STRICKLAND, Charlotte Ann
Age 83 years

Beloved Mother of Josie (Henry) Spencer, Dartmouth, NS, grandmother to Myles (Glenda), Somburg, ON, Michael (Trina), Dartmouth, NS, Daryl (Nancy), Coal Harbour, NS, great-grandmother to Julie, Adam, Amy, Karen and Courtney, passed away in her sleep at Mountain Hope Manor on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004. She was born April 4, 1921 in Cul de Sac West to the late George and Katherine (MacDonald) Spencer. She moved to Rose Blanche at an early age where she married the late Clem Strickland and had two children, Roland and Josie, and in 1953 moved to Port aux Basques where she continued to be a good mother and wife. She is predeceased by her son Ronnie; brothers, Harvey and Steve Spencer and Ivan Currie. Surviving are her sisters, Katie Walters, Dartmouth, NS, Nina (Norman) Cutler, Ramea; brother, George (Edith) Spencer Steady Brook, special daughter-in-law, Elsie Strickland, Port aux Basques and sisters-in-law, Greta Spencer, Port aux Basques and Ada Spencer, Prospect, NS; special friend Gloria (AuCoin) Spencer, Lower Sackville, NS, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation took place on Friday, Dec. 3, and Saturday, Dec. 4, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques. The funeral service was held on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004 from St. James' Anglican Church, Port aux Basques with Rev. Hugh Fudge and Rev. George Critchell officiating. Interment followed in St. James' Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill, Port aux Basques. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques 695-2300.

CARTER, Isaac William
Age 75 years

Passed peacefully away at the Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques on Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, Isaac William Carter of Port aux Basques age 75 years. He was predeceased by his parents James and Julia (Savory) Carter; brothers, Robert and Eric Carter; sisters, Susie Carter and Pearl Hynes. Left with fond and precious memories are his wife of 55 years, Geraldine (Bateman); sons, Alex (Anne Marie) St. John's, Kenneth (Sharon) Port aux Basques, Janice (Gerald) Greene, Jocelyn (David) Gillam, Holly (Brian) Farrell all of Port aux Basques; six grandchildren, Kimberly, Keith, Mark, Melanie, Kenneth and Michael; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Marcus; his sisters, Margaret Fraser, Port aux Basques, Mary Pike, Port aux Basques, Dolly LeValliant, Lower Sackville, NS, Maude Kendall, Halifax, NS; brother Maxwell Carter, Port aux Basques and a wide circle of family and friends. Visitation was held at East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 7 and 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004 at 2 p.m. from St. James' Anglican Church, Port aux Basques, with Reverend Hugh Fudge officiating. Interment followed in St. James' Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. Funeral arrangements entrusted to East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques 695-2300.

ANDERSON, Leonard
Codroy, NL

The family of the late Leonard Anderson sadly announced his passing at the Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre Long Term Care Unit on Friday, Dec. 10 in his 60th year. Leonard was predeceased by his parents, Pius and Gertrude Anderson; brothers, David and Tom and sister, Trudy. Leonard leaves to mourn four brothers, Frank (Noreen), Mike (Mary), Eli (Helen), Ron (Rita) and four sisters, Winnie, Louise (Stu), Margaret (Gus) and Marie (Geoff); nieces, nephews and a large circle of family and friends. The funeral service took place on Monday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Anne’s Parish Church, Upper Ferry, with Father Lee Lainey officiating. Interment followed at Mount St. Thomas Cemetery, Great Codroy. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home, Port aux Basques. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Long Term Care Unit would be greatly appreciated.

Age 79

We regret to announce the passing of a dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at the QEII Health Science Centre in Halifax, NS. Born on May 15, 1925 he was the son of the late Israel and Alfreda (Dicks) Lillington. He is survived by sons, Thomas and Richard (Una) of Port aux Basques and daughter Marilyn (David) Underhill of Lower Sackville, NS and sister Dorothy “Dolly” Stansbury (Ontario), along with loved and cherished grandchildren, Wayne (Minnie), Shawn (Christine), Trina (Hayden), Natasha (Earl), Staci (Johnny), Theresa and Jamie and six great-grandchildren Brittany, Gregory, Katie, Kyle, Zachary and Isabella. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years Mary, son Gary, sisters, Minnie, Ivy, Martha, brother Herbert and siblings in infancy. Arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre’s Funeral Home 134 Main Street Port aux Basques. Family accepted visitors at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, December 18, 2004 with funeral service on Sunday, December 19, 2004at 2 p.m. from St. James’s Anglican Church where interment followed in St. James’ Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. MCDONALD, Francis (Frank)
age 62 years

Passed peacefully away on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, Frank McDonald of Port aux Basques age 62 years. He is predeceased by his parents, George and Rita McDonald; and by his brother, Don McDonald. Left with fond and precious memories are his wife, Shirley (Keeping); special nephew, Jason (Lori Ann) Keeping and their children, Jason, Joshua and Emma; sisters, Patsy (Winston) Stead, Geraldine, Helen and Pauline McDonald, all of Melrose, Trinity Bay; his brothers, Mark and Kevin McDonald of Melrose, Trinity Bay, brothers in law, Herbert Keeping, Gerald (Betty) Keeping and Morgan (Marina) Keeping, all of Port aux Basques, as well as nieces, nephews  other relatives and friends. Visitation took place on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 16 and 17 at East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques. Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 from St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Port aux Basques with Father Lee Lainey and Rev. Hugh Fudge officiating. Interment followed in St. James' Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. Funeral arrangements entrusted to East Haven Funeral Home, Port aux Basques 695-2300.

