GALWAY, Clara - Passed peacefully away in the presence of her family at the Newhook Clinic in Whitbourne on Sunday, July 18, 1996, age 73 years. Predeceased by her loving husband Benedict (June 1964) and son Richard (July 1973). Leaving to mourn with loving memories are sons: Ben (wife Clara), Tony (wife Norma), Rick (wife Jackie) with whom she resided; daughters: Harriet (husband Eric Peddle). Christine (Wade Smith); and 15 grandchildren: Colleen (husband Michael Gillingham), Ben (Jr.), Kerry, Laureen, April, Tony, Colin, Grant, Tiffany, Bryan and Brittany Galway; Tammy and Eric (Jr.) Peddle; Jennifer and Kimberly Smith. Also left to mourn is her brother Bill Hutchings of Carbonear; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Resting at Holloway's Funeral Home in Whitbourne. GALWAY, Elizabeth (nee DeBourke) - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on August 3, 1989, age 78 years. Predeceased by her husband John Galway. Left with fond and loving memories nine children: Kevin (Rowena), Cyril (Ruby), Edward (Barb), Gerry, Betty Fields (Glen), West Virginia, Mary Fahey (John), Angela Stewart (Ed), British Columbia, Barbara Hoddinott (Wade), California and Sheila Farrell (Cyril), Grand Falls; twenty-six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; also other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home from noon Saturday. GALWAY, Gerald James - Passed peacefully away at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, on December 24, 1996 Gerald Galway of Manuels, age 63 years. Leaving to mourn, with a lifetime of happy memories, his devoted wife Kathleen; four sons: Gerald (Mary), Shaun (Elaine), Barry and Tony; three daughters: Colleen, Janet Andrews (Wayne) and Kathy (fiance Albert Lake); one sister Veronica Norcott, Rochester, New Hampshire; 8 grandchildren: Kiera, Daniel, Kevin, Ashley, Heather, Ian, Claire and Kyle; also a large circle of relatives and friend. GALWAY, Jane (Jenny) - Passed peacefully away June 19, 1991 at the Hoyles-Escasoni age 85 years. Predeceased by her husband William. Leaving to mourn her four sons: Frank at St. John's, Edward and wife Mary at St. John's, John and wife Helen at Sylmar, California, Kevin and wife Diane at Berrie, Vermont, one brother Stephen Harte and wife Mercedes at Witless Bay, six grandsons, ten grand-daughters, nine great-grandchildren, eight nieces and ten nephews. Galway, John J. - Passed away suddenly at Cambridge, Ontario on May 22, 1989 in his 68th year. Predeceased by his brother James in 1981. Born at Bell Island, August 10, 1921. Son of the late John and Alice Galway. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Brazil); loving father of five sons: Michael and wife Lorraine, Gabriel, Raymond (Fox) and wife Mona, all at Cambridge, Ontario, John and wife Gloria at Bell Island, Paul at Labrador City; six daughters: Margaret (Mrs. John Ashford), Diane (Mrs. Robert Fitzgerald), Alice (Mrs. William Tatai) all at Cambridge, Ontario, Eileen (Mrs. Stewart Dixon) and Carol, both of Labrador City, Cynthia (Mrs. Terry Skehans) at Bell Island; three sisters: Mrs. Minnie Byrne, Mrs. Alice Burke, both at Victoria, B.C. and Mrs. Bridget Byrne at St. John's; twenty grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and friends. GILBERT, Arminius (Mene) - Passed away on June 19, 1992 at the Health Science Complex, age 80 years. GILBERT, Edwin L. - Passed away at the Health Sciences Complex in St. John's on Tuesday, August 3rd, age 64 years, Edwin Gilbert of Grand Falls. Left to mourn are his loving wife Ruby; five daughters: Edna (Mrs. Gary MacDonald), Grand Falls, Barbara (Mrs. Leslie Percy) of Grand Falls, Geraldine (Mrs. Keith MacDonald), Frederickton, N.B., Marie, Corner Brook, and Dianne (Mrs. Oliver Arthur), Englee as well as seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Ralph in New York, brother Roy in Ottawa, and sister Marie in New York, and many other relatives and friends. Resting at Central Funeral Home, Grand Falls. GILBERT, George William - (World War II Veteran, Member of the 59th Regiment, 971105). Passed peacefully away at The Grace General Hospital on Tuesday, January 27th, 1998, in his 78th year. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 51 years, Mildred (nee Crann); three sons: Rex (Ethel), Cupids, Reginald, Fair Haven, Wayne (Faye Geange), Glenwood; one daughter Barbara Mulcahy (Dennis), St. John's; seven grandchildren: Layla, Lee, Stephanie, Adam, Daniel, Eoin and Maria; Elizabeth Gilbert (mother of Layla and Lee); three sisters: Edna Crann, Fair Haven, Mytle Bickford, Brantford, Ontario, and Janet Reid (Mickey), Mattawa, Ontario; and a large number of relatives and friends. Resting at St. Paul's By-the-Sea United Church, Fair Haven. Funeral Service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 30th, 1998. Interment to follow at the United Church Cemetery, Fair Haven. GILBERT, John Newman - Passed peacefully away on Sunday, April 15, 1990, at Carbonear General Hospital after a lengthy illness of Hopeall, Trinity Bay, age 78 years. Survived by his wife Emma; three sons; three daughters; fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. GILBERT, Mabel Julia - Passed peacefully away at Placentia Hospital on Saturday, September 28, 1991, Mabel Julia Gilbert, age 93 years. GILBERT, Samuel A. - Passed peacefully away at the Dr. W.H. Newhook Community Health Center on Sunday, March 10, 1996 of Green's Harbour, Trinity Bay, aged 52 years. Predeceased by parents Newman and Emma. Leaving to mourn with loving memories Brenda; daughter Linda March (Keith); son Scott (girlfriend Renee George); two brothers: Stewart (Mona), Philip (Dale), both of Hopeall; three sisters: Margaret Day (Cecil), Old Shop, Mary Higdon (Heber), New Harbour, Georgina Gilbert (Mike Dubois), Orleans, Ontario; also a large circle of other family and friends. The funeral service was held from Faith United Church, Green's Harbour on Wednesday, March 13th at 2:00 p.m. Interment followed at Hopeall First United Church Cemetery, Hopeall. GLYNN, Brother Benignus (George) - Passed peacefully away at the Alexian Brother's Hospital in San Jose, California, Brother Benignus Glynn (George). Son of the late Cornielius and Florence Glynn. Leaving to mourn his sisters: Mary, Gertie (Mrs. Gus Spurrell), Bride (Mrs. Luke Grenning), Betty (Mrs. Stephen F. Delaney); his brothers: Leo and wife Mary, Stan and his wife Estella; also his sisters-in-law: Mary (Mrs. Harry Glynn) and Mae (Mrs. Frank Glynn); brother-in-law Al Snow; also many nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. Predeceased by his brothers: Francis and Gerald Glynn. Leaving to mourn are his loving wife Frances Glynn (nee Pearcey); his sons: Jim and daughter-in-law Val of Snowlake, Manitoba; Gary and his wife Sharon, Halifax; his daughters: Amanda Day and son-in-law Joseph; Chris and son-in-law Dave; ten grandchildren. GOSSE, Ada "Mae" - Mrs. Ada "Mae" Gosse, beloved wife of Mr. George Gosse of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on June 19, 1996, at the age of 58 years. Besides her loving husband, Mae is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Victoria Gosse; two daughters and sons-in-law: Michelle and Scott Rowe, Wendy and Mark Ulmer; and two grandchildren: Zachary and Georgiana Mae, all of Calgary. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Roberta and Cyril Ivany of Mount Pearl, Newfoundland; and her brother and sister-in-law, Wilfred and Miki Lush of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and their families. She was predeceased by her parents Wilfred and Virtue Lush. Mae graduated from Prince of Wales College in St. John's, Newfoundland in 1955, then entered the Grace Hospital, School of Nursing, obtaining her Registered Nurse designation in 1959. Mae, George and family moved to Calgary in 1975. She always gave of her time as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, and friend. Mae joined the Occupational Health Department of the City of Calgary in March 1976 where she continued to work until her illness. Mae will always be lovingly remembered by her smile and her kindness. Dear sister of Mary and Agnes of El Cajon, California, Madonna of West Bloomfield, Michigan, Sister Margaret Mary of Presentation Generalate, St. John's and Thomas of Hamilton, Ont.; loving sister-in-law of Annie and Viva Gosse of Torbay, Richard Michael of West Bloomfield, Michigan and Thomas Davidson of El Cajon, California. GREENE, Eugene Geddes - 69, Botwood, died October 8, 1992. Born in Bishop's Falls he was the son of the late John and Elsie (Warren) Greene. He was a member of the Newfoundland Ranger Force from which he joined the Newfoundland Constabulary and assisted with the Knights of Columbus fire on December 12, 1942. He Joined the Newfoundland Militia, Royal Artillery and on arrival in England with the Militia he transferred to the 166 Royal Newfoundland Regiment and served with the Regiment throughout the Italian Campaign and returned home in 1945. He worked with the Forestry and Fisheries Department in Botwood and from there worked in Churchill Falls until his retirement. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Lidston; Three sons, Howard, Wayne and David, Ontario; two daughters, Sandra Lyver, Churchill Falls and Pauline Oulette, Valleyview, Alberta; Four grandchildren; five sisters, Dorothy Locke, St. John's, Vera Dempsey, Gander, Daphne MacDonald, Brampton, Ontario, Tephi Pepe, and Olga Greene, both of St. Catherine's, Ontario; and a number of nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by four brothers, Garnet, Gilbert, Boyce and Edward. Funeral was from Trinity United Church, Botwood on October 12.
