CONFIANT, Dorothy Helen -- North Sydney
Published: February 16, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Helen Confiant, age 94, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend on Monday, February 13, 2023, in the Palliative Care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Codroy Valley, Newfoundland on September 23, 1928, Dorothy was a daughter of the late Bill and Catherine (Hilliard) Carter.

Dorothy had a heart of gold and was such a good mom, nanny, and wife. She always went above and beyond for all of her children and especially all of her grandchildren. She was such a great cook and was always preparing big meals for everyone to share in and make memories. She was the best mom that anyone could possibly ask for. Dorothy volunteered at the Northside Guest Home for 36 years, and was so good to all the patients she cared for there. She was a member of the Pensioners Club in North Sydney for many years. She was a tremendously selfless woman, making herself available to help anyone and everyone she could.

Dorothy is lovingly survived by her children, Joan Barron (Kippy), Colleen Grant (Donnie), Laura Cordero (Vince), Kay Ransome (Ron), Clarissa Campbell (Cyril), Arlene MacLean (Charles), Farrell (Carol), Darrell (Ellen), Maxine Campbell (Bobby), and Joy Confiant (Vernon). She is further survived by her 22 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved taking care of and baking for. She is also survived by her sisters in Newfoundland, with whom she was very close, Vera, Carol, and Greta. Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Tom, for whom she was a proud and loving wife; her two children, Tommy and Marie Confiant; and by her siblings Bill, Fred, Ella, and Kay.

The family would like to thank the staff of the 3rd floor at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, along with the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care Unit, the VON and all other homecare workers for the excellent care and treatment they provided. They cannot be thanked enough for everything they did. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 17th, at Calvary Baptist Church, North Sydney, with Rev. James MacLellan officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney in the spring. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Online condolences may be sent to the family by leaving a message on the tribute wall of the obituary at www.wjdooley.com
