WHELAN, Mary Angela, R.N. (Ret)., 94, R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish, N.S., formerly of Circular Road and Hunt Place, St. John's, passed peacefully away July 5, 1996. Born April 2, 1902 in Witless Bay, she was the eldest child of Patrick J. and Eliza M. (Scott) Tobin. After graduating from St. Bride's College, Littledale, she received her R.N. from St. Vincent's School of Nursing in New York City 1926. She continued her nursing career in NYC for nine years at St. Vincent's and Long Island Hospitals where she held positions of Head Nurse in Surgery and Obstetrics while pursuing her degree at Columbia University. Returning to Newfoundland in 1935, for several years she was resident nurse for the Southern Shore. She worked as RN at St. Clare's Mercy and St. John's General Hospitals. She was also a Nurse/Receptionist for the late Dr. Sharpe, Dr. Joe Murphy, Dr.'s Robert and Douglas Simms. She was a member of St. Bonaventure's College Ladies Auxiliary, the Catholic Women's League, the St. Vincent's Alumni Association, the Registered Nurse's Associations of Newfoundland, Ontario and New York, and an avid supporter of the Community Concert Program of St. John's. She is survived by one son, Dr. Patrick and wife Margo, Seattle, Washington, two daughters: C.T. (Kay) and husband Duffy McDonald, all of Antigonish; four grandchildren: Dr. Ted McDonald and wife Kathy, Hobart, Australia; Dr. Michelle McDonald, New Glasgow, N.S.; John Whelan, Seattle, Dawn Webster, Antiginosh; two great-grandchildren, Imogen and Tess McDonald, Australia and numerous nieces and nephews in Newfoundland and Labrador. She was predeceased in 1980 by her husband James J. Whelan and younger siblings: two brothers Ralph Tobin in 1978 and James in infancy, two sisters, Bride (Sr. Marie de Lourdes, CSM) in 1987 and Justina Gough in 1993. Funeral Services took place July 9 at St. Ninian's Cathedral, Antiginosh, Reverend Conrad Edwards officiating. Lectors at the Mass were Dawn Webster and Duffy McDonald. Don Webster read the intentions. Offering the gifts at Mass were Dawn Webster, Marg Tobin Power, Witless Bay, Newfoundland, and Pearl MacPherson, Antigonish. YETMAN - Passed away at the General Hospital Helath Sciences Centre on Wednesday, February 28th., 1979, Leo J. Yetman aged 65 years. Leaving to mourn: besides his loving wife Imelda, three daughters, Anette (Mrs. Keith Mooney), Ferryland, Josephine in Alberta and Anastatia at home; six sons, Matthew and Leo in Manatoba, Hugh and Carl in Alberta, Edmund, Trepassey, Newfoundland and Edgar at home; daughters-in-law, Hilda and Elizabeth; two sisters, Mary (Mrs. R. Krumnerich), Baltimore, Maryland and Sara (Mrs. E.P. Sexton), St. John's; three brothers, Matthew, Alex and Edward at St. Mary's; also nine grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends.
