HILLIER, Aubrey
March 22, 1950 - March 20, 2023

It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Aubrey Hillier of Point au Gaul announces his passing. Aubrey passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin on Monday, March 20th, 2023, at the age of 72. Predeceased by his parents Edgar and Louisa Hillier and sisters, Elsie (Norman) and Doris (Cecil). Aug leaves to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories his wife of 53years, Beth and his daughters Marlene (Ross) and Sherry (Kenneth); his 3 grandchildren, Carter, Colby and Hayley, who were his pride and joy; his brother, Howard (Bernice) who he loved dearly, his nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart, especially nephew Trevor, and nieces Cindy and Michelle. Aub had a large circle of family and friends, most of them have many special and funny memories but we would be remiss if we didn't say he will be sadly missed by his buddies Rich, Bradley, Lil and George. Aub was a hard working, generous man. From a young age he went away to work and spent many months away from his family. He worked years with Seafarers International on the Great Lakes, worked 13 years on the tugs servicing the oil industry and spent the last of his career in the North on tug and barge bringing supplies to Northern Communities. After retirement he fished with anyone who needed an extra man. He truly loved the sea. On his months home from work, he made his home a welcoming place for his friends and family to gather and hosted more than one party in his time. He had friends from all ages ranging from 18 to 80 and was known by so many. He was generous to a fault and had no problem helping his friends with money or pitching in to help with any project they had going on. Anyone who knew Aub knew he loved his Toronto Maple Leafs (even if they continually broke his heart). He was loved beyond measure by his family and friends and was always there to lend a hand. He loved spending time with his family, and while he certainly didn't love St. John's he never missed an opportunity to go visit his family. He spent lots of weekends with his daughters at Jack's Pond and loved to spend time there. From the annual lobster weekend he provided for, to listening to his buddy Bill sing a few songs, to blueberry picking, he loved those weekends. We could write a book with funny stories about him and his friends could provide many chapters. When he loved you, he did it with his whole heart. In keeping with Aub's wishes, cremation has taken place. Aub will be resting at St. Mary's Anglican Church in Lamaline Friday, March 24th, 2023 from 12:00 noon to 4:00pm, followed by a Family Service beginning at 7:00pm. Predeceased by his father, George Lockyer; grandparents, Don & Dorothy Coady and Joseph & Bridget Lockyer; grandmother-in-law, Laura Etchegary and many other dear family and friends who were waiting to welcome him with open arms. Left with shattered hearts are his wife, Vicki of 26 years; mother, Bridget Lockyer; mother-in-law, Madonna Etchegary; brothers, George (Becky), Gerard (Rose), John (Janette), Clem (Trudy) and Ambrose (Marita); sisters, Anita (Russell) and Sandra (Cliff); sister-in-law, Natasha Riddiford (Bruce & family); brother-in-law, Corey Callahan (Tracy & family). Gabe was a loving uncle who has also left with broken hearts his nieces, Trudy (Colin), Ashley (Doug), Carissa (Preston), Alicia (Courtney), Crystal (Tristan) and Shante (Tyler); nephews, Francis - his special godson (Cathy), Justin (Ashley), Steven (Brandon), Travis (Samantha), Shane(Laura), Jason (Kerri-Lynn), Bradley, Shawn (Cheyenne) Tyrell & families; his great nieces and nephews whom he adored and loved watching grow, both in number and size, Tristan, Matthew, Cayden, Codey, Dean, Sam, David, Tommy, Isabella, Noah, Londyn, Connor, Avery, Leah, Liam, Shea, Haven and August. Also left missing him are his furry children, Lippy, Nik & especially Ned who was his shadow. He was the world's best dad even if all his children had paws. Gabe was a friend to all and greeted everyone with a smile. He had many, many friends in Point Au Gaul where he grew up and in St. Lawrence, his home for the past 27 years. Especially lost without him are Derek & Sherry, Brian & Laurie, and his dear buddy Gene. He was the neighbourhood care taker and he will be truly missed by all the family and friends living close by who he was always so willing to do anything for. His darling Aunts, dear uncles and beloved cousins on the Coady & Lockyer sides are too numerous to name individually but each and everyone feel his loss tremendously as Gabe was so family oriented. It truly meant everything to him. He was loved by all. His large family of In-laws on the Etchegary side also share their grief as he was a welcomed and loved part of the family and he was always there for all of them at anytime. Gabe was a hard working man and his friends and co-workers at OCI will miss his huge grin especially when showing off his butchering skills telling them to "Heave on'er!" He was a large part of the community and he was always involved in fundraising and events in St. Lawrence for numerous groups and causes, whether he volunteered or was volun-told by Vicki he would happily do whatever was asked with that big smile and "yes my honey whatever you need" attitude. He was simply golden-hearted and kind, gentle and giving and so loving of everyone he met. He would make a stranger a friend in moments, wherever he went. In honouring his wishes, cremation will take place. The Lockyer Family will be accepting visitors at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, St. Lawrence on Thursday, March 23rd from 12noon - 8pm.
