BLUNDON, Archibald (August 9, 1932-Jan. 3, 2009) - It is with great sadness that the families of Archibald (Jack) C. Blundon announce his sudden passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, on Jan. 3, 2009, at age 76 years. Predeceased by his wife, Audrey; parents, Harold and Ella Blundon; sisters, Ruby, Helen, Gertrude and Mary; brothers, James, Harry, Ralph and Edward. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are daughter, Debra (Les) of Orangeville, ON; sister, Marjorie (Max) Chaulk of Carmanville; brother, Selby (Bernice) Blundon of Carmanville and sister, Betty of Grand Falls-Windsor. The funeral service took place Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009 from Evangel Pentecostal Church, Grand Falls-Windsor with Pastor Geoff Slade officiating. The internment followed at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Caribou Road, Grand Falls-Windsor. Donations in his memory may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic, Grand Falls-Windsor. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

BRETT, Angela Rosemary - Passed peacefully away Jan. 13, 2009 at Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre, Botwood, Angela Rosemary Brett. She was 42. Left to mourn are parents, June and Harris Brett. Also leaving to mourn sister Joanne (Dwight) Paul and brothers, Neil (Tanya) Brett and Gregory (Christina) Brett; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor Shannon Meade will conduct funeral services at Jubilee Pentecostal Temple, Botwood on Friday, Jan. 16, 2009. Interment will be at Point Leamington Pentecostal Cemetery, Point Leamington. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood. Pallbearers are brothers, Neil Brett, Gregory Brett; cousins, Sterling Hannam, Wade Buckley, Tyler Buckley; and friend Boyde Brent. Honorary pallbearers are her parents, June and Harris Brent.

BURRY, Edward - It is with sadness that the families of the late Edward Burry announce his passing Jan. 7, 2009 at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre in Botwood, at age 67. Predeceased by his parents, Edward and Rhoda Burry; stepbrothers, Dave, Oliver, Edgar and William; stepsister, Margaret. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are wife, Barbara; sons, Darryl (Carla) of Botwood, Jeffery (Jennifer) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Adam and Jenna; sisters, Rhoda (Junior) Callahan of Ontario; Eunice (Lief) Haave of Nottonden, Norway; stepbrother, Baxter (Jean) of Botwood; stepsisters, Myrtle Rees of Botwood, Phoebe Feltham of Grand Falls-Windsor; Evelyn Evans of Ontario; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. The funeral service took place January 10, 2009 from the Jubilee Pentecostal Tabernacle with Pastor Frazer Roberts officiating. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Botwood. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Botwood Funeral Home.

CHAMPION, Herbert (August 9, 1933-January 2, 2009) - It is with great sadness that the families of Herbert Champion announce his passing after a brief illness at Heath Sciences Centre, St. John's, NL, aged 75 years. Predeceased by parents, Eli and Mary Champion; brothers, William (Grace) and Fred (Sarah) and Harvey; sister, Effie (Patrick) Walsh. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are wife, Evelyn; sons, Derek (Line), Darren (Elizabeth), Steve (Susan Hiscock) and Richard (Dawn English); daughters, Carolyn (Pearce) West and Allison (Gerald) Baker; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Mabel (Hedley-deceased) Thompson and Mildred (Garfield) Langdon; as well as a large number of relatives and friends. There will be a private funeral service only, as well as private visitation for immediate family members only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Champion family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

