DOWNEY, BERNARD PATRICK
Coachman's Cove, NL

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Bernard Patrick Downey, age 82, announce his passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre on Sat., July 5, 2003. Predeceased by his wife, Theresa; parents Patrick and Bridget Downey; sisters Carmel Morrisey and Nellie Downey; and brothers-in-law, John Morrisey and John Wadden. Left with fond and loving memories are brothers Thomas John Gregor (Genevieve), all of Coachman's Cove Cyril (Kit) Fraser Lake, B.C., and Michael (Dorothy) Avondale, NL; sister, Mary Margaret Wadden, St. John's, NL; many nieces and nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Tom Duffienas conducted the funeral service at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church and Cemetery, Coachman's Cove on Tue., July 8, 2003. Pallbearers were Wade Downey, Patrick Downey, James Barker, Gorden Walsh, Aiden Philpott, and Bob Downey and the crossbearer was B.J. Philpott

GRAY, EFFIE DORIS
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Effie Doris Gray, age 78, announce her passing at her family residence in La Scie on Sun., July 13, 2003. Predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Morey; brothers, Kenneth and Walter; sister, Emma Curtis; grandson, Stephen Burton and son-in-law, Frank Harligan. Left with fond and loving memories are husband George; sons, Bob (Bernice), La Scie, Woodrow (Gail), St. George's, NB, Kenneth (Donna), La Scie, NL, Victor (Marlene), St. George's, NB, Ricky (Peggy), La Scie; daughters, Cora Hanigan, Thompson, MB, Triffie Burton (Harvey), Olive Burton (Boyd) all of La Scie, Patsy Howse (Cecil), Grand Falls-Windsor, Valerie Kerfont (Willie), Peggy Foss (Gerald), and Nola Gray (Alex Dicks), all of La Scie; also leaving to mourn 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. George Kean conducted the funeral service at Zion United Church and Cemetery, La Scie on Wednesday, July 16, 2003. Pallbearers were her seven daughters, Cora, Triffie, Olive, Patsy, Valerie, Peggy, and Nola.

LOCKE, ROSIE
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rosie Locke announce her passing at the Valley Vista, Springdale on July 13, 2003 at the age of 75. Rosie was a member of the Salvation Army Home League, Little Bay Islands until she moved to Springdale. Rosie retired from working in the crab plant in 1988. Predeceased by husband, Freeman; and grandson, Todd. Left with fond and loving memories are son, Chris of Little Bay Islands, daughters Linda (Ivan) of Glovertown, Elaine (Gerald), Daphne (Don), all from Little Bay Islands, and Lori Ann (Barry) of Smith's Harbour. Also leaving to mourn eight grandchildren; six great-grand children; two sisters, Maggie at Burlington and Nellie at Glovertown. Capts. Weldon and Donna Hayward conducted the funeral service at the Salvation Army Church on Tue. July 15, 2003. Interment was at the Sulian's Cove cemetery. Pallbearers were Cyril Oxford, Larry Locke, Barry Prowse, Cory Sturge, Grodan King, and Fred Roberts.

WHALEN, PASTOR ELSIE
Passed away July 18, 2003, peacefully, Pastor Elsie Whalen at the Valley Vista Senior Citizens' Complex, Springdale. NL. She was 97. Mrs. Whalen retired from the Pentecostal Assemblies of Newfoundland in 1965. Predeceased by husband, Pastor Joseph Whalen; sons Jethro and John Whalen; and son-in-law, Walter Russell. Left to mourn are sons George (wife, Gladys) of Calgary, AB, Wyman (wife, Mabel) of Whilby, ON, and Raymond (wife, Juanita) of Springdale, Newfoundland; daughters, Selina (husband Walter Russell deceased) of Brampton, ON, Marjorie (husband, Wallace Foss) of Embree, Irene (husband, Ralph Crocker) of St. John's and Edna Boucher of Harwood, ON. Also leaving to mourn daughters-in-law, Jean Whalen and Judy Whalen, sister-in-law, Ida Drodge, Toronto, ON; 34 grandchildren; 69 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor Edwin Rideout conducted funeral services at Evangel Pentecostal Church, Grenfell Heights. Grand Falls-Windsor, NL on Tuesday, July 22, 2003. Interment was at the Pentecostal Cemetery Union Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. Pallbearers were grandsons, Ronald Whalen, Gordon Whalen, Cameron Whalen. Jerry Whalen, Christopher Crocker and Jonathan Whalen.

