ANDERSON, Gilbert

Passed in: Louisbourg, Canada on: November 8th, 2013

It is with deep sadness, and broken hearts that we the family of Gilbert Anderson announce his sudden passing, at home, on Nov. 8, 2013. Born in Burgeo, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late William and Naomi Anderson. Gilbert is survived by his loving wife, Eileen (Baker); sister, Mildred (Victor); brother, Philip (Audrey); mother-in-law, Wilma Baker; brothers-in-law, Brent (Joanne), Charlie (Berniece) and Douglas Carter. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Piney and Hilda, and father-in-law, Philip Baker. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Nov. 13, 2013, at the First United Church, Louisbourg, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Emily Duggan officiating. Interment to follow in Willow Grove Cemetery. JOHNS, Cecilia Christina
(1923-2013)

90, Herring Cove, passed away peacefully November 18th, 2013 at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Celie was born in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland and came to Halifax in 1934. In her early years Celie worked for The Seagull Club and later years at Sears Canada. Celie was a very determined woman who wanted things done her way which she showed in her main career of maintaining a wonderful home for Vince. She loved entertaining and always welcomed company. Although Celie had no children of her own, her love of children was quite evident, caring for the Murphy girls, her nieces and nephews and special cousins. Celie enjoyed a good game of cards; she loved animals, her garden and just being in the company of Vince and others. She is survived by her loving husband, Vincent of 62 years, sisters, Ida O'Rourke, BC; Cressie Gagnon, ON; brother-in-law, Lionel (Shirley) Johns, Dartmouth and many nieces and nephews. Celie was predeceased by her mother, Bertha (Spearns) Handrigan father, Stansilaus Murray, step-father, Adolph Handrigan; brothers, Allan Murray, Patrick Murray, step-brother, Fred Turpin and Sister, Mary Munroe and Sister and brother-in-law, Joyce & Hudson Cleveland. Extreme thank you to Home Instead Senior Care for their genuine love and care, the staff on 8.4 QEII for all their care during Celie's short visit and final hours, and to all their friends and neighbours for all their prayers and help over the past few years. Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. As per Celie's request there will not be any visitation. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 10:30 AM in St. Peter & St. Paul Parish, Herring Cove, Father Alfred Eshun as Celebrant; interment to follow in Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Halifax. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of NS, the SPCA or a charity of your choice.


LAING, Donald 'Don'

Passed in: Rockdale, Canada on: November 18th, 2013

With great sadness we regret to announce the passing of our dearest husband and father, Don Curling Laing, at the age of 70 on Monday, November 18, 2013, in the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in Norris Point, N.L., he was a son of the late Walter Melbourne and Edith (Oates) Laing. Don is survived by his wife, best friend and soul mate of 49 years, Agnes (Walsh) Laing; his children, Christine (Joe) Bergen; Juanita (Adrian) Briand; Kevin (Tammy Carter) Laing; Dion (Corey) Laing and Marjorie Head; his grandchildren, Mark, Teresa (Clint), Marcus, Nolan, Daelin, Rory, Ryan, Tyler and Timothy. He is predeceased by his baby daughter, Myra; brother, Clarence and niece, Dana Bennett. He leaves behind brothers, Roy (Bessie); Melvin, Ivan, Ira (Marjorie); sisters, Vera (Wilson) Keates; Alice (Frank Oake) Laing; Irene (Laud) Pittman; Iris (Milton) Bennett; Dora (Koylie) Decker; Cora (William) Bennett; Jessie Laing; sister-in-law, Margaret Laing. He also leaves to mourn numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends, including his buddy, Cyril Sheppard. At Don's request cremation has taken place. The funeral service will be held from St. Alban's Anglican Church, Sally's Cove, N.L. at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com
