A hard-working man all of his life, he was never one to leave any task undone. Never looked for priaise or was one to boast, just went on working for those he loved and was committed to. His dreams were seldom spoken and his wants were very few and most times his worries would go unspoken too. He loved his family and the simpler things in life, especially the great outdoors. Whether it was off on the hills or just turning over the hay in the meadow or maybe tending to the cattle or feeling the heat of sun on the back of his neck and a warm summer breeze. This is who he was. He was always there, the firm foundation through all the storms of life, and he himself weathered many hardships throughout his lifetime but he dwelled on nothing and perservered through everything. His home was where his heart was and his family was everything. Our hearts are truly broken to lose him and he will surely be missed by us all. While following the current COVID 19 restrictions The Edwards Family will be accepting visitors at their family home in Lawn on a date and time to be announced. Her family and friends were very dear to her and there was always a cup of tea and lunch when visiting! Mom had a passion for quilting, sewing, knitting and cross- stitching. Mom was a member of Bridges Employment Corporation and served so many years as President. She was also active in the Grand Bank / Fortune Food Bank! Mom's faith was amazing and throughout her whole ordeal she never lost her faith! She was very active in her church and was a member of the choir for many years! Mom's faith has never faltered! Although she has been waiting 12 months to get her heart surgery, she never complained! She always said, "There's someone who needs it more than me" or "When God is ready for me he'll take me!" And although she may have been ready long before now, her faith was proven to be true! God called her home when he saw she had enough and he was ready for her!

WALSH, BEATON
With broken hearts we say goodbye to Dr. Beaton Walsh, (PhD, PsyD), who passed away suddenly on February 24, 2022 at Health Science Centre, St. John's, NL, at the age of 62. Beaton will be remembered and live on forever in the hearts of his loved ones including his wife of 36 years Debbie; his daughters Chloe (Nick) and Cailey (Andrew); his brothers Frank (Gladys), Bart (Beth), Wayne (Linda), Luke Jr. and Brian; his sisters Geraldine, Theresa (Pat), Marilyn and Mary, sister in law Adele; parents in law Arch and Lillian Dober, brothers in law Rick, Glen (Nikki), and Johnny (Christina); sisters in law Trish (Brendan) and Lisa as well as his many nieces and nephews. Growing up, Beaton was actively involved in sports like soccer and hockey. He spoke often about his memories living in university residence, Bowater, a legacy he passed down to his girls. Beaton loved tradition. He loved history. He loved learning. Beaton loved life and seized every single second of it, in a way that we can all learn from. Beaton will be remembered for his steadfast commitment and many contributions to the fields of psychology and education. He dedicated his life to the service of others, often acting as a mentor or advocate for those who did not have a voice. Beaton made friends with virtually everyone he met and his family often joked that they couldn't go out in public without being stopped once or twice with people saying hi to him. Beaton loved and valued his family more than anything else in the world. His close bond with his parents, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, served the basis of many fun nights in the shed playing darts and drinking Guinness.
His wife, Debbie, was his best friend and together they created a beautiful family with their daughters Chloe and Cailey. As a family they loved spending time together. Whether it was travelling, watching British detective shows, or listening to their favourite music, Beaton was happiest when "the band" was back together. Beaton did a lot of things well, but the role he was most proud of was "dad". Beaton committed his life to making sure his girls were loved, protected and cared for every single day. He could always be found with a camera or video recorder in hand, making sure to document all the moments, big and small. He would stop at nothing to make his girls' dreams come true, and he did just that. This love often extended to Chloe and Cailey's friends. He will be remembered fondly as a "second dad" to many, serving as the resident confidante, advice giver and soccer coach. Beaton had a way of bringing light and laughter to the toughest of situations. He would go to great lengths to make those in his life smile. His library of "Beaton-jokes" and Movie/TV references seemed to never end. In that spirit, Beaton will live on forever in the stories, jokes and laughter of his loved ones. He always said, grief is the price we pay for loving. Beaton loved unconditionally and was loved immensely in return, and our grief will reflect that.
