ABBOTT, Alfreda - Passed peacefully away at the Ocean Side Manor, Musgrave Harbour on March 7, 1998, Mrs. Alfreda Abbott of Musgrave Harbour, in her 79th year. Predeceased by her granddaughter Roseann Mouland; sister Flossie West; and brother Wesley Stratton. Left with fond and loving memories are husband William; sons: Harvey and Anna, Musgravetown, Wesley and Joan, Musgrave Harbour, Bill and Sheila, Musgrave Harbour; daughters: Barbara and Harold Mouland, Musgrave Harbour, Gaye and Tom Skiffington, Paradise, Cynthia and Wilson Goodyear, Gander, Margarete and Gerald Ludee of Acton, Ont. and Eileen and Randy Moss, Mount Pearl; one brother Baxter Stratton, Badger`s Quay; two sisters: Ina and Roland Abbott, Musgrave Harbour and Shirley and Bert Chaulk, Ladle Cove; 20 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Leaving to mourn eight sons: Thomas (Gertie), Traytown; George, Bill (Vera), Lewis, Sandy (Ruth), Clayton (Anne), all of Princeton; Gerald (Gladys) of Musgravetown; Chesley (Sharon) of Toronto; four daughters: Elizabeth, Glovertown; Gladys (Hanuel), Lethbridge; Rita, Halifax; and Joyce, Princeton; twenty-seven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren. Resting at Faith United Church, Princeton. Funeral Service conducted by Rev. Penny December 15 at 2 p.m. Interment at the United Church Cemetery, Princeton.

ASH, Sarah (Noel) - Passed peacefully away at the Hoyles-Escasoni Complex, St. John`s, in the presence of her loving family, on Saturday, May 23, 1998, Sarah Ash of Portland, Bonavista Bay, aged 95 years. Predeceased by her husband Gilbert and grandchildren David and Ronnie. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are three sons Hedley (Ethel), Millertown; William (Anne), Portland and John (special friend Doris), Portland; six daughters Millicent (Alex Andrews), Portugal Cove; Emma (Eden Dyer), Fielding, NB; Gladys (Ron Oates), Fermeuse; Margaret St. Croix, Goose Bay; Ruby (Albert Schwab), Whitby, ON and Verda (Fred Greening), Musgravetown; two brothers Herbert, St. Anthony and Thomas (Maria), St. Anthony; sister-in-law Maude Noel, St. John`s; twenty-seven grandchildren; fifty-one great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. BAIRD, Mary - Passed peacefully away on September 4th at home in Traytown, Bonavista Bay in her eighty-second year. Mary, wife of Edgar Baird, mother of William (Jane Pickersgill), Jane, John, and Mary (Mickey); sister of Jane Domville, Victoria, B.C.; grandmother of Tom and Alan Baird. Mary (Snartt) was Secretary to the Newfoundland High Commissioner in London at 58 Victoria Street from 1938-1945. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be at the Anglican Church, Glovertown on Tuesday, September 8th at 11 a.m.

