GILL, Gwendolyn Phyllis (Taylor) (Nee Tucker) April 17, 1939 - Jan 8, 2011 -
Passed away peacefully on Saturday, January the 8th in St John's after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Born in St Anthony, NL, she lived in Ship Cove to the age of seven before moving to Newtown in Bonavista Bay. Recent years were spent between summers in Newtown and winters in St John's. Gwen was the loving mother of Ron, Steven, Lindsay, David, Pamela and Paula, grandmother of Kira, Mandi, Liam, Ryan, Callum and Cole, great-grandmother to Zackary and Carter; sister of the Tucker and Vincent clan; friend and confident to all. Lives are defined by how one lives; Gwen's life was defined by her children and the sacrifices she made to ensure their happiness, success, and well being. She was kind and compassionate, full of love, and generous to a fault. Never one to mince words, you always knew where you stood with her and she always called it as it was. Gwen had pride and confidence in her children, she always instilled a belief they could accomplish great things in their lives and careers, in the end they all made her proud. Gwen was full of life and enjoyed every moment with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. A huge fan of Elvis Presley, it was only befitting that she would pass away on the "Kings" birthday. Gwen had four sons while married to Jim Taylor. Her second marriage to Alpheaus Gill gave her much happiness and two sisters her boys never had. Although Gwen was predeceased by her husband, Alpheaus, the two families it brought together, created a bond which remains today. As per her wishes, Gwen was cremated in St John's on Jan 10th, a brief family memorial service was held by Captain Wade Budgell of the Salvation Army. A celebration of her life, a United Church service, and the internment of her ashes will take place in Newtown, Bonavista Bay later in the summer of 2011.
Gwen is sadly missed by all, but for those that knew and loved her, the wonderful memories that she left behind will remain forever.