PIKE, Vivian Annie
(1956 - 2004)

Passed away peacefully at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on Thursday Dec. 16, 2004, Vivian Annie Pike of Port aux Basques at the age of 48 years. Born at West Point, NL she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Beatrice Riles of Port aux Basques. She leaves to mourn with fond memories, her loving husband, Robert of 29 years marriage; two children, Sue-Ann (Elias Ingram), son Paul, grandson Denver and mother-in-law Carrie Pike of Port aux Basques; brothers and sisters, Elsie (Junior) Wall North Sydney, NS, Angus (Mildred) Riles Louisbourg, NS, Fred (Jean) Riles Cape Ray, NL, Charlie (Dulcie) Riles Port aux Basques, NL, Ethel (Winston) Organ LaPoile, NL, Ivy (Chris) Romig Philadelphia, USA, Shirley Riles (Lou Osmond) Port aux Basques, NL, Clarence Riles Louisbourg, NS, Gerald (Dawn) Riles British Colombia, Connie (John) Kinslow Halifax, NS, Keith Riles (Dana Boudreau) Louisbourg, NS, Darlene Riles (Phil Button) Port aux Basques, NL; brothers and sisters-in-law, Faye (Melvin) Keeping Port aux Basques, Arlene (Gary) Hollett Port aux Basques, Derek (Kim) Pike Grand Falls, NL, Genevieve (Dave) Lawrence Lower Sackville, NS, Kim (Darrell) Ford Corner Brook, NL and a large circle of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Cremation took place on Friday Dec. 17, 2004. A memorial service took place on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at St. James' Anglican Church, Port aux Basques, officiated by Rev. Hugh Fudge. DURNFORD, Rita Blanche (Green)
Isle aux Morts
Age 81

It is with great sadness that we, the family of the late Rita Blanche Durnford, announce her passing at the Charles LeGrow Health Centre on Dec. 24, 2004. Born on May 30, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Benjiman and Sarah Green. She is survived by her six children, Annie (Winter) Billard, Joan (Willard) Baggs, Elizabeth (Bernie) Walters, Garfield (Linda), Hilda (John W.) Coleman and June (Jim) Scott all of Isle aux Morts along with 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two sisters and a brother, besides her husband Alexander. She was predeceased by three sisters and a brother. Family received visitors at Holy Spirit Anglican Church, Isle aux Morts on Dec. 25, 26 and 27, where a funeral service also took place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, with Rev. H. Vallis officiating. Interment followed in Hillside Haven Cemetery. The guest book may be signed through our website at www.fillatre.ca

THORNE, Jerry
60 years

Passed away suddenly at the Health Sciences Centre on Dec. 27, 2004, Jerry Thorne aged 60 years. Predeceased by his parents, John Matthew and Irene Thorne of Burnt Islands; father-in-law, George Denty of Boat Harbour West and special friend, Max Thornhill. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, wife, Mary (Denty); son, Christopher; mother-in-law, Edith Denty (Boat Harbour West); brothers, Percy (Bernadine), Theodore (Susie), John (Wanda); sisters, Isabella Lericke (Jim), Dorothy Parsons (Cecil); brother-in-law, Bradley Denty (Laura), Norman Denty (Sharon); 13 nieces and nephews, special niece, Shelly Denty; special godchild, Keeran Bonia; aunts, Evelyn Keeping, Miriam Edmunds and Myrtle Thorne. Also a large number of relatives and friends, along with very special friend and companion Sparky. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29 and 8-10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30. Funeral service was held at St. Mark's Anglican Church on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004 at 11 a.m. with interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery Kenmount Road. LERICHE, Roy Phillip
age 58

Passed away peacefully at Rouge Valley Centinuary Hospital at Scarborough, ON, Dec. 30, 2004, Roy LeRiche age 58. He is predeceased by his father Phillip W. LeRiche, brother Robert S. LeRiche and nephew Darren LeRiche. He leaves to mourn his mother Dorothy, brothers, Cecil and Wilfred (Gloria) all of Port aux Basques, Don (Donnie) of Ottawa, ON, Steve (Denise) of Cornwall, ON, sisters, Clara Blake (Whylie) and Florence Melo (Rui) both of Burlington, ON, Norma and Renee of Port aux Basques, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses of Rouge Valley Centinuary Hospital for taking such good care of him. His remains will be brought home in the summer of 2005 for burial at St. James' Anglican Cemetery at Barachois Hill.
