DOWNEY, MARY MARGARET
Mary Margaret Downey
, 82, Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, passed peacefully away on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 in the Home. Born June 8, 1927, in Great Codroy, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late James Alban and Rose Elizabeth (Young) Downey. Margaret was "little Sister" to three older brothers and "big Sister" to four younger brothers. Because of this special status and some health problems, she was loved and cared for by all. Margaret was her mother's helper in caring for the family as well as tending the local post office and telephone central, all of which she thoroughly enjoyed. Her early days at Shiretown Nursing Home were happiest when she was working at crafts, playing cribbage or Bingo. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and trivia games. Margaret was very happy at Shiretown, the staff made sure she as comfortable and helped her to maintain her sense of humour. She enjoyed hearing jokes and then telling them. She also enjoyed reciting poetry and will be remembered for her recitation of "The House with Nobody in It" by Andrew Joyce Kilmer. Surviving are her brother, Ralph Downey, Glengarry; many nieces and nephews, including her only godchild, Jeanette Downey, Ottawa, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Bridget Downey and Lucy Downey, Codroy Valley, Nfld.; long time friend William Skehen who entertained her so often with his piano playing and his singing. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Bertram, Kevin, Fintan, Aloysius, Walter and Robert; nephew, David Alban Downey; sisters-in-law, Jean Downey and Evelyn Downey. The family received visitors from 1-1 :50 p.m., Saturday, October 3 at P and K MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow where funeral service was held at 2 p.m. with Father Peter Macponald presiding. LUSHMAN, MICHAEL
Ramea, NL
1945-2009

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Michael Lushman announce his sudden passing at the Calder Memorial Hospital in Burgeo, on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at the age of 64 years. Michael was predeceased by his father Fred and his brothers Fred and Frank. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Frances; children, Darrell, Caledon, Dale (Cyndi), Lower Sackville, N.S., Lori Cutler (Jason), Dartmouth, N.S., and Lorna Green (Lonnie), Ramea; grandchildren, Summer, Alliyah, Jayden and Ocean; mother, Alice, Grey River; brother Gord, Guelph, Ont.; sisters, Betty Young, Guelph, Ont., Marie Rose (Gerald) and Debbie Lushman (Tom), Grey River, and a large circle of family and friends. The funeral service took place at St. Boniface Anglican Church in Ramea on Monday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m., officiated by Reverend Maryrose Colbourne. Interment followed at the Church Cemetery. CREWE, SUSANNA (SUSIE)
Feb. 21, 1921 - Oct. 10, 2009

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Susie Crewe announces her passing at Dr. Charles L Legrow Health Center on Saturday October 10th, at the age of 88 years. Born at Rose Blanche, Susie was the daughter of the late Isreal and Delilah Hatcher. She was also predeceased by her husband Stanley, sister Alfreda Pink, and brother Jim Hatcher. She leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories her loving family; Jim ( Beatrice) Port aux Basques, Gary (Sheila) Fredericton NB, and Suzanne (Steve) Millar Peterborough ON. Grandchildren; Cindy, Rob, David, Tony, Tara, Ian. Great grandchildren; Nolan, Mariah, Sarah. Brother, Hubert Hatcher of Grand Falls NL, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and many friends especially those from Mountain Hope Manor including the wonderful staff who cared for Susie while she was a resident there. Visitation took place on Sunday from 7-9 PM and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at East Haven Funeral Home. Funeral services took place on Tuesday October 13th, 11 AM at St. James Anglican Church, Channel officiated by Rev. Mary Ann Boote. Interment followed at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. SEYMOUR, MARION SHIRLEY
Aug. 13, 1942 - Oct. 11, 2009

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Marion Shirley Seymour announces her passing on Sunday October 11th, at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville at the age of 67 years. Born at Fox Island NL, Marion was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Cassie Hayman. She was also predeceased by her brother in law, Bert Hayward. She leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories her loving family; husband George of 47 years marriage. Daughters; Denise (Tom) Herritt Isle aux Morts, Wilhelmena (Don) Hardy Stephenville NL. Grandsons; Fraser, Faron (Karen), Jeremy and Philip. Sisters; Marie Hayward Port aux Basques, Wilhelmena (Cyril) Murphy Torbay NL, Mary (Don) Squibb Port aux Basques, Janet (Arch) Kearley Isle aux Morts, Alvina Hayman Killbride NL. Honorary brother George (Margo) Hayman Port aux Basques, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and many friends. Visitation took place on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at Holy Spirit Anglican Church in Isle aux Morts. Following Marion's wishes cremation took place on Thursday October 15th. Funeral services took place on Friday October 16th, 2 PM at Holy Spirit Anglican Church, officiated by Rev. Duncan Granter. Interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Isle aux Morts Road. COFFIN, FRANCES MAY

May 3, 1932 - October 11, 2009

It is with sadness that the family of the late Frances Coffin announce her passing on Sunday, October 11th, 2009 at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port Aux Basques at the age of 78 years. Born at Cape Ray, Frances was the daughter of the late Mildred and Emmanuel Pearce. She was predeceased by her husband James (1987); brothers: Nelson and Joseph Pearce; sisters: Bridget, Catherine and Theresa; brothers-in-law: Roy, Roland, Ross, Fred, Eric, Pierce, Clifford and Silas; sisters-in-law: Kitty, Vernice and Dulcie. Leaving to mourn son Robert (Lorna) Coffin, Port Aux Basques; daughters: Sharon (David) Carroll, Pasadena, and Shelley Coffin, Port Aux Basques; grandsons: Robert, James and Jeffrey Coffin; granddaughter Jennifer Carroll; sisters: Elsie (Rodney) Parsons, Phyllis Piercey and Caroline Pike; brothers: Lew Pearce, Frank (Doreen) Pearce; sisters-in-law: Florence Osmond, Edith Coffin, Dorothy Coffin and Laura Pearce; brothers-in-law: Maxwell Currie and Charlie Witherall, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Friends visited Fillatre's Funeral Home, Port Aux Basques on Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service took place on Wednesday, October 14th at 2:00 p.m. from St. James Anglican Church, officiated by Rev. Mary Ann Boote. Interment followed at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. As expressions of sympathy, flowers were graciously accepted.