We are comforted with the fact that he is reunited with predeceased parents, Luke and Mary; brothers, Arch and Gerard; sister, Bernadette; brothers-in-law, Alphonsus Drake & Bernard Hodder; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Walsh & Jeanette Walsh, niece Lori, and nephews Arch Jr. and Barry, and best buddy Barney. WOODLAND, Lucy Patten (Hickman)
April 26, 1917 - February 16, 2022

Promoted to Glory on Wednesday, February 16, 2022! Lucy Patten (Hickman) Woodland passed away peacefully at the Glenbrook Lodge, St. John's, in the presence of her family, at the age of 104. A long life, well lived! Born in Grand Bank, Newfoundland on April 26, 1917 to Mary Anne and Charles Hickman, Lucy was the youngest of five children. In 1936 Lucy travelled on the passenger and freight ferry, SS Sagona, from Grand Bank to St. John's to "take" her grade 11 and go to Summer school to get a teaching certificate. Lucy's teaching career spanned 40 years, beginning in September 1937 on Change Islands and finishing in St.John's in 1977. In 1938 Lucy taught at Hickman's Harbour, Random Island. Lucy returned to St. John's in 1939 and taught at the Salvation Army College, Springdale Street for two years. In 1941 she took a teaching position in Grand Bank where she met the new school principal, Gordon Woodland. Lucy and Gordon were married on June 24, 1943. They had two children, Keith and Rhodie Anne. Lucy was blessed with a long and healthy life. A Salvationist and a woman of strong faith, Lucy was a faithful member of the Home League (Women's Ministries) and other Corps activities. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, board games, word puzzles, brain teasers and Sudoku. Lucy loved to play Rook. Her passion for sports started as a child in Grand Bank where she jumped fences and played "whatever was on the go". In retirement Lucy was an avid traveller. She lived independently until 2013 when she moved to Glenbrook Lodge. There she participated in all outings, especially the shopping trips, recreation and craft activities. Lucy so enjoyed the Chapel services. Left with fond and loving memories are her children, Keith Woodland and Rhodie Anne Woodland; her sisters-in-law, Rhoda Reid (Stan, deceased) and Edith Woodland; her nieces, Major Anne Noseworthy (Hayward, deceased), Georgie Rowsell (Max), Rose Blagdon (Bill) and Doris Witherall; and her nephews, Clarence Forsey, Fred Witherall (Mabel), Maurice Witherall (Beatrice) and Gordon Witherall (Emily, deceased). Lucy is also lovingly remembered by generations of other nieces and nephews and a large circle of family and friends. Predeceased by her husband, Gordon J. Woodland (1917-1977); her parents, Mary Anne (1881-1955) and Charles Hickman (1881-1917); her siblings, Alice (Jos Forsey), Clarence Hickman (Carrie), Bella Hickman and Edith-May (Frank Witherall); her nephews, Charlie Forsey (Ernie) and Max Witherall; Gordon's parents, Majors Charles and Sarah Woodland; Gordon's siblings, Wilmore (Maria), Bruce, Major Alma, Cora and Renee Woodland. Thank you to the retired and current Glenbrook Lodge team of nursing staff and support services as well as the interdisciplinary teams who made Mom's time at the Glenbrook Lodge so enjoyable. A special note of thanks to the Chaplains at Glenbrook Lodge who comforted Mom in her time of need. Your consideration and generosity will never be forgotten. Visitation will take place at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John's on Saturday, February 19 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. A Service to celebrate Lucy's life will take place at 3:00 p.m. Sunday February 20 at The Salvation Army St. John's Temple, Torbay Road. To attend this Service in person, Vaccination Passports and masks are required. The Service will also be live-streamed on the Salvation Army St. John's Temple Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SAStJohnsTemple/). Interment to follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Blackmarsh Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lucy's memory may be made to either the Salvation Army St. John's Temple Youth Ministries, P.O. Box 21060, 101 Torbay Rd. St. John's, A1A 5B2 or to the Salvation Army St. John's Food Bank, c/o The Salvation Army Ches Penney Centre of Hope at 18 Springdale Street, St. John's, A1E 2R1.
But until then my heart will go on singing,
Until then with joy I'll carry on,
Until the day my eyes behold the city,
Until the day God calls me home.
