HICKS, Edgar -
Passed away at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Center in Botwood on Friday, October 2, 2009, Mr. Edgar Hicks of Musgrave Harbor, in his 86th year. Predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Rachael; daughter, Althea; and two sisters, Beatrice Mouland and Doris Hicks. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Gertie of 66 years residing at Lakeside Homes in Gander; two sons, Randy of Musgrave Harbor and Ross (Judith) of Musgrave Harbor; one sister, Blanche Garf of St. John's; three grandchildren, Hillary, Taylor and Daniel; and also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place on Monday, October 5th from the United Church in Musgrave Harbour. Interment followed from the United Church Cemetery in Musgrave Harbor with Rev. Harry Templeman officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to St. Luke's United church in Musgrave Harbor. BOWE, Douglas Joseph
December 26, 1931 - October 2, 2009

Born Goulds, Newfoundland. Passed peacefully away at home at the age of 77 years with family by his side. Son of Helen (Nellie) Bowe (nee Raymond) and Francis (Frank) Joseph Bowe, both of the Goulds, Newfoundland. Survived by sisters, Joan Gilchrist and Francis Peckford, both of Gander, Newfoundland, Helen Curwin of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Carmel Mader, Barbara Way and Pauline Bowe, all of Kitchener, Ontario; and brothers, Raymond Bowe of St. John's, Newfoundland and Daniel Bowe of Hanover, Ontario. Predeceased by brothers, Gerry Edward Bowe of Kitchener, Ontario and Donald Bowe of Gander, Newfoundland. Also survived by Sharron D. Bass and daughters, Chrystal Macdonald, Lynn Beninger, Cathy Deevey, Ann Bowe, Angelique Turene and sons, Douglas and Shawn and eight grandchildren. A private family service was held. TAYLOR, Caroline "Priscilla" -
Passed peacefully at home with her family by her side on Friday, October, 2, 2009. Beloved wife of Gary Taylor; loved mother to Kelly Taylor of Halifax, NS, Bruce Taylor (Tara) of Scarborough and Kristian Taylor of Trenton. Also remembered by siblings, Malcolm Pickett (Lillian), Rebecca Hewitt (Ron), late Silas Pickett (Emily), Robert Pickett (Jane), Lemuel Pickett, Jonas Pickett (Olive), Gerald Pickett (Mae), Stanley Pickett (Iris), Mildred Shewchuck (Rick), Rowena Sylvester, Bonnie Matthews (Eric), Seymor Pickett (Peggy); and loving grandmother to McKaila, Cole, Cody, and Nicholas. Predeceased by parents, Thomas and Margaret Pickett. A memorial service was held on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. (Christine Williams officiating). Passed away suddenly at his home in Gambo on Saturday, October 3, 2009, Lloyd Leslie Gilbert, aged 60 years. He was predeceased by his father, Arminius. BURT, Mona Nellie Blanche (1925-2009) -
When morning broke in Heaven on October 8, 2009, the heavenly realms were richer with Mona's arrival. Left with cherished and wonderful memoires of a 62 year marriage is her caring husband, Aubrey Burt of Gambo. Loving and devoted mother to Grace, Mary, Dennis, Donna and Bonita. Adored mother-in-law to Reg Pretty, Ivy Burt, Marvin Wells and Darrell Pelley. Special grandmother to Greg (Carol, Stephen (Gale) Heather (Neil), Sarah, Stephanie (Jason), Andre and Melanie. Honoured great-grandmother to (Baby) Jane Pretty. Fondly remembered by brother, Richard Burry (Jean); sisters, Eva Roberts (Nathan), Gladys Wheaton (Ross); sisters-in-law, Rose Burry, Brenda Bartlett (Ron); and brother-in-law, Herman Burt (Vina). Loved and tenderly cared for by her Home Care Workers, Millicent Cooze and Vicky Parsons. Her family and many friends will forever cherish special memories of Mona. Passed peacefully away at Lakeside Homes, Gander on October 9, 2009, Ethel Jane Hillier, age 93. FELTHAM, Donald -
