TURNER, Ada - Glace Bay

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of my sister, Ada Turner (nee Rideout) on Monday, January 30, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Ada was born in Harbour Le Cou, NL, on October 5, 1923. She was a daughter of Theo and Irene Blanche Rideout. She came to Glace Bay at the age of 15 and lived the remainder of her life there. She is survived by her sister, Vera (Calvin) Collett, of Deer Lake, NL; a number of nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Madge Kennedy and the Turner family. Ada was predeceased by her parents, Theo and Irene; the love of her life, her husband, Johnny; her sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Stanley Butt and brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Myrtle Rideout. She will be missed by her special friends, Louise McMullin, Gloria and Frank Chissam, Carol and John Newell and Brenda and Jackie McMullin and their families.

Ada was a Worthy Mistress of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1955, Worthy Matron in 2001 and past Matron for 11 years, a 30 year volunteer with Townhouse and Taigh Na Mara, a member of the Glace Bay Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the United Church Women, a member of the Unified Board Epworth Church, UCW and Circle Unit Group at Epworth for many years. Ada spent her entire life helping others. Her sister, Vera, wishes to thank members and staff of Seaview Manor for taking such good care of her during her stay there. Also thank you to the friends who gave a helping hand to me on the passing of my sister. May God Bless You all.

A visitation will take place at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay on Sunday, Feb. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be at Newsom United Church, Glace Bay on Monday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Bob Biggar officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery will take place at a later date. For those unable to attend the service will be livestreamed through Patten Funeral Home's Facebook page.
