Passed peacefully away at Spruce Grove, Alberta on July 11, 2009, Mrs. Eileen Baker, formerly of Jersey Harbour, age 86 years. Leaving to mourn her loving family-- children; Joyce Day (Cecil) at North Sydney, Joan Durnford (John) at Halifax, Gordon Baker (Cathy) at Gander, Beverly Skinner (Cecil) and Rhonda Stewart at Harbour Breton, Ruth Ivey at North Sydney, Marie Baker at Calgary and Pauline Mitchell (Bobby) at Spruce Grove, Alberta, 21 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren, one brother, Gordon Stoodley (Ella) at Harbour Breton plus a number of other relatives and friends. Predeceased by her husband, Stephen, sons-in-law Frank Stewart and Harold Ivey, and parents, Walter and Tryphena Stoodley. A memorial service will be held from Spencer's Funeral Home in Harbour Breton on Wednesday, September 9 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm for Mrs. Baker and, also, her loving daughter, Marie Baker, who passed away on July 28, 2009 at Spruce Grove, Alberta. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2009, at 2:00 pm from St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church in Harbour Breton with Rev. Roy Simms officiating. Interment of ashes will follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Harbour Breton, for the late Mrs. Eileen and Marie Baker. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Spencer's Funeral Home.

Passed peacefully away at the Connaigre Peninsula Health Care Center in Harbour Breton on Thursday, July 23, 2009, Mr. Merrill May, age 71 years of English Harbour West. Leaving to mourn his loving family; wife, Ada; two daughters, Loretta (Greg West) at Buchans, Peggy ( Carl Hutchings) at Goulds; three sons, Wally (Beverley) at Goulds, Levi (Heather) at Mount Pearl and Ernie (Muriel) at Boxey; nine grandchildren, Sherrill Phillips, Les Phillips, Brad, Vanessa, Jennifer, Leanne, Selena, Kyle and Keegan May; two brothers, Chesley (Melinda) and Ernest John (Emily) all at Grand Bank; two sisters, Irene (Nathan Miles) at Seal Cove, CBS and Phyllis (Nick Howse) at Grand Bank; two brothers-in-law, Wally Hepditch (Irene) at Trenton, Ont. and Richard May at Grand Bank plus a number of other relatives and friends. Predeceased by his sister, Florence May. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 26, at 2:00pm from St. Thomas Anglican Church in English Harbour West with Rev. Roy Simms officiating. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery in English Harbour West. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Spencer's Funeral Home.

Passed peacefully away at the Connaigre Peninsula Health Care Center in Harbour Breton on Friday, July 3, 2009, Mr. Hartley Rose, age 83 years of Gaultois. Leaving to mourn his loving family-- 5 sons; Wesley (Mildred) at Bay D'Espoir, Cyril (Joan), Roland (Barbara), Ivan (Doris), all at Gaultois and Claude (Glenda) at CBS, 3 daughters; Karen (John Windsor) at Gaultois, Wanda (Lenus Hunt) at St. Alban's and Queena (Bruce) at Milltown, 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Mrs. Flossie Gaulton at Gander and Mrs. Elizabeth Roberts at Halifax plus a number of other relatives and friends. Predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth, parents, Elizabeth and James Rose, four brothers; Stanley, Edgar, Bert and John, and sisters; Mrs. Molly Peters and Bridie. Funeral service was held on Monday, July 6 at 2 pm from St. Luke's Anglican Church in Gaultois with Rev. Roy Simms officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery in Gaultois. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Spencer's Funeral Home.

SNOOK, Frederick

Passed suddenly away near his cabin at Miller's Passage on Thursday, July 30, 2009, Mr. Frederick Snook, age 65 years of Harbour Breton. Leaving to mourn his loving family; wife, Ann Marie; one daughter, Lynette and husband, Perry Morris, Lower Sackville, N.S.; three sons, Freddie at Harbour Breton, Paul and girlfriend, Stacy, at St. John's and Kenneth Day and wife, Judy, at Gander; one grandson, Clinton Day at Gander; five brothers, Stan (Ernestine), Tom (Sarah) at Harbour Breton, Larry (Nadine) at Lower Sackville, N.S., Lewis (Ruth) at Harbour Breton and Keith (Jill) at Courtney, B.C.; three sisters, Ann (Leo Stewart) at Harbour Breton, Juanita (Darren) and Eileen (Dale) both at Nainamo, B.C.; one aunt, Eileen Proudfoot at Campbell River, B.C.; 36 nieces and nephews plus other relatives and friends. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Marjorie Snook, and brother-in-law, Gary Lambert. Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 3, at 11:00 am from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Harbour Breton with Father Tom Duffenais officiating. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery at Harbour Breton. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Spencers Funeral Home.
