KENDELL, Edna Bertha
November 30, 1939 - February 21, 2017

The love of a mother is like the love of no other, she is the woman who gives us life, nurtures us, protects us, but most of all loves us unconditionally. She worried about us both day and night and whatever went wrong she could always make right. We have many wonderful memories with which we will never part, you will always go on living tucked safely inside our hearts. It is with heavy hearts that we the family of the late Edna Kendall (nee Lillington) announces her peaceful passing surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday February 21, at Dr. Charles L. Legrow Health Centre at the age of 77 years. Born in Port aux Basques, Edna was the daughter of the late George and Florence Lillington. She was also predeceased by her husband David Lewis Kendall in 2007, father and mother in law Lewis and Nora Kendall, sisters; Carrie (Percy) Ramsay, Phyllis Keeping, sisters in law; Jean Donaldson, Florence Shears, brothers in law; Andrew Kendall, Edward Kendall, Basil Kendall, James Knavel and James Kean. Loving mother of Cathy (Clarence) Leamon, Loretta (Kevin) Osmond, David (Wanda) Kendall, Michael Kendall (Viola Skinner) all of Port aux Basques. A proud grandmother and great grandmother she will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren; Heather (Jason) MacDonald, Bradley Kendall (Stephanie Taylor) and Hillary Kendall and the apple of her eye her great grandson Dennis Kendall whom she adored. She will forever remain in the hearts of her sisters and brothers; Lillian Knavel, Gertie Kean, Loretta (Hughie) Osmond, George Lillington (Myrtle Greeley), Gordon (Betty) Lillington, brother in law Monford Keeping and a large circle of nieces, nephews and many friends. Visitation took place on Wednesday February 22 from 7-9 pm and continued on Thursday February 22 from 2-4 and 7-9- pm at East Haven Funeral Home Inc. The funeral service took place on Friday February 24, 2 pm at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Grand Bay officiated by Rev. Harold Harvey, interment followed at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. KENDELL, HELENA HANNAH
November 25, 1929- February 20, 2017

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Helena Kendell announces her passing on Monday, February 20, 2017 at Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Center with her loving family by her side, at the age of 87. Born in Woodville, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late John William and Elizabeth Kendell. Helena was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She will be always loved and missed by her daughter, Nora (Greg) Coolen, Dartmouth, NS and son, Leonard (Marie) Kendell, Woodville, daughter-in-law, Sandy Kendell, Beeton, Ontario, 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Dorcas Samms and Marcella Kendell, as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews and friends. She was predeceased by husband, John Kendell, son, John "Jack" Kendell, brothers and sisters in law, Cecil (Helen) Victor (Vera), Edna (Edgar), Gladys (Archibald), Walter (Mabel), Elias, Ernest, Hebert, and Jacob Samms. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 22,2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Church in Codroy. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Codroy officiated by Rev. Harold Harvey, interment will follow at Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery. Flowers graciously accepted or donations in memory of Helena can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. KETTLE, Walter James
(May 2, 1943 - February 1, 2017)
As we reflect on the life of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend our memories of you are what we will hold in our hearts forever. On Wednesday February 1, 2017 the world lost a kind and gentle man as our beloved Walter James Kettle left us way too soon at the age of 73 years. Born in Port aux Basques, Walter was the son of the late Cyril and Olive Kettle, he was also predeceased by his father in law Frederick Walters, brothers in law Gordon Hatch and Charlie Matthews. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of precious memories his devoted wife Nancy (nee Walters) of 52 wonderful years. A proud father, he will be lovingly missed by his children Karen Kettle (David Gibb) of Toronto ON, Randy Kettle (Caroline Allen) of Toronto Ontario, Kim Kettle (Chris Devereaux) of MacDougall's. Poppy will forever remain in the hearts of his grandchildren Amber Kettle and Riley Kettle who meant the world to him. His love for his siblings will always be a reminder to his sisters and brothers that he is never far away from them. Pauline Matthews (Tom Lawrence), Brenda Anderson (Bert), Kevin Kettle (Joyce) and Kenny Kettle will always have many wonderful memories of their big brother that will always keep them close in heart. Walter will also be fondly missed by his mother in law Julie Walters, sister in law Sylvia Hatch and a large circle of nieces, nephews and many wonderful and dear friends. Walter was an avid outdoors man, he loved to hunt and salmon fish and spent many hours doing so. After retiring he and Nancy moved to their second home in MacDougall's and this is where he was happiest. His smile was contagious and lit up the room and anyone who was lucky enough to have been blessed by having Walter in their lives, soon found that they had a friend for life. In keeping with Walters wishes cremation has taken place, The family will be receiving friends at East Haven Funeral Home on Saturday February 4 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A celebration of life will take place on Sunday February 5, 2 pm at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Grand Bay officiated by Rev. Harold Harvey, interment will follow at St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, Trans Canada Highway. Flowers graciously accepted or donations in memory of Walter can be made to the charity of one's choice. MEADE, HAZEL
June 7, 1926 - February 3, 2017

When we think of the time that we have had with you and how blessed we have been to had of been loved by you, we cannot help but smile and thank God for your long and wonderful life. On Friday February 3, our lives were forever changed when our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother sister and friend Hazel Meade passed away peacefully at Dr. Charles L. Legrow Health Center at the age of 90 years surrounded by her loving family. Born in Fox Roost, Hazel was the daughter of the late Horatio and Elizabeth Walters, she was also predeceased by her husband Clarence Meade in 1993, daughter Loretta Vautier in 2007, sisters; Beatrice (Edward) Oake, Gladys (Arminius) Cramm, Bertha (Harold) Dominey, brother in law Wilson Walters, daughter in law Joan Meade and son in law Eldon Harvey. She leaves a legacy of love and laughter to her children; Gordon Meade of Harbour Breton, Lloyd Meade of Fox Roost, Ernest Meade (Jane) of Port aux Basques, Margaret Harvey (Hubert) of Margaree, Joan Harvey of Isle aux Morts, Donald Meade (Ida), Margaree, Clarence Meade (Marion) of Halifax NS, Terry Meade (Maggie) of Margaree. She will also be fondly remembered by her 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild, sister Nora Denver of Ontario, sister in law Jessie Walters of Fox Roost and a large circle of nieces, nephews and many friends. The family received friends at St. Augustine's Anglican Church in Margaree on Sunday February 5, Monday February 6 and Tuesday February 7 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, from where the funeral service took place on Wednesday February 8, 10 am officiated by Rev. Maryrose Colbourne, interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Isle aux Morts Road. Flowers graciously accepted or donations in memory of Hazel can be made to the charity of one's choice. RICHARDS, JOAN
July 22, 1947 - February 14, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joan Richards shares the news of her peaceful passing at the Legrow Health Centre on February 14 at the age of 69. Born and raised in Grand Bay, Joan was the daughter of the late Ernest and Annie Mae Kettle. She was predeceased by mother and father-in-law, Bertha and Harold Richards; her brothers; Wesley, Max and Isaac Kettle and Nelson Myles (known to Joan as Big Nels); her sisters, Ruth Lomond, Phyllis Carpenter, Olive Kettle, Blanche Short, Mary Hardy, Mildred Kettle, and Greta Bishop; brother in laws, Albert Kettle and Fred Lomond. She leaves to mourn her loving husband, Roy, of 48 wonderful years. Joan was a proud mother of Sonya (John) Osmond of Middle Sackville, N.S. and Stephanie (Jamie) Senior of Port aux Basques, N.L. She will be fondly remembered and loved by her grandchildren: Liam Senior and Ross and Karla Osmond who referred to her as Gramm. The love of family extends to her sisters: Sandra Kettle, Edith (Ron) March, Eileen (Ed) Hill, Verena Kettle, Cedella Fraser, and her brother Nelson Kettle, her sister-in-law Maxine (Reg) Frampton, brother in laws, Robert (Golda) Richards, Wayne(Yvonne) Richards and Ralph Hopkins. In addition to her large family, her life would not have been complete without her nieces, nephews and large circle of friends. Her love for sewing can be found