Rowena J. Carpenter
Passed on: June 26th, 2013

Passed away suddenly on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, Rowena Carpenter of Clarenville, aged 66 years. Predeceased by parents Maxwell and Eva Drodge. Left with fond and loving memories her husband Eph of 47 years; daughters Tamara and Patricia (Darrin Kirby); grandchildren Eva and Daniel; sister Maxine (Lloyd); brothers Andrew (Dianne), Charlie (Cecily), Chesley (Wendy) and Ronald (Sonja); and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Memorial United Church, Clarenville with interment at the United Cemetery, Church Hill, Clarenville. In her memory donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Autism Society.

Albert Winston Howse
Born: January 17th, 1924
Passed on: June 26th, 2013

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Albert Winston Howse, from Queen's Cove at the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville. Predeceased by his parents, wife Mildred, brother-in-law Jim, grandson Michael and brothers Gordon and Eleazor. Leaving to mourn, sons Winston (Renee), Max and Paul (Dianne); grandchildren, Melanie (Stan), Krista, Natalie (Rob), Ashley, Shawn and James; great grandchildren, Dylan, Regan, Noah, Emma, Devyn and Ethan; brother Nelson and sisters Millicent and Joyce, as well as a circle of relatives and friends. Rested at the United Church, Queen's Cove from where the funeral service, officiated by Rev. Russell Lodge, took place on June 29, 2013 with interment following. Predeceased by parents, Chesley and Florence (nee Butt) Mills and siblings, William, Charles, Gerald, Eileen and Nellie. Leaving to mourn his partner, Linda; son, Tom (Tammy); daughters, Lois (Rex Burton), Marlene (Al Stalker), Cindy (Lloyd Ralph), Angela, April (Herb Froude) and Madonna (Gary Wiseman); and their mother Verlie; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister, Bernice Coleman and many other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away at Dr. G B Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, Evelyn Corrigan (nee Churchill) of Clarenville, aged 90 years. Predeceased by husband Austin; sister Mary Goobie; brothers Gordon, Simon, Johnny, Charlie and Alonzo. Left with fond and loving memories her brother Walter; sisters-in-law Minnie Churchill, Loretta Moulton and Isabelle Churchill; brother-in-law Bert Corrigan; special great nephews Chad and Stephen Goobie; nieces, nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service was held on Friday, June 28, 2013 at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Clarenville with interment at Clarenville Interdenominational Cemetery. Phyllis "Yvonne" Metherall
Born: February 12th, 1961
Passed on: June 23rd, 2013

With deep sadness the family of Phyllis "Yvonne" Metherall, 52, of Dartmouth, NS (formerly of Clarenville, Newfoundland), announce her passing from her courageous yet dignified battle with cancer on June 23, 2013 at the VG Hospital in Halifax, NS. Born February 12, 1961 in Fogo, Newfoundland she was the daughter of Isabel Blanche Mercer (Eveleigh), Clarenville, Newfoundland and the late John William Mercer. Phyllis "Yvonne" was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She accepted her fate with dignity and grace and never once complained. She will be missed by everyone. She worked at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Halifax, NS for 17 years and went above and beyond in her care of the veterans. She recently received an Angels in Action award for recognition of her work with the veterans. Survived by her husband Kenneth "Wayne"; sisters, Wanda (Ed) Best; Marina (Brant) Dyer and Pauline (Roy) Snelgrove; her father-in-law Kenneth Metherall; sister-in-law, Karen (Richard) Wood; brother-in-law, Gary Metherall; and her nieces and nephews and friends. Visitation took place at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Memorial service was held on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Clarenville with interment at Clarenville Interdenominational Cemetery. John Wayne Guy
Passed on: July 7th, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of JOHN WAYNE GUY, age 64 years, at his home in Trenton, Ontario. Wayne is formally from Arnold's Cove, NL. He leaves to mourn his wife Karen (and the Watson Family) and their children Zachary (Jenna), Natasha and John-Henry. He was predeceased by his parents Eugene Guy and Viola (nee Peach) & his brother Edward Guy. Wayne also leaves to mourn his sisters Inez (Harry), Effie (Lloyd) & Joyce (Jim) and his brothers Gordon (Karen), Reg (Linda), Ron (Juanita), Rodney (Tanya) and sister in law Flo. He also leaves with many fond memories many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Gerald Percy Bashforth
Born: September 27th, 1949
Passed in: Comox, British Columbia, Canada
Passed on: June 29th, 2013