DAVIS, Michael Augustine (Austin) O.C. - Having burned the candle at both ends, Austin died as he lived, with spirit, on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009. Michael (Austin) Davis was a well-known actor (Pigeon Inlet, The Rowdyman), businessman, civil servant and dedicated community volunteer. Predeceased by his father, Richard and mother, Bridget; infant son, Richard; brother, Bernard; sister, May; brother-in-law, Jack; nephews Gerry and Freddy Basha; great-nephew, Mark Basha. Celebrating a life well-lived and saddened that he has left us, is his sister, Eileen; children, Gerry, Evelyn, Siobhan Coady (Patrick), Renee Konigs (Raymond) and their mother, Patricia Delaney; grandchildren, Brook, Jake, Delaney, Ryan and Marc; much-loved nieces and nephews, especially Sharon Basha; many cousins and extended family, especially Liam Halley; many lifelong and new friends, poker players, colleagues, members of Actra.
Austin embraced life to the fullest. Born in Fortune Harbour in 1927, educated at St. Bon's, Laval University and Waterloo University, he began his career in Grand Falls-Windsor. He was purchasing manager of the A.N.D. Co., and was responsible for the development of the Moby Joe paper machine. He moved his family to Corner Brook where he worked with Lundrigan's and then moved all to St. John's when he accepted a position with the Federal Government. He loved the stage and spent wonderful times on it and in the Northcliff Drama Club. He continued his acting career and appeared as Uncle Elis Bartlett in the Pigeon Inlet series, as well as too numerous to mention, CBC productions. He was nominated for a Genie (ACTRA) in 1981 as supporting actor in a TV series. He appeared in almost every movie made in the province, from The Rowdyman to the Red Door. He was a great orator, storyteller and life enthusiast. Austin was known for his hospitality. He taught the Dale Carnegie Program and lived what he learned. He loved his family. His advice, guidance and wisdom will be missed. He believed in community service and even to his last day, was thinking of new ways of helping Kids Eat Smart. He was honoured in life with the Order of Canada for his contribution to the arts, the 125 Medal and the Queen's Jubilee Medal for his volunteer activities.
In his memory, rather than flowers, please make a donation to the Kids Eat Smart program or The Gathering Place. He would have much rather helped someone. Austin was celebrated at Mass of Christian Burial at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. Internment was in Grand Falls-Windsor on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009. FARR, Bennett (Feb. 4, 1936 - Jan. 11, 2009) - It is with sadness that the families of the late Bennett Farr announce his sudden passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, Jan. 11, 2009, at age 72 years. Predeceased by his parents, Bennett and Blanche Farr; brothers, Roy, Alec, Cyril, Dave and Clarence. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are his wife, Barbara; son, Benny (Shelly) of Grand Falls-Windsor; daughters, Judy Cater of Grand Falls-Windsor; Darlene (Lindsey) Sparkes of Winnipeg, MB; stepdaughter, Tracey; stepson, Steve (Cecilia); grandchildren, Michael, Nichole, Matthew, Laura, Amanda and Christina; sisters, Pearl Gilbert of Badger; Joy Stover of Ontario; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. The funeral service took place Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009 from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

HAYDEN, Evelyn Florence (1919 - 2009) - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Evelyn Florence Hayden (Butt) announce her passing at Central Newfoundland Hospital in Grand Falls on January 7, 2009 at the age of 89. Evelyn was a member of the Badger United Church and was a contributor to the community of Badger. Predeceased by husband, George, two brothers, Cyril and Walter, and sister, Mary. Left with fond and loving memories are sons, Cyril (Marion) of St. John's, Harry (Josephine) of Mount Pearl, Bert (Judy) of Badger, Eldon (Marilyn) of Moncton, N.B., Lloyd (Diana) of Baie Verte, Ford (Grace) of St. John's, Craig (Maxine) of St. John's; daughters, Vivian Kendall (Wilfred) of Stephenville, Florence Harris (Alton) of Moncton, N.B., Verna Lewis (Douglas) of Salisbury, N.B., Eleanor Dean (Lorne) of Grand Falls-Windsor, Eva Hayden of Moncton, N.B. Also leaving to mourn brothers, Eldred (Louise) of St. John's, Henry (Annie) of Springdale, and sister, Madeline of Goftstown, Massachussets; 25 grandchildren, 19 grea-grandchildren. Reverend Cole and Reverend Reynolds conducted the funeral service at the Badger United Church on January 10, 2009. Interment was at the United Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were sons Cyril, Harry, Bert, Eldon, Lloyd, Ford, and Craig. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes. JANES, Desmond Paul Thomas (1958-2009) - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Desmond Janes announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on Jan. 4, 2009 at the age of 50. Left with fond and loving memories are wife, Diane (Wright); son, Robert (Krista) of Grand Falls-Windsor; daughter Kristi (Stoney) of Grand Falls-Windsor. Also leaving to mourn are parents, Wallace and Margaret Janes; brothers, Rod, Perry and Joe (Louisa); sisters, Sharon and Barbara Janes, Carol Reckling (Ernie); mother-in-law, Kay Wright; father-in-law, Victor Wright; sisters-in-law, Bev MacQuarrie (Jerry), Sharon Downey, Judy Lewis (Dave); nieces, Sara, Sarina, Stephanie and Katie; nephews, Peter, Mark, Andrew, Matthew and Chad; as well as a large circle of close friends and relatives. Father William Hearn conducted funeral services at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Jan. 7, 2009. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery. LODER, Doris Mae - 1924 - 2009 It is with great sadness that the family of the late Doris Mae Loder announce her passing at the Carmelite Nursing Home, in Grand Falls-Windsor, on January 26, 2009, at the age of 84. Doris was a member of the United Church of Badger. She is predeceased by her husband, Douglas; mother, Lillian White; father, Dorman White; one brother, Glen White. Left with fond and loving memories are her six sons, Roger (Judy) of Point of Bay; Reg (Monica) of Badger; Gary of Badger; Terry (Linda) of Badger; Kenneth (Suzanne) of Grand Falls-Windsor; Dennis (Jennifer) of Badger; daughters, Susan (Tim Maloney) of Grand Falls-Windsor; Beverly (Brian Alcock) of Badger. Also leaving to mourn three sisters, one brother, 15 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends. Rev. Ray Cole conducted the funeral service at the United Church in Badger on January 29, 2009. Interment was at the United Cemetery, Badger. Pallbearers were six sons, Roger, Reg, Gary, Terry, Ken and Dennis. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.

