It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Hartson of Salt Pond announces her passing on October 20th, 2022 at the age of 79 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband James of 58 years. Children Jerry (Cindi) of Lewin's Cove, Cindy (Harvey) of Lewin's Cove, Stewart (Angie) of Grand Prairie, Debbie of Salt Pond and Paul (Joanne) of Salt Pond; grandchildren Holly (Mike), Jamie (Sarah), Shannon (Jody), Jenelle (Cassy), Jillian (Tom), Brittany, Joshua, Gregory, Brianna (Jarrod), Jonathan (Alicia), Dylan (Miya) and Paula (James); great grandchildren Dane, Livia, Shae and Cooper; siblings Joanne (John), Manuel (Marie) and Terry (Ferne) plus a large circle of nieces and nephews and of other family and friends. Predeceased by father Archibald Locke and mother Bertha Cox; stepfather Philip Cox; sister Emma Brady; mother-in-law Mary Hartson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Daphne and Arch Hiscock and brother-in-law Bill Hartson; grandchild September Inkpen and great grandchild Harper Rose Brown. To know her was to love her. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Mary was born in Corner Brook as a young girl moved to Grand Bank where she met the love of her life. Jim had to find rides over to see her and then that was the start of a beautiful marriage of 58 years. They had 5 beautiful children who blessed them with 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren which Mary was so very proud of and loved them unconditionally. Mary worked in the school cafeteria for 24 years and she never saw a child go hungry. She loved what she did and cooking was one of her many ways of showing her love. Mary was always in the kitchen cooking everyone's favourites. Mary and Jim cooked together and fed their family, friends and neighbours and the best Sunday dinner could be found there. If she wasn't doing this you could find her at various bingo halls, playing darts, going to church or listening to music, out socializing or being a taxi driver carting her children to soccer fields and later her grandchildren wherever they needed to be. More recently she enjoyed dart competitions in the basement with Jim, TV Bingo, watching game shows and the Bachelorette and the best was the countless games of cards, oh how excited she would be when she won. The thing she didn't realize is her family were the winners when we got to have her. Her family was everything to her and she spent countless hours on the phone or watching out the window finding out where everyone was near and fare to make sure we were all safe, well and had something to eat. Mom and Dad were the chain that linked our family together and now we are missing a very special link that we will cherish forever. We will always remember her love, her smile, her wit and contagious laughter. Mary battled cancer 6 years ago and got a second chance at life and had to fight again. She was so brave and so strong and had the best care by her doctors, care team, her angel nurses Bill and Dave and her doctor Dr. Hartson. The family would like to thank numerous doctors, nurses, chemo team, and family who cared for her with utmost care. "To live in the hearts she left behind is never to die." Family will be accepting visitors on Saturday and Sunday , October 22 and 23 from 1PM to 9PM. Funeral Mass will take place from St. Patrick's Parish Church on Monday, October 24th at 10:30AM with cremation following.