We are saddened to announce the passing of Gerald Percy Bashforth, formerly of Bonavista, NL, at the age of 63 on June 29, 2013 in Comox, BC. He was buried on July 9 in Courtenay Civic Cemetery. Gerald was born on September 27, 1949 in Preeceville, SK. He graduated from high school in 1967, and went on to earn an MSc degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1972. Gerald met his future wife Elaine in Saskatoon, SK, and they were married on April 30, 1971. They had four children: son Arden (Julie Qvistgaard) and daughters Adrienne (Richard) Banting, Linnea (Zane) Ross, and Leanne. Gerald's career began as an instructor at Lakeland College (Vermillion, AB), and was followed by positions in the Department of Agriculture, Government of Manitoba (Winnipeg, MB). After a move to Brandon, MB, Gerald worked at Assiniboine Community College, eventually becoming Vice President. In 2005, Gerald took an early retirement and moved with Elaine to lovely Bonavista. Despite being a long way from home, it was here that Gerald felt very much at home, being involved with the Bonavista Historical Townscape Foundation, the Chamber of Commerce, and many other volunteer projects in the community. Although Gerald moved away from Bonavista in the later stages of his illness, a large part of his heart will always remain there. Thanks for all the memories.

Joyce Chislett

Passed peacefully away at Dr. G B Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Monday, July 1, 2013, Joyce Chislett of Lethbridge, aged 72 years. Predeceased by her parents Isaac and Elizabeth Penney. Left with fond and loving memories her husband Howard of 53 years; daughters Peggy (Mike) and Leslie Ann (Nick); son Craig (Colleen); grandchildren Joshua, Justin, Chloe, Becca, Aaliyah, Amelia, Julia and Miguel; and a large circle of family and friends. Cremation has take place along with a private family burial.

Alice leaves to mourn her brothers, Fred and Ernest (Marina); sister, Gladys; sister-in-law, Daisy Hoddinott; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Left with fond and loving memories her daughters; Vickie (Milton), Janet (Walt), Dallas, Avalene, Brenda (Jim), sons; Glenn (Diane), Roger (Juanita), 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, sisters; Joyce (Gilbert), Ruby (Eric), brother Gordon Hiscock (Marjorie) and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at United Church, Deep Bight. Funeral Service was held 2 pm Saturday, July 13, 2013 at United Church Deep Bight with interment at the United Cemetery, Deep Bight.

Billie Merle Elfner (nee Balsom)

Billie Elfner
passed away on September 10, 2012 after a courageous six year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born in Come-By-Chance on October 29, 1952 and grew up in Clarenville. Billie is survived by her husband of 25 years, Donald, son Adam and daughter Beverly, as well as by brothers Robert, Velmore, Ivar, Patrick, Joseph and Rockwell Balsom and sisters Yvonne Pyrah, Dawn Pardy and Deena Rowe. She was predeceased by her father William, mother Effie, sister Darcie Porter and brother Murray Balsom. A memorial service will be held for Billie at the Salvation Army Citadel in Clarenville (277 Marine Drive) on Thursday, July 25th at 2:00 pm, with Corps Officers Captains Anthony and Yvonne Ledrew officiating. Internment will follow at the Pleasantville Cemetery in Clarenville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation, Newfoundland & Labrador Chapter, # 304, 56 Kenmount Road, St. John's, NL A1B 3V7.

Leaving to mourn his wife, Dorothy, daughter, Lorna (Pat) and son, Ivan (Cathy); grandchildren, Jason (Jami), Damien (Jennifer), Deanne (A.J.) and Terri; great grandchildren, Colby, Ryder, Rayden and Robyn; sisters, Barbara and Wilma, niece and nephew, Dana (Paul) and Noel (Jennifer); great nieces, Samantha, Abby and Kate; also a large circle of extended family and friends. Passed peacefully away at Dr. G B Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, Edna Toope, a long time resident of Clarenville Retirement Centre, formerly of Old Bonaventure, aged 91 years. Predeceased by husband Winston Spencer Toope; mother Lillian Ivany, father William John Ivany; son Louis Toope; daughter Lillian Toope; brothers Garland, Frank, Lambert, Thomas, Percy and Garfield Ivany; sister Una Toope. Left with fond and loving memories her daughters Nina Bannister (Don), Milton and Ivy (the late Charlie) Spurrell, Old Bonaventure; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a large circle of family and friends. Funeral service took place on Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Anglican Church, New Bonaventure with interment at Anglican Cemetery, Old Bonaventure.