OLLERHEAD, Gladys Grace (Brenton) - Passed away Jan. 1, 2009, at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John's, Gladys Grace Ollerhead of Botwood. She was 82 years of age. Predeceased by son, Garry and husbands, Absalom Colbourne and Henry (Dick) Ollerhead. Left to mourn are sons, Rex Colbourne (wife, Sandra) of Botwood; Neil Ollerhead (wife, Kim) of St. John's, Terry Ollerhead (wife, Dale) of Dryden, Ont.; daughters, Wavey (husband, Garry Biles) of Maple Ridge, B.C., Shirley (husband, Dale Boyd) of Main Brook, Nfld., Betty (husband Ian Pugh) of Dryden, Ont., Joanne (husband, Gene Kilgore) of Katy, Texas. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Rebecca Wilson, Georgia, U.S.A.; Ruby Sheppard, St. Anthony; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. David Coffin conducted funeral services at St. James Anglican Church, Botwood, Nfld., Monday, Jan. 5, 2009. Interment was at the Anglican Cemetery, Botwood. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood. Pallbearers were grandson, Christopher Boyde; sons, Terry Ollerhead, Neil Ollerhead, Rex Colbourne; nephew, Sam Brenton; and friend, Kent Aitken.

ROBERTS, Laura (Pastor) - Passed away Jan. 3, 2009, at the Valley Vista Senior Citizens' Home, Springdale, Pastor Laura Roberts. She was 87 years old. Mrs. Roberts retired from active ministries in the early 80s and was a member of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Newfoundland. Predeceased by husband, George; brothers, Reg Butler, Harold Butler and Bert Vinham. Left to mourn sons, Harold (wife, Pearl) of Guelph, Ont., David (wife, Sharon) of Waterloo, Ont.; Dwight of Fort McMurray, Alberta; daughter, Ruth (husband, Scott Kinden) of Guelph, Ont. Also leaving to mourn brothers, John Butler, Calvin Whalen; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor Gary Andrews and Pastor Elaine Rideout conducted funeral services at Windsor Pentecostal Church, Grand Falls-Windsor, Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009. Interment was at Interfaith Cemetery, Grand Falls-Windsor. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Harold Roberts, David Roberts, Dwight Roberts, Scott Kinden, Bill Butler and Ryan Roberts.

SIMMONS, Robert G. (1958 - 2009) - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Robert Gilbert Simmons announce his passing at Central Newfoundland Health Care Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, on January 11, 2009 at the age of 50. Bob is predeceased by father, Albert; sisters, Harriet Parrott, Janet Duhart and brother, Reginald Simmons. Left with fond and loving memories is his common law wife, Beulah Wall and son, Dylan both of Buchans. Also leaving to mourn is his mother, Pearl Simmons; sisters, Marie (Derek) Short, Violet (Jim) Gilmour; brothers, Roy Simmons and Dennis Simmons as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Envoys Graham and Beth King conducted the funeral service at the Salvation Army Citadel in Buchans on January 17, 2009. Interment was at the Buchans Community Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jim Maidment of Central Funeral Homes.

