We are heartbroken to announce the sudden and tragic death of our beloved son, Warrant Officer (Ret'd.) John J. Cox, CD who died Nov. 3, 2021 in Nepean, ON. John was 46 years of age. Born in St. John's, NL. John leaves to mourn his Mom Charlotte MacLean Cox, Nepean, Father John J. Cox (Sandy), Oakville, Sister Tina MacLean (Joe), nephew and Godson Kayshaun, close friends, Bill and Jennifer Boyle, Goddaughter Amy-Lynn Boyle and Ron Landry. He also leaves to mourn Newfoundland Aunts Dorothy Chafe, Debbie Cox and uncles Robert (Linda) Cox and Terry Chafe, MacLean uncles of Sydney, N.S., Wendell (deceased), Danny (Rosey), Larry (Charlotte, deceased), David (Mary), Blaise (Colleen), George (Erin), as well as many cousins. John was the grandson of the late Bob and Theresa Cox of Mt. Pearl, NL, and the late Alfred and Violet MacLean of Sydney, N.S.

John was educated throughout Atlantic Canada prior to moving to Ontario where he graduated from White Oaks Secondary, and was also a graduate of Sheridan College. John began his military career as a reservist with the Lorne Scots Regiment, Oakville in 1993 prior to joining the CAF regular force in 1999. John served at a number of locations, and also did a tour of duty in Bosnia and two tours in Afghanistan. John was a dedicated soldier who loved his job and considered the military his other family. He was the recipient of multiple achievements, medals and commendations. He loved nature, animals and the outdoors along with an occasional good single malt scotch and cigar.

John's internment will take place in a graveside ceremony at Beechwood National Military Cemetery, Ottawa on Nov. 17 at 1 p.m., masks required. Reception to follow at Barrhaven Legion, Fallowfield Road. RSVP by text or voicemail to 613-299-4636 by Monday. Standard COVID-19 measures are in effect at the Legion. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's honour may be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation or Ottawa Humane Society. The family would like to thank the Ottawa Police Service, the personnel at CFS Leitrim and Beechwood Funeral Home.

FARRELL, Jean

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of well-known North Sydney resident, Jean Farrell. Jean was a beloved grandmother, mother, wife and sister during her incredible 86 years of life. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, surrounded by her loving family.

Jean had a long and full life. Born on May 1, 1935, in Flowers Cove, Newfoundland to two loving parents the late Thomas and Georgina (Chambers) Lawless. She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney. Jean was always the life of any family gathering. Laughter and smiles were common when she was around. She was selfless and put others first. She was an example to so many and a shining light to all who knew her.

In earlier years, Jean would enjoy their annual trips to Florida. In later years her enjoyment came from her children and grandchildren. The door was always open for everyone near and far. When you think of Jean, celebrate the good memories you have of her.

She will be missed more than words can express but always in our hearts. Jean is survived by her four children, Betty (Bryden) MacDougall, Antigonish; David (Virginia) Farrell, Stewiacke; Blair (Flor) Farrell, Ontario; Patricia Pero, Hammonds Plains; Grandchildren, Alexandra, Kayla, Sarah, Jessica, Chelsea, Jacob, Mora, Hunter, Mark, Maddy; siblings, Ed Lawless, Gerald (Mary) Lawless, Mary (Harry) Katrynuk, Linda (Daryl) Rendell, Renee (Mark) Romanowsky, Mick (Bonny) Lawless, Sue (Kenny) LeBlanc and Patricia Lawless. Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband, Milton Farrell, two infant grandchildren, Tanner and Derek and by sister, Susan Howley and two sisters in infancy.

A funeral service for Jean will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. COVID-19 restrictions will be in place with proof of vaccination, NS Photo ID and the wearing of masks. A reception will follow at the North Sydney Fireman's Club, Pierce Street, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. HAWCO (McKenna), Anne

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Anne (McKenna) Hawco. Anne passed away peacefully at home on 11 November 2021, surrounded by friends and her loving family. Anne is survived by her husband, Elmo Hawco; son, Craig (Lisa), along with two grandsons, Tiernan and Fionn. Anne is also survived by her stepchildren: Jim (Deb), Dave (Laura), Allen (Dodie) and Julie. Anne will be missed by her siblings, Gerald (Catherine), James (Alice), Sean, Maureen (Leo), Betty, and Sonya (Barry), all from Newfoundland as well as Marguerite (Brian) of Alberta. Anne was predeceased by her parents, Brendon and Margaret; sisters, Patsy and Sheila, and stepson, Tom. Anne was employed with the CIBC for many years working from coast to coast to coast. A celebration of life will take place for family and friends at a future date in Newfoundland. Cremation has taken place. The family would like to sincerely thank Palliative Care and the VON for their compassionate care and support.


