberholzer (1919-1995), and his first wife, Martie nee Visser, who died on December 24.1981. Survived by wife, Stephanie Van Wyk; daughter, Cecilia Oberholzer; brother, Jan Oberholzer and family (Australia); sister, Louis Hensen and family (South Africa); brothers, Andries Venter and family (South Africa), and Johan Venter and family (South Africa). Hendrik was born in South Africa and qualified as a Paediatrician where he worked mostly in Paediatric Oncology. In 1991 Hendrik and his family immigrated to Canada and resided in Gander where he worked at the James Paton Memorial Hospital. He was involved in establishing the first Asthma Clinic at the James Paton Memorial Hospital in conjunction with the respiratory therapists. He also played an instrumental part in the development and implementation of the infant hearing screening program in 1991 in conjunction with the audiologists, which still exists. He played an active role in the Diabetic Clinic. His interests included listening to various types of music, collecting fine art and knives, watching action movies, cooking, cultivating orchids, participating in Rod and Gun Clubs in South Africa and Gander, and he had a passionate love for his dogs. He will also be remembered for his great sense of humor. Hendrik will be missed by his family and his devoted caregivers, Matthew Evans, Rebecca MacDougall, and Maureen Dyke.

WATERMAN, Fred -
Passed away suddenly in the comfort of his own home in Gander on February 24th, 2010, Fred Waterman, age 65 years. Left with loving memories are his wife, Effie; son, Craig of Gander; daughter, Lynn of Barrie, ON; brother, Joe (Geraldine) of Fogo; sister, Clara (Leslie) Wells of Fogo; brother-in-law Keith (Violet) Lane of St. John's, also a large circle of relatives and friends. Resting at Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander. Funeral Service Saturday, February 27th from Fraser Road United Church. Inurnment All Saints Cemetery. HOWELL, Dwayne William -
Passed away at his residence in Wesleyville on February 26, 2010, Dwayne William Howell, age 37 years. Predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Sadie Howell. Leaving to mourn with loving and beautiful memories are his soulmate and partner, Cheryl Perry; sister, Marilyn Goodyear (Joe) of Badger's Quay; nephews, Chris Goodyear (Wanda), Jamie Goodyear (Stacey); niece, Wanda Goodyear (Loran), special niece, Haley Hunt, special nephew, Austin Goodyear and a circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place on March 3rd at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove with Rev. Heather Sandford officiating. Interment followed at the Jubilee United Church Cemetery, Wesleyville. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove/Musgrave Harbor.

ROGERS, Timothy -
Passed peacefully away at Lakeside Homes, Gander on Sunday, February 28, 2010, Timothy Rogers, age 63 years of Wareham. Predeceased by his parents, Walter and Evelyn Rogers. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his daughter, Karen; two granddaughters; sister, Anita Parsons (Norman) of Ontario; nieces and one nephew; and other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Wareham on March 3rd with Rev. David Coffin officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Wareham.
