Mercer - Barrett Wedding
St. Mark's Anglican Church at Shearstown was beautifully decorated with a profusion of spring flowers on Saturday June 7th when Susie Perline, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Mercer of Shearstown was united in Holy Matrimony to Moses Smith, only son of Mr. and Mrs. John Barrett of Bishop's Cove.
The ceremony was performed by the Rector, Rev. I. Butler, B.A., assisted by Rev. Batten rector of Upper Island Cove.
The bride looked a picture of lovingness as she entered the Church on the arm of her uncle, Mr. Max Mercer, who gave her in marriage, to the strains of the wedding march played by the church organist, Mrs. Walter Earle. Wearing a floor length gown of nylon net over satin with bouffant skirt, her shoulder length veil was held in place by a net covered halo of rhinestones and sequins and she carried a bouquet of red and white roses.
The bridesmaids Mrs. Rita Holmes, Miss Sylvia Neil and Miss Barrett wore identical floor length gowns of blue nylon net with matching accessories and carried bouquets of multi-coloured flowers.
The groom was ably supported by Mr. Arthur Mercer, brother of the bride, Mr. Edward Holmes and Mr. Leander Barrett.
The flower girls Donna Crocker and Iris Mercer, were beautifully attractive in pink nylon net dresses and carried baskets of multi-coloured flowers.
Following the ceremony, a car-cade of some sixty cars proceeded to the Bishop's Cove Anglican School where the reception was held with some three hundred guests attending and the usual toast list honoured.
The bride's mother received wearing navy with white accessories; she was assisted by the groom's mother who wore wine with white accessories. The beautiful 3-tier wedding cake which adorned the bride's table was baked and decorated by Mrs. William Saunders.
Mr. and Mrs. Barrett has taken up residence at Bishop's Cove. We join with their many friends in wishing them a happy journey over the matrimonial sea.
Gowns - were from the Model Shop. Flowers - Ayre and Sons Ltd.
