HERRIDGE, Murdcock
Published: September 13, 2021
North Sydney
It is with heavy hearts that we the family of Murdock Herridge, age 87, of North Sydney, announce his passing on Sept. 9, 2021, at home surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with renal disease. Dad was born in Pickering, N.L. on Sept. 20, 1933, to George and Rebecca (Pickett) Herridge. He came to North Sydney in 1947 where he met the true love of his life, Barbara Ann and where they settled to raise their family. In his younger years he worked as a fisherman on the "Buddy Bob" with his father, until an accident prevented him from returning to work. He then became a stay-at-home dad which he absolutely loved. He will be fondly remembered for his bottle collecting around North Sydney, his daily walks to Bens for his five loaves of bread, his love of cooking and feeding whoever dropped by and most of all, for the love he had for his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and siblings.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Barbara (Whitty) Herridge; his four sons, Robert (Debbie), Frenchvale; David (Lisa), Little Pond; Albert (Priscilla), North Sydney; Roger (Shannon), Sydney Mines; his two daughters, Bonnie (Jackie), North Sydney and "Daddy's little girl" Nancy (D.J.), Alder Point. Also surviving are his 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly; four brothers, Clayton and Wilfred, both of Sydney Mines, Eb (Vange) and George, both of North Sydney and daughter-in-law Josephine Herridge. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son Allan and sister Dorothy.

Murdock was a renal patient for the past six years and his body just became to tired to fight anymore. We would like to thank Northside renal clinic and Dr. Hewlett for the love and compassion they have shown him over the years. The family would also like to thank Northside Homemakers, VON, Palliative Care and EHS for the many trips they made to his home.

Visitation for Murdock will be Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Doug MacDonald presiding. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. COVID-19 protocol regarding the wearing of masks, social distancing and limited seating at the funeral home and church will be observed. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com

INGRAM, Ronald William -- Neil's Harbour
Published: August 27, 2022
May 30, 1920 - September 5, 2021
Neil's Harbour

A good man has died. Ronald William Ingram, 101 years young, passed away in Highland Manor, Neil's Harbour on September 5, 2021, close to the house he helped build 75 years ago for his bride. Ron was a fisherman from the age of 10 to his retirement in his mid 70s. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and the last of the people who settled in Neil's Harbour from Grand Bruit, NL. Ron travelled here in 1943 to fish with his uncle and met the love of his life, Bernice Seymour. Their courtship bloomed into a very successful 66-year marriage, and they were happy together in the cozy house they built. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Gramp was a person who helped others. His house was a hub of activity right up until he died with family, friends, neighbours, and fishing buddies coming by for a chat. He had lots of interesting stories to share; he escaped death at sea at least once and he also saved others from a watery grave.

My grandfather was not one to preach, but he led by example. He was capable of both incredible toughness and tenderness. He took his widowed father into his home and cared for him until his death at 98. He stayed up at night with sick babies and made breakfasts at 4 a.m. for his grandkids before they left his house to return to their lives in Halifax. He showed us the value of hard work and was an excellent provider. He concerned himself with his community and his church; he was an active member of his volunteer fire department until a year before his death. He believed in the importance of naps! He was a lifelong reader and a lover of cats. He stayed connected with people and never lost interest in them, even after he was left alone and heartbroken when Nan died in 2013.

He never stopped moving and kept a garden and raised chickens well into his nineties (his carrots were so sweet!). He cared about his neighbours and would check in with them after they made a trip to Town. He could be very stubborn, insisting on decorating his house with outdoor Christmas lights long after it was safe for him to do so, causing many a row with Nan. He made the best partridge soup and relished a good ice cream cone! Ron was never one for sports but he loved to pick berries. If berry picking was an Olympic sport, I am confident he would have been a gold medalist. Gramp believed that "you only have so much time in this world, and when your number is up, that's it."

In the end, he was ready to go and join our grandmother. I will always remember him looking out at the sea from his kitchen window where he started every day with a wash and a shave. He was a man who knew that he was lucky; he had everything he wanted from life. "We live in the best place in the world," he'd say. He will be forever remembered by his family with pride and full hearts.

Ron is survived by his son, Ross (Catherine Ann) and daughter, Kathy (late Darryl MacKinnon); grandchildren, Karla (Trevor), Shannon (Matt), Ronald, Casey (Annette), Christian (Kelly), Corey (Tiffany); great-grandchildren, Tessa, Jonah, Emilie, Mathis, Alexia and Noemie; sisters-in-law, Joan, Shirley and Trudy and brother-in-law Herbert. He was predeceased by his wife Bernice (Seymour); parents, Victor and Elsie; brothers, Clarence (Irene) and Fred; daughter-in-law, Ellen and son-in-law, Darryl.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 2 p.m. in St. Andrew's Church, Neil's Harbour, with Reverend Carolyn Sharp officiating. The burial will follow in St. Andrew's cemetery. A reception will be held after the service at St. Andrew's Hall. Masks are required in the church and at the reception. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Andrew's Church in Neil's Harbour. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com

South Bar
It is with profound sadness and disbelief we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, son, father, grandfather and friend, Roderick 'Roddy' Anthony Joseph Sweeney. Born on August 11, 1976, in St. John's, NL, Roddy was the son of Agnes Sweeney and the late Richard Nolan. You would find Rodney spending time with his family, visiting with his buddies, Fred Tighe and Ray MacIssac, working or fixing his vehicles. Over his short life, he was employed by many employers. Currently employed by Pro-Ex, Roddy loved his job and the people he shared it with, especially Blake and Fred.

Besides his mother, Roddy is survived by the love of his life, Connie Tighe; son, Timmy; daughter-in-law Courtney; most special girl, his granddaughter, Lilly; as well as a number of family members in Corner Brook, NL and his fur babies, Chico and Ginger, who will miss him tremendously. Besides his father, Roddy is predeceased by grandparents, Angela and Joseph Sweeney, Corner Brook, NL; mother-in-law, Kay Tighe; brother-in-law, Buddy Tighe; special nephew, Joneil Hanna and his best fur friend, Whitey. We would like to thank the EMTs, Dr. Holmes and the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for there care of Roddy in his time of need.

"It's a mystery to me. We have a greed with which we have agreed. You think you have to want more than you need. Until you have it all you won't be free. Society, you're a crazy breed. I hope you're not lonely without me" (Society by Eddie Vedder - These are the lyrics to one of Roddy's favorite song)
