BARBOUR, Samuel Bragg
(Died July 28, 2013)
59th Heavy Artillery WWII Veteran
of Valleyfield, Bonavista North. Passed peacefully away at his daughter's residence in Conception Harbour on July 28th, 2013, at the age of 93, surrounded by his loving family. Son of the late Stewart and Bessie (Bragg) Barbour. Left to mourn the loss are his devoted wife Margaret of 64 years, daughters: Judy (Donald) Snook in Conception Hr, Robyn (David) Beaudry in Portugal Cove - St.Philips, sons: David (Christine) Barbour in Portugal Cove-St Philips, and James (Alwyn) Kean in Harbour Grace; grandchildren Erica (Michiel), Deirdre (Glenn), Dayna (Kyle), Michael (Lisa), Valerie (Steven), Donna (Robert) and Michelle (Tony); 10 great-grandchildren, sister Lurley (Brown) and brother Joseph. Predeceased by parents-in-law Jacob and Margaret (Burry) Attwood, sisters Evelyn, Jean, Vivien, and brother Clayton. Sam was born in Safe Harbour and grew up following the traditions of logging and fishing. After Service, he would be involved with the seal fishery, or on his own long-liner 'James and Kathleen', or on experimental fishing vessels such as 'The Investigator'. He was employed by the Federal and Provincial Fishery Departments as 'Skipper' on trawlers such as the 'Straight Shore', 'Sand Lance', 'Blue Hake' and 'Oderin'. After retirement he lived a quiet and contented life with his wife, and imparted life skills to his grandchildren - always setting an example for others, and being a well-respected person in the community. At his request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove between 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Thursday, Aug 1st; and between 10-12am on Friday, Aug 2nd. To celebrate his life, a service will be held at Memorial United Church, Valleyfield, on Friday, August 2, 2013, at 2pm with Rev. Brian Hannon officiating. No flowers by request. Donations in his memory may be made to Memorial UC Cemetery Fund, Valleyfield or 2910 Lion's Army Cadet Corps, Badger's Quay (New-Wes-Valley). BUNGAY, Melina Elizabeth (nee Brown)
October 21, 1922 - June 30, 2013

Melina, of St. John's, formally of Trinity, Bonavista Bay, passed peacefully away after a lengthy illness at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital in her 91st year. Left with fond and loving memories are her husband of 67 years Nathan; daughters Gloria Newhook (Don), Linda Mitchell (Randy), and Melissa Mullen (Garry); sons Jeff (Janet), and Karl (Sherry); thirteen Grandchildren Vicki, Kirk, Tami, Michael, Bryan, Dean, Adam, Scott, Jeanine, Joshua, Jasmine, Jordan, and Julia; eleven great-grandchildren. Survived by her sisters-in-law Dorothy Brenton and Jessie Rogers; brother-in-law Art (Kitty) and a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. At Melina's request, cremation has taken place and no visitation will be held. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of 7 East at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital for their care and kindness

(February 11, 1957 - July 29, 2013)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a dear and loving wife, mother, daughter and sister at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on July 29, 2013, Karen Joan Dwyer age 56 years of Musgrave Harbour. Predeceased by her father; Alex Pearce, son; Jerry B. Bown. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are her husband; Jim, son; Jimmy of Musgrave Harbour, daughter; Linda of Musgrave Harbour, mother; Josie Pearce residing at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay, brothers; Wilson (Catherine) of Ontario, Brooklyn (Elaine) of Musgrave Harbour, sisters; Linda (James Attwood) of Valleyfield, Valerie Gillingham of New Brunswick and a large circle of other relatives and friends. ELMS, Dr. Lorne
1931 - 2013
Dr. Lorne Elms

Passed away July 23, 2013 at JPM Hospital after a short illness, Dr. Lorne Rene Elms, at the age of 81, he was born in Bay Robert's NL. Predeceased by his parents, four brother's and one sister. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife Eileen (nee Chafe), son Andrew (Tammy), Ottawa, stepsons Brian (Renate), Ottawa, David (Kelli), Zephyrhills FL, and Bill Hayes (Carmen) Edmonton,sisters-in-law, Eileen Elms (Clem) Gander and Winnifred Elms ( Clarence) Harbour Grace, Nl. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Abigail, Christopher, and Lucas Elms, Karen, Audrey and Emily Hayes. He also leaves a large circle of in-laws, nephews, nieces and friends. He was a graduate of Dalhousie Dental School. Lorne practiced dentistry in Lewisporte and Gander for 35 years until his retirement in 1996. Visitation will be held at Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander, NL on Monday, August 5th , from 2:00-4:00pm and 7:00-9:00 pm. Cremation has taken place and the funeral will be held at Fraser Road United Church, Gander, on Aug. 6 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Gander. GILLINGHAM, Effie I.
1925 - 2013

Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Health Center, Gander on July 27th 2013 Effie Gillingham age 88 years. Predeceased by parents Tom and Alice Gillingham, husband Charlie, sons Kevin and Nathan, great grandson Jack, sisters Dorothy, Stella and brother Rybert. Left with loving memories are her children Don (Barb) of Mississauga , Scott (Linda) of Victoria Cove, Bill of Kitchener, June (Harold) of George's Point, Gord (Marg) , Randy (Debbie), Joan (Norm) of Clarkes Head . 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents William and Ellen, wife Theresa, sister Annie, brother John, grandson Denie Cardinail, son-in-law Raymond Cardinail. Predeceased by her husband; Kenneth and other spouses and brothers; Hubert Kelloway, Elias Kelloway and Cluney Kelloway. Leaving to mourn; her husband and constant companion Gerald, son Tony (Eithne), daughters Donna (Wes Noseworthy) and Wanda (Larry Robinson), and grandson Tyler (girlfriend Charlotte). Also, niece and good friend Edna, brother-in-law Bernard (Florence) and sisters-in-law Patricia, Josephine and Dorothy,as well as a circle of family and friends. Special thanks to and our sincere appreciation of everyone working at Lakeside Nursing Home for their kindness and caring during Rowena's time with them and to Dr. Carmel Casey for her years of dedication and care. Predeceased by his parents; Samuel and Ethel (nee Dyke) White-Dalton, step-father; John Dalton, 2 sisters; Jean White, Elsie Dyke, brother; Gerald White and step sister-in-law; Marjorie Dalton.