TEMPLE, Marie Elizabeth (1925 - 2009) - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Marie Temple announce her passing at the Health Science Centre, in St. John's, on January 19, 2009, at the age of 83. Marie was a member of the Altar Society. She is predeceased by her mother, Susanah Walsh (nee Hogan); father, John Walsh; husband, Ralph Temple; daughter, Karen Temple; brothers, Herb and Ray. Left with fond and loving memories are her six sons, Terry (Marlene) of Charlottetown, PE., Paul of Macau, China, Wade (Andrea) of Dartmouth, NS, Gary (Joanne) of Welland, ON, Sean (Sharon) of Niagara Falls, ON, Glen of Bishop's Falls, NL; daughters, Beverly (Donald Hunter) of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, Roxanne Temple (Tony Azzopardi) of Toronto, ON, Cynthia (Tim Winker) of Welland, ON; two sisters, Josephine and Anne; one brother, Johnny; grandchildren, Benny, Sharon, Tommy, Philip, Caitlyn, Madeline, Hannah, Anthony, Skylar, Miranda, Johnny, Troy, Christopher, Rebecca, Brendan, Bobby, Nicole, Timothy, Alexander, and Courtney and several great-grandchildren. TOBIN, Gordon - It is with sadness that the families of the late Gordon Tobin announce his passing at the Carmelite House Senior Citizens Home, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on Jan. 7, 2009. Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Madeline Tobin; sisters, Margaret (Maggie) Duffy and Edith Anderson; brothers, Bill, Michael and Martin. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are wife, Yvonne; daughters, Edith (Barry) Mercer of Grand Falls-Windsor, Lisa (David) Joe of Conne River; son, Gordon (Sylvia) of Grand Falls-Windsor; grandchildren, Mandy, Martin and Melissa; great-granddaughter, Mya Healey; brother, Gerald; special nephew, Mike; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. TROKE, Alexander - It is with sadness that the families of the late Alexander Troke announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, January 10, 2009, aged 94 years. Predeceased by his wife, Lillian; parents, Alan and Sophia Troke; sister, Marion Forward. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are sons, Alan (Patricia) Troke and Thomas (Catherine) Troke; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Lavinia Burden and a circle of relatives and friends. The funeral service took place Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009 at 10 a.m. from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Union Street, Grand Falls-Windsor. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor.

VARDY, Hazel - Passed peacefully away Jan. 4, 2009, at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Grand Falls-Windsor, Hazel Vardy. She was 81 years of age. Predeceased by father and mother, Byron and Ida Barnes; brother, Onslow Barnes. Left to mourn are husband, Wallace; sons, Leroy (wife, Lucy) of Grand Bank, Onslow (wife, Eileen) of Grand Falls-Windsor; Ellison (wife, Marie) of Marystown; daughter, Donna (husband, Alfred) Lundrigan of Parkers Cove. Also leaving to mourn brother, Otto Barnes; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Charles Harris conducted funeral services at St. Alban's Anglican Church, Grand Falls-Windsor, Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009. Interment was at St. Alban's Anglican Church Cemetery, Grand Falls-Windsor. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were grandsons Tony Vardy, Brandon Lundrigan, Evan Lundrigan, Clifford Vardy; nephew, Clyde Vardy; and friend, Dale Rideout.

VOUTIER, Violet Leone - Passed away at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, January 5, 2009, She was 76 years of age. Predeceased by husband, Donald Voutier Sr.; brother, Allan; sister Mary; sons, Robert (Angela) of Brandon, MB, Donald Jr. (Molly) of Bishop Falls; daughters, Nellie (Ed Dwyer) of Phillip's Head, Jocelyn (Winston Peddle) of Bishops Falls and Kim of Fairview, AB. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Ruby (Ron Callahan), Daisy (Albert Carter), Jean (Victor Fildes), Madeline (Phil Ford); brothers, Tom Reid (Shieley), Don (Dot), Cecil (Donna), Fred (Ina), Art; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Majors Don and Karen Feltham conducted the funeral service on January 9, 2009 at the Salvation Army Citadel, Bishop's Fall's. Interment was at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Bishop's Falls. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Bishop's Falls. Pallbearers were Don Reid, Tom Reid, Ron Callahan, Phil Ford, Fabian Power and Rob Fildes.
