NIERGARTH, Minnie
Our dear Aunt Minnie Niergarth passed away peacefully on August 23, 2023, in her 90th year, in the U.S. Memorial Long Term Care Facility in St Lawrence, where she spent the last couple of years of her beautiful life. Aunt Minnie was born in Corner Brook to Sam and Clara (nee Boone) Rowsell of Leading Tickles and Cottrell's Cove respectively. As she was born prematurely, her loving mother worked tirelessly to ensure her survival. But as the years went on, it became evident that Aunt Minnie would become the strong one in our family. A very special day for Aunt Minnie was July 4th, 1966, the day she was married to her beloved husband, Harold Niergarth.
Aunt Minnie has always cared for others before herself. She faithfully cared for her mother when she was unwell, right up until her death, even moving herself and Harold into her mother's home to do so. At the same time, as her sister Shirley's health declined, Aunt Minnie took into her care her two nephews, George and Luis and her niece Vanessa. She selflessly and lovingly raised them as her own. As Minnie herself began aging, she cared for her ailing husband at home right up until his death. And she would not have it any other way.
Our Aunt Minnie was a beloved member of the Corner Brook Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, who became so close they were like a family to her. She was actually one of the very first individuals to be baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in Corner Brook. She was known for her loving hospitality, her faithful visits to older members of the congregation, and her determination to share her bright hope for a future Paradise earth with others, even as her own health began to deteriorate. Aunt Minnie was always up for a meal and a good laugh. She became everyone's "Aunt Minnie", dearly loved and cherished by all who knew her. In her later years, it gradually became Aunt Minnie's turn to receive the kind of care that she had dedicated her life to giving to others. So, in March of 2020, she went to live with her nephew Luis and his wife Heather on the Burin Peninsula. They faithfully cared for her every need as her dementia gradually stole more and more of her cherished memories. But even at that time, she could have a good hearty laugh, singing and joking with the ones she loved, reminiscing over old photographs that never left her side. At that time, she became a dear member of the Marystown Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses who all knew her as "Aunt Minnie". They lovingly provided any assistance they could as her health declined. Our dear Aunt Minnie is leaving to mourn George Arce (children Victoria and Robert) of British Columbia, Luis (Heather) Arce of Burin and Vanessa Vance (children Sam and Maddy) of Ontario. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband Harold Niergarth of Ontario, her dear parents Sam and Clara Rowsell of Leading Tickles and Cottrell's Cove, and her much loved younger sister, Shirley Arce of Ontario. "For God is not unrighteous so as to forget your work and the love you showed for his name by ministering and continuing to minister to the holy ones." - Hebrews 6:10 (New World Translation) "He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." - Revelation 21:4 (New World Translation) A Memorial Service for Aunt Minnie will take place at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Corner Brook on Wednesday, August 30th, 2023 at 7:00 pm. (Zoom link: Meeting ID - 680 333 2851 and Password - 971298). Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Wiseman's Funeral Homes - Burin. "Our Family Serving Your Family" www.wisemansfh.ca
