ALYWARD, Edith May (1914–2008) – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Edith May Alyward announce her peaceful passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on Nov. 20, 2008 at the age of 94, after a short illness. Edith is predeceased by her husband, Lawrence in 1986; parents, Hubert and Beatrice White; brothers, Thomas, Stephen, Victor, Adolphus and George; sisters, Caroline, Janet, Greta and Pearl. Left with fond and loving memories are sons, Don (Marg) of Corner Brook, Roger of Grand Falls-Windsor; daughters, Betty Roberts of Grand Falls-Windsor and Joyce Rose (Russell) of Midland, ON. Also leaving to mourn are brother, Roland (Vern) White of Mount Pearl; three grandchildren, Anne (Mike) Young of Grand Falls-Windsor, Mark Roberts of St. John’s and Astra Rose of Midland, ON. Father William Hearn conducted the Funeral Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Monday, Nov. 24, 2008. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Mike Young, Kieran Griffin, Gary Moore, Matt Grouchy, Harvey Beson and Fred Barry. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Mike Goodyear of Central Funeral Homes.

BEATON, Charles Raymond – Passed peacefully away on Nov. 12, 2008 at the Twin Town Manor, Grand Falls-Windsor Charles Raymond Beaton of Norris Arm. He was 73 years of age. Predeceased by parents, Ernest and Alice Beaton. Left to mourn with fond memories are his sister, Angela Pinsent and brother, Fred Beaton, also other relatives and friends. Father Edward Brophy conducted funeral services from Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Norris Arm on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008. Interment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Norris Arm. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hoskins Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Don Freeman, Junior Vickers, Len Higgins, Ray Smith, Pearce Saunders and Sheldon Pinsent.

BOWERS, William Cecil – Passed away after a short illness, William Cecil Bowers at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s. He was 78 years of age. Mr. Bowers retired from Abitibi-Price in 1990. Predeceased by parents, Cecil and Maude; son, Keith; brothers, George, Arthur, Chester, Fred Poole; sister, Jessie Green. Left to mourn are, wife, Uldine; sons, William (Rona Pynn), Robert, (Jasmine Sadler), Barry (Debbie Toope) Larry, Darrin (Diane Murphy); daughters, Linda (Carl Hudson), Marilyn, Donna (David Hoyles) and Brenda (David Curtis). Also leaving to mourn, daughters-in-law, Judy Shepherd, Barbara Foster; sisters, Roberta, Leona, Pearl, Myrtle; and brothers, Harold and Reginald; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor Gary Andrews conducted funeral services at Windsor Pentecostal Church, Tuesday, November 4, 2008. Interment was at Windsor Pentecostal Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by Hoskins Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were sons, William, Robert, Barry, Larry, Darrin and son-in-law, David Curtis. Honorary pallbearers were friend, Sydney Butler; grandsons, Jonathan Hoyles, Joshua Hudson, Daniel Hoyles, Jacob Hoyles, Benjamin Hoyles.

