Blundell, Cecil Harry Maxwell

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Cecil Blundell on Monday, November 26, 2018 in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish at the age of 80 years. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 59 years, Nellie, and many of his family members at the time of his passing. Born May 21, 1938, the fifth of six children, to the late Max and Maud (George) Blundell. Cecil was predeceased by his sister, Hazel; and brother, Clarence. The family lived in Hickman's Harbour until he moved to Grand Falls - Windsor in 1968. Cecil was a devoted husband and father to his children, Bernice, Marie, and Glenn.

They lived in Grand Falls - Windsor, N.L., where he was proud to have worked almost 40 years as a member of the Canadian National Railway where he held roles as Conductor and Brakeman. In his spare time, Cecil took immaculate care of his home, was a lover of cars, driving, and Western movies. After his retirement from the railway, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and catching up with former co-workers reminiscing about the good times they shared on the railroad. He was also a loving grandfather, great-grandfather, and a dear friend of many. He will be forever remembered for his charm, wit, and ability to make everyone laugh.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Nellie (Woolridge); his children, Bernice (Ernie) Wotton, Antigonish; Marie Sharpe (Alf), St. John's, N.L.; Glenn (Mica) Blundell, Toronto, Ont.; grandchildren, Lewis (Lisa), Sara (Dustin), Kyle (Sarah), Bryce (Lisa), Rebecca and Dylan; great-grandson, Tate. He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis (late George) Butt; brothers, Fred (late Josephine) and Wallace (Janet) Blundell; three nieces, one nephew, along with several additional family members and close friends who held a special place in his heart. Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, November 30th in Vardy's Funeral Home, Hickman's Harbour, N.L. Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, December 1st at 11 a.m. in The Salvation Army Citadel, Hickman's Harbour. Brinson, Calvin "Dan"

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Dan Brinson, age 66 of Wentzells Lake. Dan passed after a courageous battle with cancer, on November 4, 2018 in Fisherman's Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. He was a son of the late Harry and Violet (Elliott) Brinson, born September 5, 1952 at Change Island, N.L. Although there are many things that come to mind when thinking of Dan, he was an unrivalled crib player who added points so quickly, that no one could question. He loved to travel. When winter came, rest assured he would message you from far and away. He had a wonderful passion for food that some would dare to compare, especially those fortunate enough to try his succulent prime rib. And, he was adventurous, he was always looking for the next challenge, the next thrill, the next experience, the next new beginning.

He is survived by his son, Shayne (Amanda) Brinson; daughter, Danielle (Patrick) Brinson; brothers, Dawson Brinson, Tony (Dauphne) Brinson, Paul (Missy) Brinson; sister, Judy (Eric) White; stepmother, Netta (Alcock) Brinson; and auntie, Geraldine Brinson. He is also survived by is grandchildren, Chloe and Logan Brinson, Hayden and Reegan McCarthy. A special thanks to his friends at the LaHave River Yacht Club for keeping the dream alive, he always wanted to sail the Atlantic. A big thanks to Ashley for the special care in Halifax, Netta for always preparing a taste of home, Orval for being by his side, John for the property management, and the wonderful support received by family and friends, the local VON, and Dr. Gowan and her team. DALRYMPLE, Mildred Pauline "Millie"
Age 93, of Wynn Park, Truro passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Port Au Port, N.L. on September 30, 1925, Mildred was a daughter of the late Charles and Cecilia Hines, who died when Mildred was a baby. Mildred moved to Nova Scotia from Newfoundland as a young woman and worked for many years as a Councillor at the Youth Training Centre in Bible Hill. Mildred was very proud to have worked with the children, and when speaking of her experiences at the Centre, it would always put a smile on her face.

Mildred had a heart of gold and will be missed by more friends than one could possibly imagine. Mildred is survived by her older sister, Gladys MacDonald, Newfoundland; son, Ivan (Francine) Marche, Cape Breton; grandson, Michael and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Dalrymple; brother, Clyde Hines; foster parents, James and Jessie Pike and foster brother, Russell Pike.

Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 22nd at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Lower Truro Road, Truro; Dr. Dave Sutherland officiating. Interment in St. James Cemetery, Noal Road, following the service. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Mildred's name can be made to Canadian Cancer Society, 5826 South St., Halifax, NS B3H 1S6. DIXON (Hickey), Mary Jane

Age 74, of West Chezzetcook, passed away on November 1, 2018. Born in Terrenceville, N.L. to the late James Hickey and Selina Skeffington. She is survived by her children, Kevin (Jackie), Joan, Bobby (Trisha), Deborah, Jeff (Shannon); her grandchildren, Kristin, Tracy, Kevin, Tricia, Kyle, Debra, Laura, Kaitlyn, Brooke, James and Ella; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Chase, Allie, Claire and Connor. She is also survived by her brothers, Charles (Ada), Patrick (Veronica) and Pius (Christine) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Annie and Francis and her brother, Robert. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 5th, at 11 a.m. in St. Anselm Catholic Church in West Chezzetcook with Rev. Gregory Agyeman presiding. Burial and reception to follow. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Kenneth Cameron, the staff of 3 West at Dartmouth General Hospital, especially Victoria and Jessica, as well as her special friends, Elizabeth, Shelly and Amanda. MacLean, June Ellen

Age 75 of Faulkland Street, Pictou, passed away November 7, 2018 at home. Born in Burin, N.L., she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Anne (Foote) Evans. June was a retired employee of Michelin Tire. A lover of all animals, she devoted much of her time to KARMA, caring for the homeless cats of Pictou. She spent many years providing them with food and shelter. June is survived by her son, Donald MacPherson (Terric Liu); daughter, Cheryl Hill; granddaughters, Leslie MacPherson, Mallory Hill and Stephanie Hill; sister, Joy Blackadar; brothers, Gary Evans (Vera) and John Evans; nieces, nephews, and many good friends. She was predeceased by her first husband, Donald MacPherson; granddaughter, Miranda June Hill; and nephew, Timothy Wayne Fisher. Visitation will be held from 12-2 p.m. Tuesday, with funeral to follow at 2 p.m. in McLaren Funeral Chapel, Pictou, with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery. Martin, Mildred "Millie"

Age 88, of Dartmouth, passed away on November 2, 2018 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Millie was born on Bell Island, N.L. in 1930 where she lived until moving to Saskatchewan with her husband Bob in 1965. They moved from Saskatchewan to Bathurst, N.B. in 1970 and after Bob's passing in 1995 Millie moved to Dartmouth to be closer to her family. Millie was an energetic and vivacious lady, an avid bowler, a great dancer and she made many new friends in Nova Scotia and Florida. Many will remember Millie from the Newfoundland Club where she loved to dance and from the K-Mart Store in Bathurst where she was the Resident Manager.

She is survived by her son, Robert Wade Martin, Dartmouth; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Martin, Dartmouth; grandson, Scott Martin living and working in London, England and many nieces and nephews. Millie was predeceased by her husband, Robert "Bob" Douglas Martin. The last of 11 children, she was predeceased by her 10 siblings. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. prior to the funeral service which will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 17th. Visitation and service will be held in The Church of St. Andrew, 2 Circassion Dr., Dartmouth with Rev. Katherine Bourbonniere officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Cremation will follow and the interment will take place at a later date in Newfoundland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society. Martin, Stanley Mac

Age 87, of Upper Tantallon, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at home. Born in Stephenville, N.L., he was the son of the late John and Eliza (Oldford) Martin. Survived by his sons, Jeff and Colin, both of Calgary; Craig, Tantallon; daughters, Denise, Dartmouth; Twila Tuffs, Halifax; sisters, Lorraine (Melvin) Anderson of Calgary; Melba and Judy (Bill) Lafitte, both of Newfoundland; grandchildren, David, Ryan, Nichole, all of Halifax; two great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife, Nevilia (Boutilier); sons, Hal and Paul in infancy; sister, Gwen Holleman. The family will receive visitors 4-7 p.m. Sunday, December 2nd in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy's Cove Rd., Upper Tantallon. A Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 3rd in St. Margaret's Anglican Church, Tantallon, Rev. MERCHANT, Ronald John "Ron"

It is with profound sadness, the family of the late Ronald John "Ron" Merchant, 97, Trenton, announce his entrance into the presence of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Monday, November 19, 2018. Born on July 17, 1921 in St. John's, N.L., and raised in Sydney, he was a son of the late John Robert and Jeanie (Hewitt) Merchant. He served with the Canadian Army Medical Corps during the Second World War, where he was stationed in Holland on D-Day. During his service, he met his first love, Gwen Meredith in Coventry, England with whom he shared 37 years until her passing in 1980. Later, he married his second love, Joyce (Campbell) Coldwell with whom he shared another 37 years.