Sept. 6, 1944 - Oct. 12, 2009

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Caroline Helen Pike announces her passing at Dr. Charles L Legrow Health Center on Monday October 12th, at the age of 65 years. Born at Cape Ray, Caroline was the daughter of the late Amelia and Emmanuel Pearce. She was also predeceased by her husband Clifford in 1990. Infant daughter Elaine, Grandson Kyle, twin brother Joseph Pearce, and brother Nelson. Sister's; Frances, Theresa, Bridget, and Katherine. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children; Nancy (Ken Maccormack) PEI, Austin (Joy) Lower Sackville NS, Cecil (Mary Lynn) Mississauga ON, Sharon ( Terry Leriche) Port aux Basques, Janice Port aux Basques, Wayne (Tanya) Dildo NL. Grandchildren; Nadine (Brent),Samantha, Jessica, Spencer, Amber, Nick, Santana, Chantelle, Helen, and great grandson Nathan. Brothers; Lew Pearce Port aux Basques, Frank (Doreen) Pearce Cape Ray. Skinner, John Thomas (Jack)

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Jack Skinner announces his passing on Monday October 12th, at Dr. Charles L Legrow Health Center at the age of 83 years. John was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Minnie. Brothers; George, Wesley, Ephriam. Sisters; Bertha, Minnie, Sadie, Carrie. He leaves to mourn with many precious memories his loving family; wife Gertrude of 63 years marriage. Sons; John (Janet) Port aux Basques. Ephriam (Raylene) Sudbury ON. Born at Isle aux Morts, Gertrude was the daughter of the late Oliver and Edith Brayon. She was predeceased by her step-mother Eva Brayon; husband James; son John; daughters Edith and Clarissa; brothers Norman and Lewis and son-in-law James Keeping. She leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories her loving children: Ernest (Sheila), Ruth Keeping, Norman (Heather), Alvin (Christina), Roberta (Kelly) Francis, Eva (Brian) Mauger all of Burnt Islands, James Jr. (Sandra) Margaree, Marty (Lucy), Pasadena, Nfld.; 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Diane, Halifax, N.S.; sister Mabel Brayon; brother Aiden (Ann) Brayon all of Burgeo and special friend and roommate Martha Francis and a large circle of nieces, nephews and many friends. Visitation took place on Oct. 16 and 17 at St. George's Anglican Church in Burnt Islands. Funeral services took place on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2 p.m. at St. George's Anglican Church, officiated by Father Andrew Nussey. Interment followed at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Isle aux Morts Road. Doyle, Anne
1918-2009

Passed peacefully away on Friday, October 23, 2009 at Dr. Charles L. Legrow Health Centre in the presence of her loving family, Anne (Ryan) Doyle of St. Andrew's, Codroy Valley, formerly of Red Island, Placentia Bay, at the age of 91. Predeceased by her husband, Walter, sisters Elizabeth Barry, Nellie Fitzpatrick, Margaret Martin and her brothers Frank, Patrick and William Ryan. She was dearly loved and admired by her children, step-daughters, and grandchildren. She leaves to mourn her children: Kevin (Angela), Ottawa, Sylvia, Sister of Mercy, Stephenville, Marilyn and Brendan (Bernadette), St. Andrew's, NL, Brian, Elora, Ontario, and her step-daughters: Marie, Ottawa, Pauline, NJ, and Catherine, Ohio, and her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leaving to mourn also, sisters in law; Josephine Ryan (Stephenville) and Margaret Doyle (Stephenville), as well as, a large number of nieces, nephews, and special friends. She will be resting at The Church of The Precious Blood, St. Andrew's. Wake vigil will take place at The Church of The Precious Blood on Saturday, October 24, 2009 from 8:30pm to 10pm and on Sunday, October 25, 2009 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, October 26, 2009 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Church of Precious Blood or St. Mary's Hermitage Foundation, Codroy Valley. Special thanks to her homecare workers Dianne and Lorraine. Thanks also to Dr. Wendy Graham and staff at Dr. Charles L. Legrow Health Centre.

GILLAM, JOSEPH EMMANUEL
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joseph Emmanuel Gillam announces his passing at Dr. Charles L Legrow Health Center on Saturday October 24th, at the age of 71 years. Born at South Branch, Joseph was the son of the late Emmanuel and Mary Gillam. He was also predeceased by his sisters; Elizabeth, Agnes I, Annie, and brother Jack, nephews Craig and Timmy. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his brothers and sisters; Bill (Lizeta) Nova Scotia, Mary, Mike (Theresa), Robert (Bernice), Charlie (Laura), Jim (Lorraine), Margaret (Jed) Gale, Rita, all of South Branch. Agnes (Graham) Bishop Corner Brook NL, Jane (Wayne) Hancock St. John's NL, Irene (Calvin) Carter Gander NL. Twenty-seven nieces and nephews, thirty-seven great nieces and nephews. Special niece Maureen, and a large circle of extended family and many friends. Visitation took place on Saturday and Sunday at St. Sylvester's Roman Catholic Church in South Branch. The funeral mass took place on Monday October 26th, 2 PM at St. Sylvester's Roman Catholic Church, officiated by Father Edward Terry. Interment followed at St. Sylvester's Roman Catholic Cemetery.