BRENTON, Linda (nee Earle) - June 30, 1962 - November 11, 2008 - It is with great sadness that the families of the late Linda Brenton announce her passing at the Hugh Twomey Health Centre, Botwood, aged 46. Predeceased by parents, Fredrick & Mildred Earle and niece Tracey. Left to mourn with fond loving memories; are husband, Hector; daughters, Melinda (Wallace) and Victoria; son, Leonard; grandchildren, Chloe, Colby, Elsie and Kimberly; brothers, Brian (Margaret), Roland (Peggy), Guy, Eugene (Loretta); sisters, Eileen, Patsy (Danny), Mary (Craig) and Madeline; nephews, Shannon, Justin, Myles, Cruz, Jonathan and Michael; nieces, Terri-Lynn, Ashley, Stacey, Camellia, Kassandra, Kallie, and Chelsie; Uncle Bert (Francis) Cave. BRIDGER, John - Passed peacefully away on Nov. 20, 2008 at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre, John Noah Bridger of Botwood. He was 79 years of age. Mr. Bridger retired from fishing in 1992 and was a member of St. James Anglican Church. Predeceased by wife, Effie, June 19, 2007; son, Carl Mangrove, August 13, 2008. Left to mourn are sons, Kirby Brown (Linda) of Jackson’s Arm, Roy Mangrove (Phyllis) of St. Lewis, Labrador, Cliff Mangrove (Diane) of Sexsmith, Alberta, Rex Mangrove of St. John’s; daughters, Lorraine (Cyril Folkes) of Bedford, NS, Marie (Michael Wallace) of New Glasgow, NS, Gloria (fiancee, Clyde Boyd) of St. John’s, and Gladys (Lorne Roach) of Botwood. Also leaving mourn are 28 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Simms, Grace Ollerhead, Bernice Lush, and Louise Hedderson and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. BURRY, Edgar G. - Aug. 4, 1921 - Nov. 15, 2008 - It is with sadness that the families of the late Edgar Burry announce his passing at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Centre, Botwood, NL, aged 85 years. Predeceased by his wife, Florence; parents, Edward and Eunice Burry, brothers, David and Oliver; sisters, Margaret & Rita. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are daughters, Bernice (Jack) Kulczycki of Ontario, Daphney (Ronald) Thomas of Ontario, Myrtle (Ray) Pelley of Botwood, NL, Carol-Ann (Norman) Randell of Botwood, NL, Juanita (Calvin) Pope of Botwood, NL, and Sean (Ruth) Burry of Botwood, NL; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Baxter (Jean), Edward (Barbara); sisters, Myrtle Rees, Evlyn Evans and Rhoda (Junior) Callahan; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. BUTLER, Mary Ellen (nee Rideout) – With great sadness and loss, the Butler family announces the passing of a very special and dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary Ellen Butler. Following a short illness, and surrounded by her loving family, she entered into the presence of God on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor. Mary was above all, a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was as well, a life-long member and distinguished pianist with the Windsor Pentecostal Assemblies. Her faith in God was foremost in her everyday life. Left with many cherished memories and inspired by her love and devotion, she leaves to mourn her lift-time partner, soulmate and loving husband, Sidney, of 56 years; children, Cheryl (Roland Beaton), Joan (Walter Hodder), Judi (Daniel Blackmore), Roma (Freeman White), Glen (Christine), Scott (Tena) and Beverly (Peter Rockwood); her grandchildren, Geoff and Kerri, Greg and Marc, Stephanie, Daniel and Sydney, Philip and Ashley, Reitta, Sarah, Kenneth, Benjamin and Issac, Stuart, Nadine and Erin; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Emma, Lauren, Joshua, Sophia, Liam and Ava; sister, Hazel Kelly, sisters-in-law, Eva Waterman (Cyril) and Ruth Porter, as well as a wide circle of other relatives and friends. GILES, Hazel Jane (nee Hillyard)
March 1, 1914 - November 5, 2008