Passed peacefully away on Sunday, October 11, 2009, R.N.C. S/Sgt. Donald Feltham (Ret.), age 71 years. Beloved husband and best friend to Joan for 50 years; devoted father to Deanne (Dean Shugarue) and Donald (Shelly); beloved grandfather to Spencer, Maggie, Emma Feltham, and Stephen Shugarue; dear brother to Dawson (Mary) and brother-in-law to Nellie Feltham and Joy and Ron Saunders. Also left to mourn are many special nephews and nieces. He will be greatly missed by many extended family members and friends. Passed peacefully away and entered the gates of Heaven on October 13, 2009. He leaves a legacy of fond and cherished memories to daughters, Gertie (James Pardy), Brenda (Barry Legge); sons, John (Joyce) and Marvin (Donna); and very special companion, Florence Lush; grandchildren, Duane (Michelle), Rhonda (Edmund), Dana (Kevin), Janna, Kristen (Terri-Lynn), Stephanie (Jason), Andre, Phillip (Jessica), Melanie, Brittany and Johnny will remember his love and devotion to them; great-grandfather to Melodie, Justin, Keenan, Rhiannan, Aaron, Caleb, Amelia, Jessie and Ben. He will be fondly remembered by sisters-in-law, Ruby and Lydia wells, Elizabeth Langdon, Shirley (Lou Lutz); brothers-in-law, Bill Willis (Rosalind), Reuben Willis (Eliza), Harry Willis (Marjorie). Robert Power
of Gander slipped quietly away with his wife, Marion and family members at his side on October 15, 2009. Predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Gladys Power and son, Desmond Power (2008). Also predeceased by his parents, Edward and Jane Power and brother, Thomas Power. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are his children, Ed (Dora) of Dartmouth, NS, Keith (Ellen) of Oshawa, ON, Karen (Bruce) of Perth, Australia, Kelly of Burnaby, BC; and Tina (Danny) Purcell of Gander, NL; daughter-in-law, Brenda Power, special brother, Norman Power; stepsons, Fergus (Rita); Gerard (Ann); stepdaughters, Margie (Joey); Karen (Billy); Yvonne (Alton); Leona (Colin) and their families; mother-in-law, Angela Parrott; brother, Kevin, sisters Lilian, Nora, Mary, Blanche and their families; grandchildren, Stephanie, Catherine, Chloe, Nathan and Emelyn; the Linehan family; and a large circle of family and friends. HUNT, Leonard -
Age 62 years, of Wareham (born Sydney Cove), Bonavista Bay. Passed away suddenly Friday, October 16, 2009. An active member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Indian Bay Parish, Leonard was a devoted Christian and was passionate about community development through his volunteer work with the Centreville-Wareham Trinity Recreation Commission. A carpenter by trade and a fisherman by choice, Leonard lived his life with a zest and fever admired by many and respected by all for his devotion to family, friends and enjoyment of life. Dedicated husband, father and grandfather, Leonard is survived by loving wife, Elsie (nee Bourne), son, Tony (Lisa) of Pickering, ON and daughter, Cindy (Scott Andrews) of Mt. Pearl, and his cherished grandchildren, Shaelyn Hunt, Hayley and Lucas Andrews. HUNT, Eli -
The family of Eli Hunt are saddened to announce that their father passed away at Lakeside Homes in Gander on October 19, 2009 following a lengthy illness. He was 87 years old. He is predeceased by his wife, Myrtle; son, Robert; grandson, Noel; four sisters, Jane, Josephine, Elizabeth and Annie; five brothers, Wilfred, James, Israel, Charles and Manuel. Eli left with fond memories, two daughters and two sons, Linda (Raymond) Goulding, Tony (June), Wilson (Alice) and Bernice (Ralph Pritchett); his sister, Mary Brown; and lifelong friend, Lionel Wicks. Eli was also a loving grandfather to Rhonda, Genine, Koren, April, Michael, Becky, Sherri Lynn, Charles, Erin, Ashley, Stephanie and Riley and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Pritchett's funeral Home in Gambo. Funeral service was held at Emmanuel United Church, Gambo on Wednesday, October 21st with internment following at the United Church Cemetery.

