BAKER, Howard - 99, Port Hawkesbury/Mulgrave and formerly of Newfoundland, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. Born in Elliston, NL, he was a son of the late William and Elizabeth (Cole) Baker. Howard taught school up until 1939, when he went as a radio operator with the Ferry Command during World War II. He retired from Transport Canada after 35 years of service as an Electronics Technician. Surviving are daughter, Dorothy O'Leary (Robert Welsh), Mulgrave; sons, Lorne (late Beryl), Etobicoke, Ont; William (Shirley), Gander NL; Howard (Ramona), Halifax; James (Shirley), Edmonton, AB; and Keith (Janice), Mississauga, Ont; grandchildren, Sean O'Leary, Andrew O'Leary, Daniel O'Leary, Roland Baker, Robin Baker, Richard Baker, Roxanna Baker, Dean Baker, Yvonne Churchill, Lori Skinner, Leanna Spencer and Lisa Baker; 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife, Edna (Martin) Baker; son, Douglas. Special thanks to the staff at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home for all their care and kindness to our dad. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 11th at 10:00 A.M. from the Fraser Road United Church Gander, NL. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. EDWARDS, Betty
Betty Mary Edwards
, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully but unexpectedly in hospital in Gander on Saturday, January 5. She was 91 and would have celebrated her 92nd birthday on February 5. Mom was a war bride from Swansea, Wales, who first came to Gander with her husband, Martin (Max) in 1946. Mom and Dad were true pioneers of the town of Gander and it was their home for life. Predeceased by Martin, who passed away in 2007, she is survived by her daughter Jean (Peter Stacey) of St. John's; Paul (Jeannie Bennett and daughter Alyssa), Gander; Peter, Kamloops, B.C. and Kenny (So Qi), Shanghai, China. Also grandchildren David Stacey (Wilson), Toronto; Robyn Stacey, St. Catharines; Chris Stacey (So Won), Pusan, South Korea; Scott Edwards, Fort McMurray, Alberta, and great grandson Martin Stacey in Pusan, as well as relatives in British Columbia, England and Wales. Visitation took place at Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander. Funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 7th at 11:00 A.M from the Fraser Road United Church, Gander. Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Health Center on January 28th 2013 Bernice Francis age 79 years. Predeceased by husband Joseph, daughter Laura, granddaughter Shea, parents William and Edith Bursey, brothers Gordon, Eldred, sister Fanny and baby brother. Left with loving memories are sons Norman (Jean) of Gander Bay, Gary (Marina) of Gander Bay, Woodrow of St. John's, daughters Betty (Ray) of Gander Bay, Kim (Wayne) of Gander, brothers Nelson (Letta) of Lewing Cove, Roland (Bernadine) of Winnipeg, Glen (Betty) of Gander Bay, sisters Laura (Frank) of Red Deer, Josephine (Bill) of Gander Bay, Effie (Clayton) of Gander Bay, Stella (Mike) of Prescott, ON., Son-in-law Bill of St. John's . - age 92 years. Passed peacefully away at the Agnes Pratt Home on January 6, 2013 (on their wedding anniversary date) surrounded by his devoted family. Loving father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, Uncle and Newfoundland step dancer. Predeceased by wife, Vera (1995), son, Rennie (2009), brothers Samuel and Gerald. KNEE, E. Blanche
September 8, 1926 - January 11, 2013

