Passed suddenly away on Friday, November 2, 2007 at her residence in Salvage, Johanna Gertrude Dyke, age 88 years. Predeceased by husband, Llewellyn; sons, Stewart and Ralph; and daughter, Joyce. Leaving to mourn three daughters, Phoebe Parrell (John) of St. John's, June Napier (Edgar) of Sandy Cove, Mona Feltham (Charles) of Salvage; one son, Ted (Donna Johnston) of Toronto; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pleasance Dyke of Windsor and a large circle of special nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service was held on Monday, November 5th at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Salvage with Rev. Paul Thoms and Bishop Edward Marsh officiating. Internment followed at Anglican Cemetery, Salvage. Arrangements entrusted to Squire's Funeral Home, Eastport.

GRAY, Jabez -
Passed peacefully away on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Mr. Jabez Gray, age 82 years. Predeceased by his parents, George & Ida Gray; brothers, Jake and Caleb. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories is his wife, Susie Gray; daughters, Lynn (Claude) Gill and Janice (Brian) Kelly of Gander; grandchildren, Samantha Gill, Crystal Bull, Matthew Kelly; brother, Otto (Barbara) of Gander; sisters, Neta Thoms of St. Johns, Dorcas Cuff of Lumsden, Gertie Hicks of Alberta, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away on Sunday, November 4, 2007, at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander Rosalie M. Oake, aged 94 years. Predeceased by her husband, Harvey; sons, Paul and Harvey. Junior; and sister, Edna Squires; brothers, Lewis and Raymond. Passed peacefully away on November 5, 2007 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Marie Dorothy Dyke (Collins) of Hare Bay, Bonavista Bay, age 62 years. Predeceased by her parents, George and Mildred Collins; and sisters, Joan and Eva. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband, Kenneth; daughters, Wendy (Paul Brake) and grandson, Travis of Ontario, Linda (Donnie Moss) and granddaughter, Jasmine of St. John's; sons, Kevin (Marilyn) and grandson, Patrick of Ontario, Todd (Patsy) of Clarenville; one sister, Nellie (Harry Reid) of Appleton; two brothers, John (Beulah) of Ontario and Garfield of Hare Bay; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, November 6th, 2007 at the Health Sciences Center, St. John's, Thomas Harty, age 64 years. Predeceased by parents, James & Helen Harty; sister, Carmel Kelly; brother, Raymond; brother-in-law, Raymond MacArthur. Left with loving memories are his wife, Louise; daughters, Lori (Rodney) Loder of Gander, Janice (Dale) Hart of New Lowell, ON; brother, James (Doreen) of Gander; sisters, Theresa (Doyle) Hatch of Gander, Kathleen MacArthur of Gander; grandchildren, Chad and Samantha Loder of Gander. Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Otterbury Manor, Wesleyville, Clarice Spurrell, of Pool's Island, age 88 years. Predeceased by her husband, Fred; parents, Ezra and Esther Barefoot; brothers, James, Frank, Ewart, Jacob; sisters-in-law, Minnie Barefoot, Lucy Belbin, Ena Russell, Bertha Spurrell. WHEATON, Wilson Frederick -
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Wilson Wheaton announce his passing at the Lakeside Home, Gander on November 6, 2007. He was 84 years old. Predeceased by his parents, James and Ada Wheaton; son, Maxwell Clarence; brothers, Stanley, Harold, Raymond, Oswald; sister, Dorothy Bown and Hilda Kinden; son-in-law, Felix Sellars. Left to mourn son, Cordell Wheaton (Beverley) of Fredericton; daughter, Grace Sellars of Botwood; six grandchildren and a large circle of family and friends. Rev. Chris Andrew conducted the funeral service from the United Church, Frederickton on November 9th. Interment was at the United Church Cemetery, Frederickton. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Woolfrey's Funeral Home, Lewisporte. Pallbearers were Newman Wheaton, Harris Wheaton, Tom Bown, George Kinden, Harold Nippard and Rod Jackson. Passed away at Toronto on November 7, 2007, Derrick Leon Brown, age 42 years of Wareham. Predeceased by his father, Clarence; grandparents, Edgar and Virtue Hunt and Wilfred and Sybil Brown. MATCHIM, Deloris (nee Moss) -
Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, in her 95th year. Predeceased by her husband, Edgar in October 1963. Leaving to mourn three daughters, Kathleen (Calvin King), Maryann (Hector Hussey) and Barbara (Gary Keats); four sons, Ford (Marina), Dorman (Peggy), Walter (Jean) and Melvin (Lesley); 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral service took place November 15th at Holy Cross Anglican Church, Eastport. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery.

