Passed peacefully away at the G. B. Cross Hospital, Clarenville, on Friday, September 19, 2003, Blanche Furlong of Plate Cove West in her 84th year. Predeceased by her husband, Thomas Furlong. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories six sons, Donald at Whitecourt, Alberta, Joseph at Plate Cove West, Pierce (Leona) at Ontario, Garry (Lorraine) at Alberta, Fred (Shirley) at Plate Cove West and William (Patricia) at Plate Cove West; five daughters, Joan (Tobias) Greening at Oniaro, Anne (Adrian) Hollohan at Plate Cove west; Gertie Gallant at New Brunswick, Bonnie (Austin) Hollohan at Summerville and Jackie (Larry) Prince at St. John's; 27 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Rested at the Roman Catholic Church, Plate Cove, from where the funeral took place on September 22, 2003. Interment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Plate Cove. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Blundons Funeral Home, Shoal Harbour

Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Tuesday, September 30, 2003, Ernest Gordon Goodyear of Harcourt, aged 83 years. Predeceased by first wife, Francis (1958); second wife, Marjorie (1978); and two brothers, Richard and Simeon. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his special friend, Jessie of Harcourt; daughters, Ivy (Bruce Berkshire) at Elllott's Cove and Marion Stringer at Clarenville; sons, Henry (Mary) at Monroe, Watson at Ontario, Stephen (Dorothy) at Mount Pearl Cyril (Winnie) at Fort McMurray, AB, James (Velma) at Harcourt, Ansel (Alma) at Shoal Harbour, Marvin (Goldie) at Ontario George (Leona) at Little Catalina, Perry (Pauline) at Ontario and Paul (Patricia) at Ontario; sister-in-law, Lillian Goodyear at Catalina, a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Rested at United Church Harcourt Funeral service took place 2 p.m., Saturday, October 4, 2003, from United Church, Harcourt. Interment at United Cemetery, Harcourt

BARKER, Thomas
Passed peacefully away at the James Peyton  Memorial Hospital, Gander, on September 23, 2003, Thomas Barker, age 85, of Open Hall, Bonavista Bay. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 59 years, Rose; eight children, Sam (Rosalyn), Edward (Mary), Madonna, (Harry), John (Gloria}, Marie (Hubert), Carmel (Sterling), Bernice (Marion) and Jane (Curtis); 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral took place on Saturday, September 27, 2003. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Vardy's Funeral Home, Random Island.

QUINTON, Pheobe
Passed peacefully away in the presence of her family at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Sunday, September 28, 2003, Phoebe L. Quinton of Charleston, aged 63 years. Predeceased by her parents, Jim and Rita Prlnce; brothers, Adolph and Robert; and sister, Ramona  Bursey. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband, Cecil of 46 years: daughters, Peggy Quinton-Jordan (Chris) at Pouch Cove, Debbie Duggan (John) at St. John's and Karen Simmonds (Chris) at Canning's Cove; son, Russell (Sadie) at Charleston; brother, Heber Prince (Sylvia); five precious grandchildren, Shelley, Kaitlin, Anna, Krista and Justin; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Prince at St. John's, Estella Prince-Appleby at Nova Scotia, Dorothy Yetman at Bryants Cove and Marina Quinton at Summerville; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Hope United Church, Charleston. Funeral service held Wednesday, October 1, 2003, from Hope United Church, Charleston. Intennent at United Cemetary, Charleston. In her memory, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.


October 13, 2003

GOODYEAR, John of Harcourt, NL, (a veteran of NFLD Cverseas Forestry Unit, a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 27, Clarenville, and  member of Masonic Craft) passed away peacefully to join his beloved wife, May, on Saturday Oct. 4, 2003, aged 86 years. Predeceased by all his sisters and brothers. Survived by sisters-in-law Minnie Goodyear (Art) and Madelene Morris, and cousin Ross Goodyear. He will be sadly missed by his children: Shirley (Bill) Jablonski, Janice (Tom) Paas, Wendy (Ted) Topping and John B. Goodyear; grandchildren: Keir Humble, Lesley (Chad) Harris, Michael, Kevin and Bethany Topping, and Christine and Sarah Goodyear; and many nieces and nephews. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at the Bethany United Church. Interment at United Church Cemetery in Harcourt. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

WATTON, Maxwell John
Passed peacefully away on October 14, 2003, at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Maxwell John Watton, aged 69 years. Predeceased by parents, Heber and Mary and sisters, Winnie and Violet. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are brothers, Walter (Irene) at Trinity East, NL, Stanley (Mildred) at Trinity East, NL, Roy (June) at Gander and Vincent at Trinity East, NL; also a large number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services took place from the Anglican Church at Trinity East on Thursday, October 16, 2003. Interment at the Anglican Cemetery, Trinity East. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Stacey's Funeral Hoine, Gander.

Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, Solomon Spurrell of Little Heart's Ease in his 90th year. Predeceased by wife Alethea (1998). Left with fond and loving memories his daughter Louise Noseworthy (Robert) at Mount Pearl; sons Roy (Ida) at Wabush and Rex (Sheila) at Little Heart's Ease; sister Gladys King (William) at Clarenville; brother Eli (Marcie) at Clarenville; six grandchildren Allison, Kenneth, Morgan, Julie, Christopher and Mitchell; and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at the Salvation Army Citadel in Little Heart's Ease. Funeral service held on Friday, Oct.24, 2003, from Salvation Army Citadel, Little Heart's Ease. Interment at Salvation Army Cemetery, Little Heart's Ease. In his memory donations may be made to Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital or Salvation Army Citadel, Little Heart's Ease.

PEACH, Harvey
Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre, St. John's, on Oct. 21, 2003, Harvey Malcolm Peach of Arnold's Cove, aged 54 years. Predeceased by his father Alexander Peach. Left with fond and loving memories his wife Viola of 33 years; daughter Suzanne; son Anthony (Jacqueline); sister Hazel Ingram (Eric); granddaughter Alexa; mother Bessie Peach; nephew Chad Ingram; and a circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Arnold's Cove. Funeral service held Friday, Oct.24, 2003, from Salvation Army Citadel, Arnold's Cove. Interment at the Interfaith Cemetery Arnold's Cove. In his memory donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

IVANY, Dorcas
Passed peacefully away at the G B Cross Hospital Clarenville, on Wednesday Oct 8 2003 Dorcas Ivany of George's Brook in her 77th year. Predeceased by her parents Hazel and Gideon Bailey, brother Jack Bailey and a baby sister. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories daughter Louise (David) at George's Brook; granddaughters Lorelei (Darren) Newton at St. John's and Landelle (Tom) Hennifent at Mount Pearl; and grandson David Junior at Vancouver, BC. Pallbearers were Calvin Murphy, Oliver Stanley, Wallace Ivany, Albert Blackmore, Robert Stanley and Dennis Ivany. Rested at Emmanuel Pentecostal Church, George's Brook. Funeral service was conducted by Pastor Dennis Newburv on Oct. 12, 2003. Interment at the Milton/George's Brook Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Blundon's Funeral Home, Shoal  Harbour.

Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on Friday, October 24, 2003, Lavenia Smith of Clarenville in her 82nd year. Predeceased by husband, Boyce C. Smith, July 27, 2003. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories; daughters, Dolores (Alex) Balsom and Sandra (Ross) Wiseman; sons, Wayne (Rosalind) and Lorne; grandchildren, Mark (Pam) Balsom, Michelle Smith, Jackie Smith (Andrew), Matthew (Tina) Balsom, Steven (Deanna) Smith, Melissa Wiseman, Allan Smith, Mitchell Wiseman and Brian Smith; great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Ashley, Emily and Avery; and a large number of relatives and friends. Remains resting at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. The funeral will take place at 2 p.m., Monday, October 27 at Central United Church, Random Island, with interment at the United Church Cemetery in Elliott's Cove. Donations in her memory gratefully accepted to the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Health Foundation or a charity of one's choice.

PLOUGHMAN, Mabel
Passed peacefully away at her home in George's Brook on Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, Mabel Ploughman of George's Brook, aged 67 years. Predeceased by her husband Alexander; parents George and Bessie Stanley; brother Ernest; sister Gertrude; daughter Kimberley; grandchildren Fallon and Shane. Left with fond and loving memories her companion Vincent Ploughman of 31 years; daughters Brenda Rozon (Mike) at Mississauga, Glenda Ellis (Morgan) at George's Brook and Kathy (friend Catherine) at George's Brook; sons Randy (Kathleen) at George's Brook, Rick (friend Krista) at George's Brook and Scott (Lori) at George's Brook; sister Margaret Bailey at Ivany's Cove; brothers Gordon (Shirley) at George's Brook, Jack (Emma) at George's Brook, Larry (companion Daisy) at (George's Brook and Charle Vera) at George's Brook; 11 grandchildren: Rodger, Tracey, Kristopher, Tracy, Cory, Randy Jr., Michael, Brandon, Brittany, Mitchell and Jordan; six great-grandchildren: Tyler, Erica, Jordan, Logan, Matthew and Kyle; and a large number of relatives and friends. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral took place Sunday, Oct.19, 2003, at 2 p.m. from the United Church, Milton-George's Brook. Interment at Milton-George's Brook Cemetery.