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Blanche Knee on January 11, 2013, at the age of 86 years. Blanche is predeceased by her husband Peter Knee; sons, Albert Knee and Barry Knee; parents, Edward & Priscilla (Stagg) Attwood; son-in-law, Daniel Tulk; sisters, Ada Rendell and Maggie Pinsent. She leaves to mourn her sons; George (Joan) Knee, Andrew (Bernice) Knee, Harvey (Judy) Knee; daughters; Pamela (Michael) Mills and Yvonne Tulk; brother, Albert Attwood; Daughter-in-law Beatrice Knee. Blanche was known as "Nanners" to most of her grandchildren, Sandra, Lorne, April, Tammy, Trevor, Shawn, Shauna, LeeAnn, Patrick, Crystal, Jay, Bailey, Penny, and Jeremy; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Luke, Hannah, Alex, Ali, Amanda, Aidan, Jaymes, Tara, Brooklyn, Kevin, Liam, Alexa, Oliver, Chase. Blanche was well loved and will be forever remembered by family and friends. Rev. John E. K. Nicolle officiated the Funeral service at St. Alban's Anglican Church Sunday, January 13 at 2:00 p.m. Followed by interment at the St. Alban's Anglican Cemetery. MOSS, Donald
Passed away suddenly at his residence in Gander, Donald William Moss age 71 years. Predeceased by parents Wilfrid and Bertille, brothers Aidan and Lawrence, sister Diane O'Reilly, brothers-in-law Frederick Daniels and Michael Patrick Keough. Left with loving memories are his wife Joan Moss (Russell), sons Donny (Leslie) of Mississauga, Dale of Halifax and daughter Lee (Eric Worth) of Ottawa. He will be dearly missed by sisters Sylvia Daniels of Ottawa and Geraldine Keough of Plate Cove East and the O'Reilly family of Bishop's Falls. He was a proud grandfather to Abigail and Conor Moss, and beloved uncle to nieces Catherine Peters (John), Pauline Eells (John), Patricia Penton (Tom), Lisa Simpson (Roy), Lori Marcantonio (Peter) and Wendy Daniels. He leaves behind a large circle of family, friends and neighbors. Rested at Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander. Passed peacefully away after a short but courageous battle with cancer on January 6, 2013, at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander. Predeceased by his father, Fred Ralph (1978) and his mother, Olive Mae Ralph (January 2, 2013) and his sister, Marie. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 43 years, Stella (Patten) of Traytown. His daughters, Tara (Kevin Watkins) of Happy-Valley - Goose Bay, and Stephanie (Brad Canning) of Edmonton. His precious granddaughter, "Poppy's little angel", Alyssa of Edmonton. His sisters, Rita Gillingham (Upper Gullies) and Delilah Upshall (St. John's). His brother Truman (Joan) Ralph (Bishop Falls). His brother-in-law Bob (Karen) Patten (Corner Brook) and sisters-in-law, Katie McLean (PEI) & Millie Kennedy (Connecticut) , as well as a large circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Health Centre, Gander, on Friday, January 25th, 2013 Clement Richards, age 84. Predeceased by his parents William and Rhoda Richards, wife Florence Richards (Nee - Organ), brothers Arthur, Albert, William Richards, John Wyatt. Left to mourn with loving memories are his son Michael Richards (Sharon), grandson Johnathan (Krista), great-grandchildren Jack and Wyatt and a large circle of relatives and friends. RIGGS, Neatha Pauline
October 30, 1918 - January 12, 2013

Passed peacefully away at her home on January 12, 2013 Neatha Pauline (Stroud) Riggs, age 94 Neatha was predeceased by baby Clarence, her parents Sarah Ann and Baxter, four sisters and six brothers. Left to mourn are husband Clarence, daughters Marguerite, Evelyn (Jeff), sons Thomas, Phil (Lyla), grandsons Andrew and Jonathan and three precious great grandchildren Mathew Olson, Lauren and Ethan Riggs. Also, left to mourn are sister Mamie (Gen) Legge and sister-in-law Mildred Stroud, a large circle of relatives and friends and her wonderful caregiver Patricia Arnold. Neatha was well known for her cheerful and generous spirit and her lifetime volunteering in many community and church organizations. Her motto was "Give generously of yourself and your kindness will come back tenfold." She was a RCAF World War ll vet, received a 30 year service Order of the Red Cross and was among other things a Quilter, Artisan and Card Shark Extraordinaire. Her favorite parting remark was, "See you in the funnies!"

SLANEY, Andrew
Passed away on January 1st 2013 Andrew Slaney age 26 years. Predeceased by Mom Lori, grandparents Ruby and Dorman (Jack) Butt. Left with loving memories are his father Con (Sandra) of Gander, brother Brian of St. John's, girlfriend Ashley and their son Hunter, grandparents Nan and Pop Slaney. Also a large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Rested at Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander. Cremation followed. Funeral service was held Saturday January 5th at 2:00 p.m. from St. Martins Anglican Cathedral, Gander. Passed peacefully away surrounded by her loving family at the H.S.C. Emergency Department on Sunday, January 6, 2013, Viola Stagg (Butt) age 80 years, formerly of Valleyfield. Predeceased by her husband; Jerry, mother; Effie, father; Martin and brothers; Samuel and Freeman. Leaving to mourn with many treasured memories are her daughters; Judy (Len Sturge), Janice (Ray Mason), Christine (David Welcher) and Cathy (Stephen Lear). Grandchildren; Kelly and Kristy Sturge, Alex Mason, Joshua, Katherine and Jordon Welcher, Allison and Adrianna Lear and one great-grandson; Devin Sturge, sister-in-law; Betty Butt, special niece; Shirley Combden and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is survived by her husband Gerald, son Kevin (Cari), grandchildren Jacob, Darcy, Hendrik and Desiree, dog Casey, sister Kay (Boyce), brother Brian, brother in-law Don (Ruth), sisters in law Myrtle (Bill), Shirley (Peter), Patsy, Joan (Gerald), Peggy (Gerald), Carol (Jeff), special friends Mabel Norris, Ilse Kemp, Gwen Hollett, Betty Forward, members of the ACW and numerous nieces and nephews.