STARKES, Sterling Dafoe -
After a courageous battle with cancer, Sterling passed away, age 60, in Ottawa on October 19th, 2009, with his family at his side. He was son of the late Samuel and Janet (Welcher) Starkes, and grew up in Musgravetown. Sterling treasured 36 years of marriage with his beloved wife Sharon (Hancock) Starkes. A devoted husband and father, Sterling raised his family in Gander. Cherished father to Janet Starkes Fowler (David) and Trevor Sterling Starkes (Jill); proud grandfather to Lauryn and Kate Fowler and Ellis Sterling Starkes, all living in Ottawa. Dear brother of Anne Hancock, Dulcie (Merl) Feltham, Kathy (Geoff) Muggridge, all living in Newfoundland, and Wayne (Rosalynn) Starkes of Calgary. He was predeceased by his sisters, Effie Dafoe, Lizzie Starkes, Phyllis Philpott and Betty Wiseman (survived by Bill). Sterling will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He retired to the Ottawa area in 1998 where he enjoyed golfing and spending time with his grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, October 23rd at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, Perth On. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bruce, age 80 years, of St. John's and Glovertown, at St. Clares in the presence of his loving family. Predeceased by his parents, Henry and Edith (Carter) Clark and brother, David. He leaves to mourn Winnifred (Genge), his wife of 58 years and eight children, Linda (Jeff) Babstock, David (Patricia), Patricia (Wayne) Lucas, Elaine (Randy) Fradsham, Barbara (Dan) Moyst, Gail (Paul) Hatcher, and Trevor (Tish) - all in St. John's, and Ron (Mavis) Calgary, Alberta. Also leaving eighteen grandchildren, Jay, Jennifer and Jeremy Babstock, Jonathon and Bradley Clark; Stacey, Kelly and Janet Lucas, Krista and Jody Fradsham, Angela and Sarah Moyst, Megan and Lauren Clark, Katherine and Leah Hatcher, and Emily and Matthew Clark; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Lucas and Isabella Babstock. He leaves behind seven brothers, Fraser (Joan), Don (Marjorie), John (Lorraine), Peter (Bonnie), Carter (Betty) in Alberta, Robin (Sandy) and Paul (Patricia) and two sisters, Elizabeth (John) Cochrane in Ontario and Edith (Charles) Phillips. Leaving to mourn also brothers-in-law, Norman (Joyce) Genge, Glovertown, Melvin (Sharon) Genge, Saskatchewan, Roland (Karolyn) Geange, Nova Scotia; and sisters-in-law, June (Garth) Brown, Alberta, Maude Genge, Glovertown, and Marjorie (Elmore) Tulk, Aspen Cove. Funeral took Place on Saturday, October 31st from Faith United Church, Glovertown. Interment followed in the United Church Cemetery, Glovertown. Passed peacefully away at Brookfield Hospital on Thursday, October 29, 2009, Anastatia Matthews, age 82 years of Wareham. Predeceased by her husband, Malcolm; parents, Job and Maggie Rogers; brother, John; sisters, Rhoda and Eva. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her sons, Absalom (Margaret) of Toronto, Malcolm (Annie) of Wareham, John (Neta) of Centreville, Gary (Shirley) of Toronto, Peter (Susan) of Wareham, Jesse (Sheila) of Toronto, Job of Toronto; daughters, Charlotte (Rex) of Greenspond, Blanche (Melvin) of Wareham, Priscilla (Manuel) of Cape Freels, Lillian (Nathan) of Badger's Quay, Rose (Stanley) of Hare Bay, Maggie (Clayton) of Trinity, Millie (Percy) of Wareham, Sheila of Toronto; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and many friends. Funeral service took place at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Wareham on Monday, November 2nd, 2009 with Rev. D. Coffin officiating. Interment followed at The Anglican Cemetery, Wareham.
