COLES, William J.
Passed peacefully away at his home on Tuesday, December 30, 2003, William J. Coles of Bloomfield, aged 84 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Amy of 62 years; daughters, Bonnie (Clary Best) at Yellowknife, YT, Jessie (Justin Wickham) at St. John's, Elizabeth (Barry Seaward) at Clarenville, Marion (Edmund Dewling) at Shoal Harbour and Ivy (Ray Blundon) at Lethbridge; sons, Austin (Olive) at Bloomfield, Harold (Anita) at Barrie, ON, Dolph (Doris) at Brigus, Terry (Judy) at Bloomfield, Gerald (Diane) at Toronto, ON, and Wade (Rita) at St. John's; brother, Wallace (Jane) at Toronto, ON; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a circle of family and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home Lethbridge. Funeral service took place on Friday January 2 2004 from Heritage United Church, Musgravetown Interment at United Church Cemetery, Musgravetown. In his memory donations may be made to United Church Cemetery Fund, Musgravetown.

WILLIAMS, Minnie
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on December 24, 2003, Minnie Williams, age 87, from Bunyan's Cove. Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories are her husband of 64 years, Joseph; daughter, Marcella (Robert Burt); sons, Walter (Carol) and Melvin (Amby); seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Stella Williams; nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends Rested at the St. Paul's United Church, Bunyan’s Cove, from  where the funeral service, officiated by Mr. Bruce Rideout, took place on Monday, December 29, 2003, with interment following. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

GEORGE, Lewis
Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Tuesday, December 16, 2003, Lewis George of Shoal Harbour, aged 47 years. Predeceased by his father, Noah George, 1989. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Beverely (Barrett) of 23 years; son, Adam at Shoal Harbour; mother, Olive George at Shoal Harbour; sisters, Marjorie (Swinton Clarke) at Toronto and Marie (Dale Hayward) at Harcourt; brothers, Gordon (Rine) at Gander and Winston (Kit) at Shoal Harbour; and a circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held on Thursday, December 18, 2003, from St. Mary's Anglican Church, Clarenville. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to an Education Fund for Adam

DAY, Jessie Helen (Dewling)
Passed peacefully away at G. B. Cross Hospital in Clarenville on December 16,  2003. Remembered by her daughter, Charlotte and family at Evanston, Illinois and by her son, John and family at Moravia, New York. Remembered by many nephews, nieces and their families; also, special friends and her extended family  at Random Interfaith Apartments in Clarenville. Funeral service was held on December 20, 2003, from St. Nicholas Anglican Church in Champney's East.

BUTT, Alma
Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Tuesday, January 6, 2004, Alma R. Butt of Clarenville, aged 81 years. Predeceased by her husband, William and daughter, Reta. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughters, Eileen (Winston Watton) at Shoal Harbour, Muriel Harvey at Alberta and Judy Strong at Harcourt; sons, John (Pam) at Ontario and Eric (Rose) at Ontario; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and a circle of family and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held Friday, January 9, 2004, from Milton-George's Brook United Church with interment at Milton-George's Brook Cemetery.

ABBOTT, Clement
Passed peacefully away at the Bonavista Peninsula Health Care Complex on December 22, 2003, our beloved father, Clement Abbott, a day before his 81st birthday. He  was predeceased by wife, Susie on February 27, 2000. Leaving to mourn with cherished memories are his six sons; Stewart (Debbie) at Toronto, ON, Edmund (Joan) at Mount Pearl, NL, Hector (Jackie) at Bonavista, NL, Garry (Pamela) at Ottawa ON, Clement (Brenda) at Chamberlains, NL, and Irving (Heather) at Toronto ON; six daughters, Marie (Peter) Hammond at Catalina, NL Doris (Jerry) Patey at Wabush, NL, Doreen (Patrick) Horan at Toronto ON, Geraldine (Larry) White at Carbonear, NL, Gladys (Rex) Sheppard at Bonavista, NL, and Jennifer at Brampton, ON; brother Frank (Joyce) at Plum Point, NL; sister, Elsie Fifield at Bonavlsta NL 29 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchIldren; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Strathie's Funeral Home, Bonavista. Funeral services were officiated by Rev. Elsie Pottle of Memorial United Church, Bonavista, at 2 p.m. December 24, 2003

Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Center on Friday, January 2, 2004, George Mills Billard of St. John's, originally of Port Aux Basques, at age 71 years. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 46 years Myra (nee Cook) at St John's; daughter, Lynette (Joe) Kowalchuk at Denare Beach, Saskatchewan; sons, David (Josephine) Billard at St John's and Darryl (Helen) Billard at Winnipeg, Manitoba; grandchildren, Rebecca Pike (Mike Stratvchuk) at Winnipeg, Manitoba, Stephen and Adam Billard at St. John's; great-grandchild, Ashlea Stratychuk at Winnipeg, Manitoba; brotners, Ralph (Kay) Billard at St. John's, Clayton (Violet) Billard at Rose Blanche, Robert (Leona) Billard at Oakville, Ontario, and Roy (Rosemary) Billard at Sidney, British Columbia; sisters, Phyllis (Edgar) Richards at Corner Brook, Joan (Ron) Lee at St. John's, Ruth (Fred) Jarmen at Cambridge, Ontario, and Vivian Fleming at Halifax, Nova Scotia; sisters-in-law, Sandra (David) Butler at Guelph, Ontario, Glenda (Jim) Strong at Ottawa, Ontario, and Paula (Bert) Powell at Barrie, Ontario; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Predeceased by grandchild, Usha-Lyn Pike of Corner Brook; sister, Margaret Sexsmith of Peterborough, Ontario; and parents, Fred and Gladys Billard of Port Aux Basques. Rested at Barrett's Funeral Home, St John's. Funeral took place from St. Mary's Anglican Church, St. John's, on Monday, January 5, 2004. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation were made.

BLACKMQRE, Elsie
Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Monday, January 5, 2004, Elsie Blackmore of Port Blandlord, aged 74 years. Predeceased by husband, Donald. Left with fond and loving memories her son, Douglas (late Glenda Blackmore) at Port Blandford; daughters, Carol Harris (William) at Port Blandford, Donna Holloway (Gary) at Port Blandford, Dianne Greening (Allan) at Port Blandford, Karen Peddle (David) at Port Blandford and Kimberly Hobbs (Michael) at Bunyan's Cove; sister, Leona Munro (Bruce) at Toronto, Ontario; eight grandchildren, Tracy (Terry), Christopher (Angie), Justin, Pamela, Alison, Matthew, Danielle and Kimberlee; two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Cole; sister-in-law, Manna Green (William) at Port Blandford; brother-in-law, Job Blackmore (Sybil) at St. John's; cousin, Barbara Stagg at Catalina; and a circle of family and friends. Rested at St. Aidan's Anglican Church, Port Blandford. Funeral service held Thursday, January 8, 2004, from St. Aidan's Anglican Church, Port Blandford with interment at St. Aidan's Anglican Cemetery  Port Blandlord. VARDY, Clarence
Passed peacefully away at the DVA Pavilion, St. John's, on Wednesday, January 14, 2004, Clarence Vardy of Clarenville, aged 82 years. Predeceased by his wife, Velma; sisters, Minnie Hawco and Nellie Bomengen; and brothers, Fred, George, Alex, Arthur and Ronald. Leaving to mourn two brothers, Roy Vardy (Dot) at Clarenville and Gordon Vardy at St. John's; sisters-in-law, Isabelle Vardy at Clarenville, Bertha Vardy at Clarenville, and Edna Vardy at Clarenville; Mary and David Warren and family at Clarenville; Warrick Smith at Chance Cove and Jean Pye (Clarence) at Lethbridge; good friend, Max Blackwood Dina) at Greenspond; a number of nieces and nephews; caregivers; other relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville, from where the funeral took place on Friday, January 16, 2004. Interment followed at Clarenville Interdenominational Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society or Children’s Wish Foundation.

BUTT, George
Passed peacefully away at the Dr.  G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on January 8, 2004, George Butt of Milton in his 76th year. Predeceased by his sister, Genevia Spurrell. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife, Phyllis (nee Blundell); son, Wallace at Milton; granddaughter, Nicole at St. John's; grandson, Peter at Alberta; sisters, Edna Vardy at Clarenville and Viola White at Random Island; brothers, Eric (Dorothy) at Shoal Harbour and Jack (Kay); also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rested at Blundons Funeral Home, Shoal Harbour. Funeral service was officiated by Rev. Hannon from United Church, Shoal Harbour, on January 11, 2004, with interment at the United Church Cemetery in Shoal Harbour. As an expression of sympathy, donations in his memory were made to the G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital.