MCEACHERN (Walters), Roberta Marion

It is with great sorrow that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of our mom, Roberta, at the New Waterford, Hospital, November 30, 2021, following a brief illness at the age of 94. Mom was born April 8, 1927, to her parents, George and Myrtle (Piercey) Walters in Fortune Bay, Newfoundland, one of seven children. Upon completion of high school, she moved to New Waterford where she met our Dad, Dave McEachern. Together they built their lives and raised a large family.

Upon Dad's early passing, Mom became the matriarch of the McEachern family, which grew to five generations. Throughout the years, her love, support and complete devotion to us children gave each of us a solid foundation and great respect for her determination to provide us with a good life and an awesome mom. Mom was a very active lady within the community. She was a lifetime member and past president of New Waterford Legion. She was a great cook and made the best bread ever.

Mom is survived by her sister, Carrie Smith of Grand Bank, Newfoundland; daughters, Helena Campagnoni (Bruce), Bernadette Leverton, Leah (Myles) Lowe; sons, Gordon (Dottie), Paul "Tuddie" (Brenda), Byron, Wayne (Linda), George (Jane), Jerry, Angus (Michelle), Frank (Melanie), and daughter-in-law, Dolly; 28 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Dave; sisters, Maud King and Ida Walters; brothers, Jim, Frank, and George Walters; sons, David "Butch" and Leo, and daughters, Theresa McEachern, and Caroline Perin; sons-in-law, Lee Campagnoni and Robert Leverton; granddaughter, Loralei Leverton and daughter-in-law, Ann McEachern.

A special thanks to the second-floor medical staff of the New Waterford Hospital, Dr. Jennifer Lange, New Waterford Home Care, and VON. A special thank you to her kind neighbour, Tonya. Visitation will be held today (Thursday, December 2, 2021) from 6-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will take place on Friday, Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Cremation will follow with burial in St. Agnes Cemetery at a later date. Following the mass, a reception will be held at the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford. Masks and proof of double vaccination are required at all locations. Donations in her memory may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, New Waterford. SNOW, John

The family and friends of John Snow of Sydney, N.S., wish to announce his passing on Nov. 21, 2021. He leaves behind the love of his life Stephanie (Short), parents Mark and Lillian, siblings Denise, William (Jaymi), Nicole (Ian), and a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by grandparents John and Jane Barrett and John and Mary Snow.

Raised in North River, N.L., John will be remembered for his drive, authenticity and kindness. He earned his Bachelors of Science and Pharmacy at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He then ran a successful business for many years. He was actively involved in fundraising for community groups. John was engaged and determined. He dedicated his life to helping others and touched many lives. In his spare time John practiced martial arts, yoga, played Dungeons and Dragons, rescued feral cats, and gardened. He also enjoyed doing home renovations with his beloved Steph. John and Stephanie were deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support from the community. Sincere gratitude is extended to his friends and coworkers at Shoppers Drug Mart, as well as the health care providers at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and the VON. Cremation and private celebration of life has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Transition House Foundation.


WADDEN, Mona Hilda Rn

Glace Bay

It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Mona Hilda Wadden, age 82 on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Norris Pt., Bonne Bay, NL, Mona was the daughter of the late Edward and Jessie (Hedge) Major.

She was a dedicated and compassionate registered nurse who was employed at hospitals in NB, NS, NL and Ontario. Mona was a member of St. Mary's Anglican Church, Glace Bay as well as the treasurer for the ACW (Anglican Church Women). She enjoyed playing bridge, cards, oil painting, rug hooking, crafts and cooking. While living in Jamaica, Mona was a member of the Canadian Women's Association (Canadians Working abroad). Her kind and caring personality were with her all her life, she was a, "Nurse to the end."

Mona is survived by her loving husband, Murray Wadden; two daughters, Raelene Kennedy (Scott), Joanne Wadden (Doug); four sons, Darrell (Karolyn), Mark, Stewart (Dennis), Glenn (Niki); three sisters, Minette, Maxine, Ina; two brothers, Carl, Kevin; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mona was predeceased by a brother, Roland Major.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of VJ McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral service will be held at a later date in St. Mary's Anglican Church, Glace Bay with the time to be announced. The service will be live streamed. Covid protocols are in place (Proof of Double Vaccination, Photo I.D.) as well as calling the church to book your seat, 902-849-4747. Thank you.