Passed peacefully away at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook on Wednesday November 5, 2008, Hazel Giles of Grand Falls-Windsor, aged 94 years. Hazel is predeceased by husband, Charles (1978), and daughter, Cynthia (1984); sisters; Laura Hillyard; Grace Hillyard, Priscilla Mercer; brothers, Samuel Hillyard, William Hillyard and George Hillyard. Leaving to mourn one son, Robert (Patricia) of Corner Brook; six grandchildren,, Sarah (Halifax); Susanne (Corner Brook); Charles (Edmonton), Susan White (St. John’s); Sonya White (Toronto) and Scott White (Edmonton); two great-grandchildren, Josh and Callie. Also very special nephew and niece Robert and Betty Hillyard; along with a large number of other nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Funeral service took place at the Memorial United Church in Grand Falls-Windsor, on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. As an expression of sympathy donations in her memory may be made to the Memorial United Church in Grand Falls-Windsor, or Daffodil Place in St. John’s. GUSHUE, Mary Ann (nee Knee) – Oct. 4, 1924–Nov. 17, 2008 – Passed peacefully away Monday, Nov. 17, 2008 at Bethany Place in the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook, Mary Ann Gushue, at the age of 83 years. Left with loving memories are her son, G. Gary (Wanda) of Irishtown; daughter, Wanda of Pasadena; grandchildren, Amanda (Spencer) of Montreal, James (Nikki) of Toronto, Liam (Genna and little Marley) of London and Patricia (Brendan) of Regina. She also leaves behind her sister, Stella Welcher; in-laws, Sandra Gushue, George and Karen Gushue, Emmie and Cyril Piercey, Leah Knee and Francis (Don) Turner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews (with special thanks to Bill). She was predeceased by and now reunited with her parents, brothers, sister, her husband, Robert Ira Gushue, her son-in-law, J. Christopher Dennis and her dear friend, Elsie Rideout. Visitations took place from St. John the Divine Anglican Church, Buchans, Nov. 18, 2008 where a service of celebration was held Wednesday, Nov. 19, with Rev. Randy Lockyer officiating. HANN, Edwin Isaiah (1925-2008) - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Edwin Isaiah Hann announce his passing at the Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor on November 10, 2008 at the age of 82. Edwin is predeceased by his parents Parmenus and Mary Hann. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife Ruby; sons Terry (Alvina) of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL., Edwin (Joanne) of Kentucky, USA; and daughter Mary (Robert) Folkes of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. Also leaving to mourn are grandchildren Terry Jr., Trevor, Deidre and Robyn. Reverend Royden Reynolds conducted the funeral service at the Memorial United Church on November 12, 2008. HUNTER, Vincent – Passed peacefully away on November 30, 2008, Vincent Hunter of Grand Falls-Windsor at the James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander at the age of 91. Predeceased by wife, Caroline and grandson, Darryn. Left to mourn are sons, Scott (Nancy) of Grand Falls-Windsor and Derrick (Sheila) of Grand Falls-Windsor and daughter, Joan (Dave Wells) of Ship Cove; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. JACKSON, James P. - August 18, 1933 - October 31, 2008 – It is with sadness that the families of the late James Jackson announce his passing at the Carmelite House Senior Citizens' Home, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, aged 75. Predeceased by parents, Malcolm and Dorothy Jackson. Left to mourn with fond loving memories are; wife, Nancy; sons, Roger and Colin; daughter, Violet (Monty) Stagg; grandchildren, Andrew Jackson, Shane Stagg and Justin Stagg; brothers, Warrick (Agnes), Jay (Geraldine), Melrose (Phyllis) and Roger (Marie); sisters, Margaret (Don) Legge, Judy (Percey) Chislett, Emily (Alex) Harnum, Carol-Ann, (Clarence) Precoor; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. JUDGE, William Joseph (1927-2008) - Surrounded by his wife and children, William Joseph Judge passed peacefully away on November 10, 2008. He was 81 years old. Bill worked as a powerhouse operator at the mill in Grand Falls-Windsor, retiring in 1988 after 41 years of service. He served in active duty in Korea with the Royal Canadian Regiment (1950-1953); and, he was an active member of the Grand Falls-Windsor Legion, Branch 12. Bill was predeceased by parents, Mary and Joseph Judge; sister, Helen (Penton); and brothers, Jim and Joe Judge. Left to celebrate his life with fond and loving memories are his wife Vera (Janes); his daughters, Donna (Hal Daley) of Vineland, Ontario; Debbie (Derek Morrissey) of Steady Brook, NL; and Judy Judge of Rundu, Namibia; his granddaughters, Shauna (Daley-Pennock) and Lynn Daley; his grandsons, Mark Morrissey, Stephen Morrissey and Scott Daley; his great-grandsons, Owen and Luke Pennock; his sisters Eileen (Wakeham) and Mary (Hirst); brother, Edward (Ned); his many nieces and nephews, and a large circle of friends and relatives. LEE, Clotilda "Clo" (Nee Kelly) - September 6, 1915 - November 2, 2008 – Passed peacefully away November 2, 2008 in the presence of her loving family Clotilda "Clo" Lee (Nee: Kelly) at The Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, age 93 years. The last surviving member of the Gregory Francis Kelly and Mary Ann Cooke Kelly family. