FRANCIS, Jane "Janie" -- North Sydney

After a long and courageous battle with cancer It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Jane "Janie" Harriett Francis (MacDonald) on Monday, Aug 1, 2022, at home surrounded by her family. Born in Hunt's Island, Burgeo, NL, on March 15, 1951, Janie was the daughter of the late Gordon and Ellen MacDonald. She was a devoted member of St John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. She was a long-time lunchroom and bus supervisor for the CBRCE, a long time Cape Breton Post and Chronicle Herald carrier, a proud member of the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association of Canada, Mothers Union of the St John's Anglican Church, North Sydney Seniors and Pensioners Club, North Sydney Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Tops #1009, Fun and Mixed Dart League of the Fulton Orange Lodge, Salvation Army Christmas Kettles and Terry Fox volunteer. Janie was always there to volunteer and lend a hand to anyone who needed it. Thank you to all who held a special place in her heart.

She is survived by her children, D'anne Francis (Charlie), Tanya Martinovic, Donald Francis, Christopher Francis, Ronnie (Anna) Francis, Dave Francis; her grandchildren, Robert Francis, Lizzy Francis, Charles Hickman, Amy (Kevin) White and Jennifer Francis; her great-grandchildren, Madison, Ian and Dylan; her siblings, Barbara (John) McLeod, Cora (Reginald) Best, Ada (Darrell) MacDonald, Delphine (Montford) Keeping, Paul MacDonald and Margaret (Ian) Hawlbolt; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and many who were like family to her. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ronald; her son, Paul; and son-in-law, Joe Martinovic.

Visitation for Janie will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., on Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Debbie Fice officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. On line condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com   For those who cannot attend the service it will be live streamed on the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Facebook page. "Till we meet again."


KNEE (Pentecost) , Theresa -- Port Aux Basques

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Theresa (Pentecost) Knee. Theresa passed away at the age of 88 on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port Aux Basques, NL. Born in Sydney Mines, N.S. Theresa is survived by her sister, Florence Power; sister-and-brothers-in-law, Shirley, Doreen and Nina Pentecost, Sandy MacAulay, and Ann (Albert) Cousins, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Jack & Margaret (McGuigan) Pentecost; her husband, Alex Knee; brothers, Artie, Johnny, Steven, David, and Jimmy; sisters, Christina, Bernadette, and Rosie; father and mother-in-law, Alex and Grace Knee; Brothers-in-law, Charlie Williams, Clarence Chapman, Ross and Montford Knee, and sister-in-law Effie Pentecost.

Theresa was a kind, compassionate person with a great sense of humor. She loved having a good time; when the music started you could always find Theresa on the dance floor. Theresa has left us with wonderful memories that will fill our hearts with joy and put smiles on our face whenever we think of her. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre. Your ongoing care, compassion, and respect you uphave given over the years is truly appreciated. A special thank you to Theresa's family in Newfoundland. We truly appreciate you helping us during this difficult time.

In keeping with Theresa's wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 8, 2022, at St. Joseph Cemetery in Sydney mines at 10 a.m.
Theresa - in life, we loved you dearly. In death, we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place that no one else will ever fill.


RICH, Mitchie Winnifred -- New Waterford

It is with deepest sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Mitchie Winnifred Rich, 76, on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, after a brave battle with cancer. Mitchie was born in Springdale, Newfoundland to Angus William and Fanny Jean Taylor. After high school, she began working with the Canadian National Telecommunications office in Springdale, NL, and later moved to Sydney, N.S., where she worked at Zellers. She later started a new career as a Personal Care Worker at the Maple Hill Manor in New Waterford, N.S., for just under 20 years.

In 1967, Mitchie met Wayne Rich and they wed in 1973, going on to have three children, Debbie Rich, Darren Rich, and Jason Rich. Mitchie was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who always thought of others before herself and she made sure her home was filled with warmth and kindness. Cooking and baking came naturally to her and she enjoyed feeding her family and friends delicious dishes and treats. She was a passionate quilter and enjoyed her time with the Coal Town Girls Quilting group. Mitchie could often be found walking with her friend, Raylene, or at the family summer home in River Denys, N.S. Mitchie also enjoyed her membership with the Calvin United Church Women.

Mitchie touched so many lives and we will all miss her dearly. She loved keeping In touch with countless relatives and friends and enjoyed hearing their stories and sharing her own.

Mitchie is survived by her husband, Wayne Rich, New Waterford, N.S. and their children, Debbie, Darren, and Jason, all of Alberta; beloved grandchildren, Miranda, Arden, Evan, Nathan, Jack, and Travis; siblings, Helen Hustins, Springdale, NL, Roxanne Miller, Grand Prairie, AB, RhonaStuckless, Twillingate, NL, Otto Taylor, Robert's Arm, NL, Baxter Taylor, Conception Harbour, NL, and Ford Taylor, Springdale, NL. She is also survived by many more nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by grandson, Connor Rich, Calgary, AB, and siblings, Viletta Robinson, Springdale, NL, Angus Taylor Jr., Winnipeg, MB, and Derrick Taylor, Springdale, NL. Special friends of Mitchie were Charlotte, Judy, Raylene, Linda, Therese, Carmel, Mary L. and too many more friends to mention.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. There will be a funeral service at Calvin United Church on Tuesday, August 23 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Reception to follow in the Rev. Duncan Roach Fellowship Room of the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mitchie's memory to Calvin United Church, 417 Smith Street, New Waterford, N.S., or Hospice Cape Breton, Sydney, N.S. The family would like to thank the kind and compassionate doctors and nurses at Hospice Cape Breton and the VON. We would also like to thank Reverend Duncan Roach for all of his support and guidance.