Ron possessed many outstanding characteristics and values, a strong work ethic and compassion for those in need. His great sense of humour will not be forgotten. He operated the former Merchant Photo's, Main Street, Trenton for many years, having photographed for schools in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Following he was employed with the Better Business Bureau of Nova Scotia, the former Court Judgement Reports and was an estimator with Burge Bros. Transfer and Storage. Ron served on the Trenton Town Council and was instrumental in the development and opening of Steeltown Park. The current Trenton Park has a trail named "Founding Trail" which honours Ron's name. He was a long-time supporter of The Gideons in Pictou County, charter member of the former Trenton Lion's Club and co-founder of the former Christian Community Centre, Trenton. Ron's enduring faith in God led him to be involved in many activities from Bible teaching, discipleship and evangelism. He leaves a rich legacy of love and devotion.

Surviving are his second wife, Joyce (Campbell); daughter, Susan Merchant; step-children, Barry Coldwell, Dr. Sherri (Doug Nickerson) Coldwell, Kandy (Laurie "chosen son") Clyburne, Robbie (Gail) Coldwell; grandchildren, Sara (Jozef Pinter) Merchant, Clark (Jane MacAulay) Merchant, Lee (Tara) Merchant, Tasha MacDonald (John Campbell), Chanci MacDonald (Chris), Bryce Nickerson, Steven, Sarah and Mark Wood; Benjamin and Jeremy Voutour; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Merchant, Adrian Merchant-Pinter, Jamie Merchant-Pinter, Evan Merchant, Braelyn Merchant, Liam Merchant, Rylan Merchant, Madalyn Campbell and Evelyn MacDonald. Ron was predeceased by his first wife, Gwen (Meredith); sons, Nigel and Garry.

Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 23rd in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, November 24th with Rev. Gordon Wheeler officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only. Newhook. Josephine Frances "Franny"

Age 92, of Dartmouth. Frances Newhook passed away peacefully in her sleep, on November 3, 2018 in St. Vincent's Guest Home. Mom would like to let you know that her work here is done. Born June 4, 1926 in Holyrood, N.L. She was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Kieley. Predeceased by her parents at the age of six, she and her sister Cecelia and brother Jack were raised by her oldest brother Patrick (Mary) with their children Anne, Mary Helen, Josephine, Thomas, Jenny, Patrick, Edward, Elisabeth, Jerome, Lorraine and Theresa. She worked as a waitress at the Gander Airport from 1952-54 moving with friends to Halifax in 1954. There she met a young man asking her for a cigarette. Not soon afterward they were married in Roddicton, N.L. They returned to Halifax in 1956 where Murdock reenlisted in the Navy and Frances became the mother of three children and home-maker for 62 years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Murdock (by one week); and is survived by her children, James (Edna), Barbara (Darryl) Dejong and Shawn (Tammy); her grandchildren, Natasha (Scott), Sabrina, Kyle (Israt), Kristopher (Vanessa), Kody, Scott (Samantha), Stephanie, Christine (Matt), Jessica (Keith); with great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jaxson, Dominic, Bianca, Brooke, and Benjamin; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada or The Arthritis Society. Services are to be held with the family privately. Starratt, Ella "Mae"

Age 89 of East Chezzetcook, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 9, 2018 in The Birches in Musquodoboit Harbour. Born in Brooklyn, N.L., she was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Belle (Skiffington) Stares. Mae was a little woman with a big personality. She loved her friends and family with her whole heart, she worked hard, and she put 110 per cent effort into everything she did. She was loved by everyone who knew her, and she touched many lives; during her years working as a PCW at The Birches, as well as being an active member in her community. She loved music, darts, a game of crib, and a good cup of tea. She is, and will always be, dearly missed and very lovingly remembered.

Mae is survived by daughters, Myrna (Dave Hall), West Petpeswick; Inez Leslie (Terry), East Chezzetcook; brothers, Bob Stares (Effie), Newfoundland; Huey Stares (Sheila), Newfoundland; Mike Stares, Ontario; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Murray; son, Sandy; brothers, Dave, Henry and Jack. Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, November 15th in St. Barnabas Church, 40 East Chezzetcook Rd., Rev. Evelyn Knorr officating.
