James Gosse - We are indeed sorry to record the death of James Gosse who passed peacefully away at his home today at noon. He was 57.
The late Mr. Gosse was a carpenter by trade and for several years was an employee of Messr. Mark Gosse and Sons, where he worked well. About ten months ago he entered a St. John's hospital for a surgical operation and since then he has been in failing health. However it was not until two weeks ago that he was obliged to remain in bed and it hardly seems possible to his friends that his end came so quickly. He bore his suffering with true Christian fortitude and ever had a cheerful word for his family and friends.
Mourning their sad loss are his widow, one son, Randell, five daughters, Sadie (Mrs. Constable James Kaye of Toronto), Annie (Mrs. Nathan Barrett of Toronto), Jennie (Mrs. Melvin Noseworthy of Spaniard's Bay) and Shirley and Sandra at home. Besides these there are three brothers, Selby, Augustus and Josiah, four sisters, Bessie (Mrs. Newell of Bell Island), Elsie (Mrs. John Arthur Hutchings of Spaniard's Bay), Gladys
(Mrs. Noah Barrett of Spaniard's Bay), and Annie (Mrs. James Yetman of St. John's).
His funeral took place to the Church of the Holy Redeemer, Spaniard's Bay on Wednesday afternoon, where the service was conducted by the Rev. H. M. Batten. Burial was in the family plot.
"When the day of toil is done,
When the race of life is won,
Father, grant they wearied one,
Rest for evermore."