BEST, Lily Louise - Corner Brook, NF. Departed this life on Sunday, November 29, 1998 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook, aged 67 years. Predeceased by her brother William Norris; and parents: Jobez and Jane Norris. Visitation will take place from Fillatre`s Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Monday from the hours of 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, December 1st, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. from Humber United Church with Rev. Clayton Parsons officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. He leaves to mourn three daughters: Pearl Clair, Hamilton, Ont., Marilyn (Dan) Dutot, Port-Aux-Basques, Christine (Danny) Carter, Fort-St. John, B.C.; three sons: Hubert (Dianne), St. John`s, Tom (Nola), Port-Aux-Basques, Gary (Gail), Fort-St. John, B.C.; one brother Rev. Dr. Arthur S. Butt (Elsie), Glovertown; ten grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. HARTY, Annie F. - Formerly of Duntara, Bonavista Bay. Aged 84 years. Passed peacefully away at the Blue Crest Nursing Home, Grand Banks, NF on Saturday, August 22, 1998 following a lengthy illness. She is predeceased by her husband, Bernard, in 1966. Also predeceased by brothers: Michael, Ambrose and Augustine; as well as sisters: Lucy, Mary and Sarah. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are son Michael (wife Madge), Paradise, son Martin (wife Ann), Goulds and son Bernard (wife Jean), Marystown; granddaughters: Sheri-lyn and Amy; and grandsons: David (wife Kim), Jay, Lee, Matthew and Michael. Also mourning her loss are sisters: Dorothy (husband Alphonsus Devereaux), Gander, Bernetta (husband Alphonsus Gallahue), Gander and Theresa Maloney, Mount Pearl. Lovingly remembered by her husband Patrick; daughters: Teresa and Wayne Toope and grandchildren Darlene and Stuart; Ellen and Dolph Abbott and granddaughter Meagan; Mary Barker; Eileen Pardy and granddaughters Renee and Kayla; special niece Pauline Hollohan; also a circle of relatives and friends. HOUSE, Thomas A. (Tom) - Passed away in Duncan, British Columbia, on May 14, 1998. Born in Bonavista, Newfoundland in 1914, he was the son of the late Frederick and Ethel (Noseworthy) House. Tom was a Certified General Accountant in British Columbia, making his home in Duncan nearly 40 years ago, but all the while keeping up-to-date on happenings in his much-loved home province of Newfoundland. Tom is survived by his wife, Helene, in Duncan, and his sister, Ann (House) Andrews, in St. John`s, as well as by several nieces and nephews. Cremation took place in Duncan, and a memorial service was held there on May 21, 1998.

HUNT, Joseph - Passed peacefully away on April 12, 1998 at Bonnews Lodge, Badger`s Quay, age 93 years. Predeceased by parents Jesse and Elizabeth Hunt; sisters: Emma, Sarah, Sophie, Emma and Carrie; brothers: Charles, Regmen, Pearce, Edmund and Alphaeus; daughter Carrie; sons: Jesse and Gordon; and grandson Cornelius. Leaving to remember him with fond and loving memories are devoted wife Emma, Valleyfield; daughters: Sadie (Robert) Bown, Glovertown, Violet, Scarborough, Ontario and Maisie, St. John`s; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sister Neta (William) Best, Glovertown; brother Alfred (Alice), Peterborough, Ontario; sisters-in-law: Maggie Hunt, St. John`s and Alberta Hunt, Maine; also a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Service was held on April 14th at Grace Pentecostal Church, Valleyfield, with Pastor M. Pittman officiating. Interment took place at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Valleyfield. Originally from Harry`s Harbour, Bill relocated with his family in 1992 from Summerville to Burnaby, B.C. WOODROW, Mary (nee Ryan) - Passed peacefully away at St. Luke`s Home on Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, Mary Woodrow (nee Ryan) in her 81st year. Predeceased by her husband, John, 1993, and brother John, 1985. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, sons: Pat and Raymond (Lois), St. John`s; daughters: Ann Marie, Bernadette Arsenault (Guy), Nova Scotia; darling granddaughters: Lisa and Jennifer; brother: Anthony (Mary); sisters: Kathleen Watson (Alex), Gertrude Tracey, Marie Maloney (William) and a large circle of relatives and friends. Remains resting at Holy Family Church, Southern Bay, Bonavista Bay, Oct. 17, 1998 and Caul`s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, Sunday, Oct. 18, 1998, from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Funeral mass on Monday, Oct. 19, 1998 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Teresa`s Church. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Flowers gratefully accepted or donations to the Right to Life, St. Teresa`s Church or St. Luke`s Homes. Eternal Rest Grant Unto Her O Lord. (Clyde), Ethel Austin, Shirley Larkin, Charlie Cook (Una); Brother-in-law Edmund Small (Sarah); Sisters-in-law Nellie Small, Stella Small, and other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell`s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Visitation on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass on Monday, October 19, 1998 at 9:45 a.m. from St. Pius X Parish. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one`s choice.
