Eli was born on January 6, 1925 in Hillview, NL to Richard and Elizabeth (Brinston) Loder. Eli's working years started when he left home at the young age of 14 to go to Labrador as cook's helper on Eli Drodge's fishing boat. Following employment with Cousin's Drycleaners, The White Clothing Company and at the Naval Base in Argentia, Eli returned to sea in 1947 when he began working with the NL Railway on the "Issac John Smith". For three years he sailed to the Caribbean carrying a cargo of salt fish and returning with a cargo of molasses and rum. His next seafaring job was on the CN coastal boats delivering cargo, passengers and mail to communities along the coast of NL. Before his retirement in 1982, Eli completed his long marine career working on various ships such as the "Ambrose Shea" and "Marine Atlantica" that provided ferry service from North Sydney, NS to Argentia or Port-Aux-Basques, NL. Eli and Flo resided in Clarenville, NL for 32 years of their married life where he was actively involved in the church, league bowling and darts. He gardened; camped, fished, berry picked and loved a good game of cards "120's". Eli and Flo moved to Riverview, NB in 2004 to be closer to Garry, Janice and Robert and his grandchildren. He continued bowling until sidelined by his second hip replacement and enjoyed playing cards with good friends, Max and Bessie. He also enjoyed sailing with Janice and Robert on their sailboat the "Panacea" in Shediac Bay. Eli was a kind, gentle and considerate soul; ever thankful, ever thoughtful - never one to complain. His infectious "little" smile will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We would like to thank his caregivers from Bayshore especially Shirley, Mary and Robin who enabled him to live at home for the past year. We would also like to thank Drs. Cameron and Forbes, all his specialists and nurses of 4600 involved in his care. Cremation has taken place.