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are daughters, Shirley (Gerald) Foley and Bernadette (Dennis) Power of Grand Falls-Windsor, NL; granddaughter, Michelle (Travis) Foley Clarke of Edmonton, Alberta; sister-in-law, Anne Kelly Hanlon and a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Predeceased by her first husband, Eugene "Gene" Long in 1939, second husband, Edward "Ned" Lee in 1994; parents, Gregory Francis Kelly and Mary Ann (Cooke) Kelly; sisters, Anne Cardoulis, Bride Philpott, Margaret McLoughlan, Dorothy Kelly, Genevieve Williams, Lillian Murphy; twin sister, Mary O’Leary; brother, Lewis G. Kelly. Visitation took place Monday, November 3, 2008 at 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 11 a.m. from St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Grand Falls Windsor, NL with internment at the Interfaith Cemetery, Union Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL with Father William Houlahan officiating. MARSHALL, Thomas A. (1954 - 2008) – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Thomas A. Marshall announce his passing at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s on November 18, 2008 at the age of 53. Tom was a member of the Buchans Town Council. He was employed at the Duck Pond Mine, Millertown. He is predeceased by his father William Marshall. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife, Lydia and son Jody Higdon (Sheena) of Dartmouth, N.S. Also leaving to mourn are brother Jerry (Tina) of Acton, ON, Rob (Tracy) of Slave Lake, AB; sisters Debbie of St. John’s, NL, Melinda (Renee) of St. John’s, NL, Lisa (Jerry) of Bishop’s Falls, NL; nephews Robert, Ian and Grant and Lucas; nieces Jillian, along with a large circle of relatives and friends. Rev. Raymond Cole conducted the funeral service at Central Funeral Homes Chapel on Friday, November 21, 2008. Cremation has taken place and his ashes scattered as per his wishes. MARTIN, Maurice - Passed peacefully away at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Centre, Botwood on November 18, 2008, Maurice Martin of Glovers Harbour. He was 76 years of age. Mr. Martin retired from Abitibi Price and was a member of the Salvation Army Glovers Harbour Corps and Men’s Fellowship Club, Glovers Harbour. Left to mourn are his wife, Irene; sons, Calvin (Exie) of Leading Tickles and Arch of Glovers Harbour; daughters, Karen (Wayne) of Robinsons, Cora (Perry) of Botwood, Maria (Tony) of Blackfalds, AB. Also leaving to mourn are his grandchildren, Gary (Regina), Abigail, Kaitlyn and Cayden; nine brothers and four sisters and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Majors Leslie and Bessie Barrow conducted funeral services from the Salvation Army Citadel, Glovers Harbour on Friday, November 21, 2008. Interment at the Community Cemetery, Glovers Harbour. MCLENNON, Joseph Francis – Passed peacefully away on November 9, 2008 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Care Centre, Joseph Francis McLennon of Grand Falls-Windsor. He was 47 years of age. Predeceased by Lot Hancock. Left to mourn are his spouse, Marguerite Anstey; sons, Doug (April), Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, Shane (Nicole), Gagetown, NB. Also leaving to mourn parents, Edgar and Edna McLennon; sisters, Ella Warren (Craig), Sharon Smith (Geoff); brothers, Dave (Rhonda), Gerard (Michelle), Fred Hancock, Keith Hancock (Gail), Harold Hancock (Andrea), Darryl Hancock, Chris Hancock (Crystal); one granddaughter, Carly and a large circle of other relatives and friends. O’LEARY (NEE BARNES), Frances Marguerite – Passed peacefully away on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Frances O’Leary at the age of 79 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband, Paul O’Leary Sr.; daughters, Joan (Don), Corner Brook, Helen, Grand Falls-Windsor, Irene (Neil), Paradise, Christine (Terry), Mount Pearl and Theresa, St. John’s; sons, Paul (Daphne), Cow