LUEDEE, Calvin (Cal)
1947-2019

It is with love and deep sadness we announce the passing of Calvin (Cal) Luedee of Monarch Hall, formerly Callowhill Road, Riverview on May 25, 2019. Born in Port-aux Basques, NL on October 25, 1947, Cal was the eldest son of the late Joseph and Glenora (Skeard) Luedee. Cal will be missed. He leaves to mourn his wife, Eileen, three daughters: Tahneen Luedee, Talia (Kent) Graham, and Tyla (Kevin) Finlay; four grandchildren: Hayden and Hendrix Finlay; Landon and Lexie Graham. Also, brothers: Ron (Georgina), Mike (Rose), Robert (Pauline) and George; sisters: Bernadette (Brendan) Doyle, Angela (John) DeVoy, Glenora (Bruce) Somers; cousin Chap (Sylvia) Skeard and many nieces and nephews, as well as his in-laws (the Wall family). Aside from his parents, Cal was predeceased by his nephew, Joe Luedee, and his in-laws, Bernard and Adele Wall. While Cal considered his wife of 43 years, Eileen, and his three daughters, his greatest achievements in life, his work was incredibly important to him. Cal really believed in his profession and was so passionate and committed to the Union movement especially the United Steelworkers. He always had the best interest of workers at heart and advanced their interests with vigour, dedication, and principle. He was a man that fought for workers' rights. Cal loved sports, especially his Boston Bruins and Chicago Bears. Cal's other passion was classic vehicles like his 1967 Firebird convertible. A true Newfoundlander to the core, he loved family and friends gathering with lots of food and drink. Self-educated and well-read person, Cal loved to share his knowledge. Cal suffered with Pick's disease for many years and it was a blessing that his vivacious spirit was finally freed. Although, we lost Cal to the ravages of Pick's disease, we felt his connection no matter how the disease advanced. The family is grateful for those friends who visited at his residence, although his condition did not allow him to communicate or show recognition most times. For the staff at Monarch Hall who gave their patient and loving care for the past 2½ years, Cal's family will be forever grateful. The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Cobb's Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, with parish prayers and sharing of memories at 8:30 pm. A funeral mass for Cal's life will be celebrated at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 5 Fatima Drive, Riverview on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 11:00am with Father Charles Broderick presiding. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Interment will be held in Newfoundland at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Cal to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, the MS Society of Canada or a charity of the donor's choice.
What the mind can't remember, the heart never forgets.
