Burin Peninsula Obituaries

The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour. All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

BANFIELD, BLANCHE LORENZEN
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Blanche Lorenzen Banfield at her home in Louisbourg on August 24, 2017. Born November 20, 1921 in Garnish, Newfoundland, she was a daughter to the late George Banfield and Annie Eliza (Grandy) Banfield. She is survived by nephews Steven (Linda) and Bryan Banfield of Montreal and very special niece Marlene Plerschmann (Hans) of Eldorado, Ontario. Also left to mourn are friends Hughie Beavers; Patsy and Aubrey Harris; Jim and Joan MacQuarrie, as well as all her friends in Newfoundland, and all the good people of Louisbourg. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by brothers William and Melvin; sister Effie West, friends Sadie Skinner and Mary Beaver, and two beautiful cats. Visitation will take place today, August 25th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the First United Church, 3 Upper Warren Street in Louisbourg. Memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m., with minister Alex McGregor officiating. DEAN, A. SELENA
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of A. Selena Dean of Fredericton, NB, formerly of Burin, Newfoundland. She passed away in Fredericton on August 24, 2017. Born in Jacques Fontaine, NFLD, she was the wife of the late George Dean and daughter of the late Abraham and Mary Johnson. Selena is survived by her two sons, Gary (Alicia) and Daryl (Lynne); grandchildren, Jamie Johansen, Emily and James Dean; sisters, Patricia Tessier (Gaetan) and Mary Bungay (Don); brothers, Charlie (Judy), Frank (Marion), Abraham (Wanda), and Dave Johnson; special cousin, Margaret Rose; special aunt, Mary Brushett; special friend, Alphonse Sweeney; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her son, James, and infant brother and sister, Stanley and Laura. There will no be visitation by request. A celebration of Selena's life will take place at St. Margaret's Anglican Church on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 2:00pm with Rev. Rick Robinson officiating. Passed peacefully away at Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, Burin, NL, on Sunday, August 6, 2017, CALVIN DURNFORD of Creston South, NL, in his 74th year. It is with great sadness that the family of the late ALLAN FREDERICK EDWARDS of Lord's Cove announces his peaceful passing at U.S. Memorial Health Care Centre in St. Lawrence on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at the age of 85. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his sisters Sheila Slaney, Ann Murray (Gerard) and Mary King (George), brothers Aubrey Edwards, Maurice Edwards, Harry Edwards, Eric Edwards (Dianne), and Leslie Edwards, and a large number of nieces and nephews. December 11, 1944 - August 23, 2017

Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 age 72. Predeceased by his mother Bella, and brother Kevin Left to mourn with loving memories is his wife Dorothy; 5 step children; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; special niece Carol Anne, three nephews and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his son, Keith; parents, Margaret & Frederick Walsh; sisters, Shirley Brenton & Emily Kettle; and brother, Joe Walsh. The Walsh Family will be accepting visitors at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in St. Lawrence on Wednesday, August 2nd, beginning at 3:00 p.m.; and Thursday, August 3rd, All Day; from where the Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Cecilia Roman Catholic Cemetery in St. Lawrence.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late PATRICK J. WHITTLE of St. Bernard's announces his passing at the Health Science Centre in St. John's on Friday, August 4, 2017, at the age of 75. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are wife Judy of 45 years; sons, Patrick (Sherisse) of Mount Pearl, Jeremy (Karen) of St. John's, Mark (Patricia) of St. Bernard's, and Josh (Amanda) of Marystown; daughter, Trudy (Jim) Upshall of Baine Harbour; 9 grandchildren, Simon, Brooklyn, Logan, Bridget, Grayson, Thomas, Emily, Lily, and Caleb; sisters, Lucy (Dago) Weise of ON, Margaret Brasser of ON, and Ann Marie (Charlie) Hackett of St. Bernard's; brothers, Lorne (Francis) of St. Bernard's, Gordon (Theresa) of Bay L'Argent, and Thomas (Sharon) of Jacques Fontaine; brother-in-law, Baxter Thornhill of Little Bay East; plus a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter & Kathleen Whittle, and sister Clara Thornhill. The Whittle Family will be accepting visitors at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in St. Bernard's on Sunday, August 6th, beginning at 2:00 p.m.; and Monday, August 7th, all day; from where the Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, August 8th, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery in St. Bernard's.