DROVER, ANNE FRANCES
Harbour Round, NL

lt is with great sadness that the family of the late Anne Frances Drover, age 92, announce her passing at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre Baie Verte, NL on Saturday, July 19, 2003. Predeceased by her husband, Patrick; daughters Bridget Drover and Margaret Corbett; son Brian Drover and adopted son Raymond Sullivan. Left with fond and loving memories are son Ambrose (Margaret), Harbour Round; daughters Frances Haas, Brents Cove and Kathleen Ventura (Joe), Edmonton, AB; special grandson, Craig Drover, Harbour Round; 37 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a large circle other relatives and friends. Father Linus Coady and Father Tom Duffenais conducted the funeral service at St. John the Apostle R. C. Church, Brent's Cove on Mon., July 21, 2003. Interment followed at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Harbour Round. Pallbearers were Patrick Haas, Brose Drover, Stan Corbett, Gerard Corbett, Craig Drover, and Billy Drover and crossbearer, Keith Haas.

HEATH, Amelia Louise
Passed peacefully away July 19, 2003 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, Amelia Louise Heath, King's Point. She was a member of the Outer Circle of the Salvation Army Home League, King's Point. Predeceased by husband Frank; and sons, Ernest, Willie, and Jerry. Left to mourn are sons, Leslie (wife Muriel) of King's Point and John (wife Madeline) of North York, ON; daughters, Lillian (husband Hayward Pardy) of Corner Brook and Karen (husband Lawrence Caines) King's Point. Also leaving to mourn sister, Nellie Starks at Valley Vista, Springdale; brothers, Roland (Norena) of Springdale and Howard (Frances) of Comer Brook; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Major Young and Reverend Lodge conducted funeral services at Salvation Army, King's Point on July 22, 2003. Interment was at the Nipper's Harbour United Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Morris Noble, Gary Warford, Barry Strickland, Kevin Janes, Wayne Newbury, and Bob Thomas.

GILLINGHAM, RALPH STANLEY
Westport, NL

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ralph Stanley Gillingham, age 77, announce his passing at the Valley Vista Senior's Complex, Springdale on Saturday, July 26, 2003. Predeceased by his wife, Ethel; son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Juanita Gillingham; parents, Robert and Precilla Gillingham. Left with fond and loving memories are daughters, Gloria Locke (George), Westport, Norma Smith (Bill), Fort McMurray, AB and son, George (Denise), Victoria, BC, nine grandchildren and two great grand children and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. A. Brett conducted the funeral service at St. Peter's Anglican Church and Cemetery, Westport on Thursday, July 31, 2003. Pallbearers were grandsons, Hurley Locke, Ryan Gillingham, Grogan Ricketts, Cluney Ricketts, Hollis Jacobs, Clayton Gavin.

NOBLE, LAVTNIA SARAH
Burlington, NL

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lavinia Sarah Noble, age 92, announce her passing at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre, Baie Verte on Sun., July 27, 2003. Predeceased by her husband, William: parents, Martha and John Squires. Left with fond and loving memories are sons, Melvin, Lewis (Barbara), and Gordon, all of Burlington; three grandchildren, Lisa, Peter and Stephanie and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Marilyn Avery conducted the funeral service at Riverside United Church and Cemetery, Burlington on Wed., July 30, 2003. Pallbearers were Bryan Elliott, Wesley Matthews, David Perry, Harry Perry, Howard Roberts, and Garfield Roberts.

FOSTER, HAROLD GEORGE
La Scie, NL

It Is with great sadness that the family of the late Harold George Foster, age 83, announce his passing at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre, Baie Verte on Mon. July 28, 2003. Predeceased by his grandparents, Jesse and Elizabeth Foster; parents, Kenneth and Charlotte Foster; sisters, Leah Foster, Vivien Hobbs: and brother, Herbert Foster. Left with fond and loving memories are wife, Dorothy; sons, Kenneth (Marjorie), St. John's, NL, Roy (Sandra), La Scie, Kirk (Juanita), Esterhazy, SK, Craig (Darlene), Flin Flon, MB and daughter Olive Foster (Clarence Critch). Also leaving to mourn sister Mabel Sharpe; half brother Ralph Matthews (Annie); eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev Harry Oake conducted the funeral service at Zion United Church and Cemetery, La Scie on Wednesday, July 30, 2003. Pallbearers were Gordon Rice, George Gray, George Dicks, Harvey Martin, Arthur Richards and Ernest Curtis.

PENNEY, Palma Christina
Passed away peacefully on Tues, July 29, 2003, at the age of 78, Palma Christina Penney, at the Bate Verte Peninsula Health Centre. She was a member of the UCW, Smiths Harbour. Predeceased by husband, Selby. Left to mourn are sons, Keith (wife Emma) of Smith Harbour, NL, Clyde (wife Judy), of Fort Nelson BC, Morris (wife Alfreda) of Smith Harbour, NL.; daughter, Vera (husband Roy Vokey) of Burlington, NL. Also leaving to mourn nine grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Marilyn Avery conducted funeral services at United Church, Smith Harbour. Interment was at United Church Cemetery Smith Harbour. Pallbearers were Keith Penney, Clyde Penney, Morris Penney, (sons) Desmond Penney, Bryce Vokey and Alvin Vokey (grandsons).