HART, Neta Joyce Pearl
Passed away at her residence in St. John's on Saturday, January 3, 2004, Neta  Joyce Pearl Hart, age 66 years. Leaving to mourn brothers, Gerald Hart at Ontario and Gregory Hart at Alberta; Aunt Florence Quinton at Princeton; nieces, Jessica and Wendy; nephews, Christopher, Jonathan and Jordan; special friends, Iris and Peter Gent, Ellen Sharpe, Joe and Tom Power and the Pittman family; also a number of other relatives and friends. Rested at Barrett's Funeral Home, St. John's. Funeral service held Wednesday, January 7, 2004, from Barrett's Chapel with interment at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road, St John's.

IVANY, Hilda Mae
Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Monday, December 29, 2003, aged 74 years. Predeceased by her husbands, Noah Perry and Maurice Ivany. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughters, Mary Perry at Toronto, Joyce Perry at Toronto, Nancy Avery (David) at Toronto, Eileen Skiffington (Robert) at Brooklyn and Ruth Perry at Toronto, Gloria Maidment (Richard) at Bloomfield, Stephanie Dowden at Ottawa and Tammy Crilly (Shawn) at Toronto; sister, Edna Howse at Bloomfield; brothers, Freeman Keats (Rita) at Bunyan's Cove and Donald Keats (Maude) at North West Brook; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Holloway; and a large number of other relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Lethbridge. Funeral service took place on Wednesday, December 31, 2003, from  Heritage United Church, Musgravetown with interment at  United Cemetery, Musqravetown.

KING, William T.
Passed peacefully away at Hoyles Home, St. John's, on Wednesday, January 21, 2004, William T. King of Clarenville, formerly of Little Heart's Ease, aged 89 years. Predeceased by infant son, Silas. Leaving to mourn his wife of 65 years, Gladys (nee Spurrell); son, Cater (Ida), Clarenville; daughter, Hilda Balsom (Robert), Clarenville; brother, Azariah King (Emma); sister, Edith Norris; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home in Clarenville and Little Heart's Ease. Funeral service held on Friday, January 23, 2004, from Bethel United Church, Little Heart's Ease, with interment at United Cemetery, Little Heart's Ease. In his memory, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

BABSTOCK, George MacKenzie
Passed peacefully away at Bonnews Nursing Home on January 21, 2004, George M (Kenz) Babstock in his 92nd year. Predeceased by his wife, Rita J. (Penny) in 1996; brother, Roy; and sister, Jennie. Left to celebrate his life are son, Roy (Mary) of Eastport; grandsons, Steven (Nichola) of Dartmouth, NS and Peter (Angela) of Lower Sackville, NS and Peter (Angela) of Lower Sackville, NS. sister-in-law, Catherine Babstock of Eastport; 10 nephews; six nieces; and other relatives end friends. Rested at Squire's Funeral Home, Eastport. Funeral service was held on January 23 at Holy Cross Anglican Church, Eastport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Cross Anglican Church Cemetery Fund, Eastport.

SWEETLAND, Juanita Marie
Passed away suddenly at her home in Bonavista on Friday, January 16, 2004, Juanita Marie Sweetland, in her 51st year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her mother, Marie; father, Frank; brothers, Franklin (Iris) and Gary; sister, Connie (Fred); nephews, Mitchell Stead and Sean Sweetland; nieces, Tara Sweetland and Courtney Street; aunts, Barbara Reilly (Lawrence), Frances Sweetland, Patsy Hayward (Wayne) and Neta Durdle; uncles, Randy Durdle (Angela) and. Benson. Newman; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral service was conducted at Christ Anglican Church, Bonavista, by Rev. William Rice and Rev. Wayne Short on January 19, 2004. Interment was at the Anglican Cemetery, Bonavista.

PEARCE, Margaret
Passed away on January 18, 2004, at G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, Margaret Pearce of Bonavista, at the age of 54. Leaving to mourn husband, William; daughter, Rose (Zaid); sons, William Jr. (Shirley), Dennis (Barbara), Shawn (Chnstine), Fred (Kathleen) and Jerry (Kerry); grandchildren, Devon, Christopher, TJ, Jamal, Shawn, Tiffany, Tysia, Jonathan and Ashley; sister, Agnes; brothers, Tom, Fred and Dan. Rested at Strathies Funeral Home, Bonavista. Funeral service took place Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at Roman Catholic Church, Bonavista. Interment at Roman Catholic Cemetery, Bonavista.