ORAM, Merina
(1947-2007) -
Merina Oram
of Gambo died November 13, 2007 with her loving family at her bedside. She met her battle with cancer with characteristic grace, dignity, patience and faith. Merina was cheerful and enjoyed serving others and raising her children which was her greatest joy. People loved her company and her home baked treats. Many people have enjoyed her beautiful quilts. Merina is survived by her husband, Randolph; her children, Tina and Todd; and grandchildren, Faith and Kyle; and is now with her late son, Billy. Arrangements are entrusted to her family.

WICKS, William Cator -
Passed peacefully away at Brookfield Hospital on November 13, 2007, William Cator Wicks, age 77 years of Wareham, NL. Predeceased by his parents, Robert and Janet and brother, Scott. ROBERTS, Doyle Clayton -
Originally of Grand Falls, passed peacefully away, November 13, 2007, age 77. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Joyce and precious daughter, Kathryn. Leaving to forever cherish his life with them are his daughters, Carol (John) and Nancy (Shane); son, Michael (Alana); sisters, Bernice (Gerald) and Barbara (Calvin); sisters-in-law, Shirley and Marie; and grandchildren, Kerstin, Heidi, John, Benjamin, Hayley, Zackary, Jennifer and Jacob who loved their “Gramps” beyond all earthly measure. LUSH, Leslie Dunfield -
Leslie Dunfield Lush
has gone to be with the Lord. His struggle to stay with us ended on November 14, 2007 at the age of 84, with his wife and youngest son by his side. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Nina and children, Nelson John (Debra), Ruth (Ray Swyers), Leslie Jr. (Barbara), Golda (Robert Rice), Paul (Patricia), Michelle (Sam Saunders) and brother, Frazer Short (Donna). Also 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, each of whom he loved and was very proud. As well as numerous nieces and nephews and many, many friends. Dad loved to meet new people and always found the good in everyone he met. His smile and laughter was infectious. He could stop time telling his stories and our sides would ache from laughter. He was a 5'2" giant of a man in our lives and we strive to be as loving a parent to our children as he always was to us. We are very proud to call him "Our Dad". His hope was that everyone he knew would come to know Jesus, the one he loved and served. The family extends its sincerest gratitude to the critical care staff of the James Paton Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion. Predeceased by her husband, Frederick Harris; sisters, Nellie (Stanley) Young, Pearl (Harold) Torraville, Maisie (Jasper) Vivian and Irene (Stewart) Harris. SMITH, Gerald Lloyd -
Passed peacefully away on November 26, 2007 at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Gerald Lloyd Smith (CBC Gerry) in his 64th year, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Predeceased by his parents Gerald and Jean Smith. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Stephanie (Peacock), daughter, Heather; sisters, Gillian Hatcher (Gary), Layle Karsgaard, Deborah Draycott; brother, Andrew (Mary); nieces, Suzanne (Chris), Angela; nephews, Jason (Stacey and Abby), Stephen and Thomas; special friend, Peter Blackie; also a large circle of relatives and friends. Gerry will also be missed by his dear pup “Nibs”. Our thanks go out to Drs. Button, Blackie and Bennett as well as the staff at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, all whom made his last days more comfortable. SAUNDERS, Roy R. -
Waverley, formerly of Gander, N.L., passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at the Halifax Infirmary. Son of Philip Stanley and Florence (Reid) Saunders. Roy was born in St. John's, NL. He joined the RAF in 1941 and served in the Second World War as a Wireless Operator ending his service as a tail gunner. Upon return to Newfoundland, Roy joined the airline industry followed by an accounting career. Roy was an avid gardener, traveler, collector of coins, stamps and classical music. His perfection and passion lay in the cast of the salmon line with expectation of hooking the largest fish in the river. Roy is survived by his daughter, Susan (Craig) Newhook, Waverley, NS; sons, Bill (Shirley) Saunders, Clearwater, Fl, John (Martina) Dartmouth, NS; sister, Grace Chaffey, Edmonton; grandchildren, Chris (Lori), Jill (Ray); great-grandson, Liam. Roy was predeceased by his wife, Joyce; brothers, Jack and George. A service has taken place. Donations in Roy's memory can be made to The Arthritis Society or a charity of one's choice.