Head, Sean (Helen), St. John’s, Robert (Patricia), St. John’s; 12 grandchildren, Brian, Jason, Angela, Jessica, Stephen, Vanessa, David, Meghan, Caroline, Nicholas, Joseph and Laura; seven great-grandchildren, Zachary, Elise, Chloe, Emily, Kaylee, Kalan and Logan; sister, Jean Reckling; and brother, Kenneth Barnes; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. OSMOND, Cecil Thomas – Passed peacefully away after a lengthy illness, Cecil Thomas Osmond at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre, Botwood. Mr. Osmond was 76 years of age and retired from the scrap metal business in 1997. PELLEY, Gary Brian – Passed peacefully away into the presence of the Lord after a lengthy illness on Nov. 17, 2008, Gary Brian Pelley, at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre, Botwood. He was 49 years of age. Mr. Pelley was employed with Abitibi-Consolidated until 2006. Predeceased by parents, Howard and Georgina Pelley. Left to mourn are wife Eleanor; son, Luke; and daughter, Bethany. Also leaving to mourn brothers, Donald (Sheila) and John (Ruth) and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastors Fraser Roberts, Shannon Meade and Victor Rowsell conducted funeral services at the Jubilee Pentecostal Temple in Botwood, Nov. 19, 2008. Interment was at the Jubilee Temple Cemetery, Botwood. PEYTON, Hughie Stine Owen – Born May 6, 1935 to Eli and Lucretia Peyton of Norris Arm. Passed peacefully away at home on Nov 8, 2008 following a brief illness; in death as in life surrounded by love. Beloved husband of 51 years to Elizabeth (Betty Kennedy). Father to Robert (Jennifer), Gwen (Paul Daly), Linda (John Morrissey) and Elizabeth (Brad Chatfield) and Poppy to Peyton, Luke, Sean, Thomas, Liam and Zachary. POWER, Edward P. (Ted) – The family of Edward P. (Ted) Power regret to announce his passing on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008 at the age of 72. He is predeceased by parents, Cecil I. and Ellen; brothers, Vincent, George and Cecil T. and sister, Patricia. He leaves to mourn four daughters, one son, one step-son, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; brothers, Philip (Sheila), Leo (Anne), Paul (Sarah); sisters, Rosemary (Kevin Burke), Helene (Gerard O'Leary), Nellie, Christine (Alan Mess); sisters-in-law, Catherine Power and Annetta Power, numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. ROWSELL, Ralph (1921 - 2008) – It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ralph Rowsell announce his passing at home in Grand Falls-Windsor on November 23, 2008 at the age of 87. Ralph was a member of the Salvation Army. He retired from Abitibi Price in 1984 with 43 years of service. Ralph is predeceased by his wife of 60 years May (Groves); parents Eliakim and Elizabeth Rowsell; sister Bernice; brothers Chesley, Cecil, and Roy. SPARKES, Wayne Kenneth – Passed away suddenly on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008 at his home in Brampton, Ont. in his 47th year, Wayne Kenneth Sparkes, beloved son of the late Cecil and Violet (nee White) Sparkes. Loving father of Catherine and Jesse; loving brother of Clarence Sparkes and his wife, Donna, Melvin Sparkes, Shirley and her husband, Nelson Cole, Rita and her husband, Gary Uhlman, Ruby and her husband Richard Plumley, Sandra Schroeder, Neil Sparkes and Gloria Casey, Sharon and her husband, Gary Arsenault, and Catherine (Kate) Howse. TIANO, Bonnie (1961-2008) – Bonito Georgina Mary Tiano (Mercer), aged 47, passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008. She was born in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland, daughter of the late James and Mary Mercer. Bonnie is the loving mother of Frankie Tiano; dear sister of Marg Oliver, Helen Mills (Ron), Blanche McKibbon (Dave), Pats Peddle (Hubert), Jim Mercer (Brenda), Loretta Easton (Ivan), Joanne Verre (John), Paul Mercer (Diane), Sandie Huxter (Rodney), Bobbie O’Dell, and Greg Mercer (Megan). Lovingly remembered by her husband, Dominic Tiano and his mother, Maria Tiano, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and her dog Bailey. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sister-in-law, Patti Mercer, a brother-in-law, Wilfred Oliver and by her father-in-law, Frank Tiano. She was a member of the Memorial United Church in Grand Falls-Windsor. Marguerite was predeceased by parents, Paul and Pearl Temple and brother, Ralph Temple.