in the many quilts and crafts she made over the years. She was lucky enough to travel to many destinations in her life. She spent summers at her cottage in MacDougalls and numerous winters in Myrtle Beach, S.C. soaking up the sunshine. Joan was happiest spending time with friends and family and always found the good in everyone. She will be sadly missed by many. In keeping with Joans' wishes, cremation has taken place. The family received friends at East Haven Funeral Home on Friday February 17, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service took place on Saturday February 18, 2 pm at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Grand Bay, officiated by Rev. Harold Harvey. Also sharing in the service were Rev. Clayton Billard and Rev. Kathleen Anderson. Internment took place at St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, Trans Canada Highway, Port aux Basques. Following the graveside service, the family joined friends for a time of reflection, friendship and fellowship in honour of a wonderful woman who loved the company of her family and friends. This took place at St. Paul's Anglican Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joan can be made to the Wesley United Church 134 Main Street P.O. SHORT, Chesley Robert Nelson
(July 4, 1950 - February 24, 2017)
It is with great sadness & heavy hearts that the family of the late Chesley (Ches) Robert Nelson Short announced his passing at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Center after a courageous battle with cancer on February 24th 2017, at the age of 66 years. He was predeceased by his wife Mildred (2010) and his father Absalom (1975). He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his children daughter Gloria (Nelson) Osmond Grande Prairie, Alberta; his sons Edgar Short and Lawrence Short (Jackie) Cape Ray; his precious grandson Jordan, Port aux Basques; his partner Doreen Strickland and her daughter Allissa Short, his mother Emily (Patey) Short Cape Ray. Brothers Wilson, Steward (Jane), Junior (Shelia), Frank (Carol-Ann) all of Cape Ray and Eugene (Lavina) McDougalls. His sisters Pauline Pearce Oromocto NB; Maisie (Vernon) Cape Ray; Catherine Pye St. John's & Mary (Ennis) Cape Ray; and his furry friend Buddy. He also leaves to mourn Doreen's loving family, her brothers Roland (Carmel) Short, Port aux Basques; Perry Short, Corner Brook, Rick (Rev. Kay Short), Rocky Harbour, her Sisters Lucy (Bob) Ingram, Port aux Basques, Tracey (Austin) Rumbolt, Whitehorse. He also leaves to mourn his brother in-laws James Warren, Cape Ray; Ralph Osmond Cape Ray; James MacIsaac, O'Regans; his sister in laws Linda Warren Cape Ray; Patsy Warren Point Aconi, NS and Betty Osmond Cape Ray and a large circle of friends, nieces, nephews, co-workers and extended family members & friends. Friends may visit East Haven Funeral Home Inc. on Saturday February 25 from 7-9 pm and on Sunday February 26 and Monday February 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday February 28, 2 pm at St. John The Evangelist Church in Cape Ray officiated by Rev. Kay Short, internment will follow at St. John The Evangelist Cemetery. (October 7, 1925 - February 15, 2017)

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Susie Stroud (nee Hannam) announces her peaceful passing at Dr. Charles L Legrow Health Centre on Wednesday February 15 at the age of 91 years. Born in Rose Blanche, Susie was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Hannam. She was also predeceased by her husband William D Stroud, son Gary Stroud, sisters; Marjorie (Harry) Hatcher, Carrie (George) Blagdon and niece Marie Graham. She will be lovingly missed by her only son Raymond (Marion) Stroud of Rose Blanche. A proud grandmother and great grandmother she will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren Gina (Claude) King of Carbonear NL, Tracey Stroud of Halifax NS, great grandchildren Kendra & Kyle Edwards. She will forever remain in the hearts of her special great nephews Paul (Wendy) Graham of Port aux Basques, Scott (Denise) Graham of Corner Brook, John (Gail) Hatcher of St. John's NL and many special friends including those at the complex and Mountain Hope Manor. Private family visitation taking place on Friday, February 17 from 2-4 pm with public visitation continuing on Friday Evening and Saturday, February 18 at St. Micheal's And All Angels Anglican Church from where the funeral service will take place on Sunday, February 19, 2 pm. officiated by Rev. Jeffrey Petten. Interment will follow at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Isle aux Morts Road. Flowers graciously accepted by the family.
