BARNES, Captain John J.
Passed peacefully away at the US Memorial Health Care Centre, St. Lawrence on Wednesday, April 5, 2006, Captain John J. Barnes, of Grand Bank, age 80 years. Predeceased by father and mother George and Caroline Barnes; and brothers Amos, Hubert, Norman and Clyde, sisters Hilda and Martha Jane. Leaving to mourn: wife Jean; daughters: Bertha Brenton (Harvey) at Grand Bank, Cheryl Hogan (Jack) at Gander; sons: Reg (Maria) at Winnipeg, Don (Sandy) at St. John's, and Stefan at St. John's; 7 grandchildren: sister Nina West (Stanley) at Bay L'Argent; sisters-in-law: Rachel Barnes at Grand Bank, Gertie Barnes at Deer Lake, and Shirley Barnes at Creston South. Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral Service was conducted by Rev.Michael Li from St. Alban's Anglican Church, Grand Bank on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at 2 p.m. Interment followed at St. Alban's Anglican Cemetery, Grand Bank. Organist was Karen Li. Pallbearers were: Reg. Barnes, Don Barnes, Stefan Barnes, Jordan Barnes, Harvey Brenton and Mike Billard. Funeral arrangements were entrusted tot he care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank, "Where Dedicated People Care."

BROWN, Selina R.
passed peacefully away at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, St. John's on Saturday, April 22, 2006, Selina R. Brown of Grand Bank, age 47 years. Predeceased by mother and father Bridie and Frederick Forsey, and sister Rita. leaving to mourn husband Glenn, son Nelson and Joanne at St. John's four sisters Frances Harris at Sandyville, Audrey Harris (Andrew) at Seal Cove, Fortune Bay, Cora Douglas (Frank) at Grand Bank, Sandra Wells (Wilson) at Grand Bank; three brothers Garfield Forsey (Marjorie) at Seal Cove, Fortune Bay, Cyril Forsey (Marilyn) at Grand Bank, Ross Forsey (Maxine) at Grand Bank; mother-father-in-law Georgina and Raymond Brown at Grand Bank, brothers-in-law Bill Brown (Sue) at Saskatoon, Carl Brown (Jackie) at Grand Bank, and Barry Brown (Cyrstal) at Grand Bank.. Also, a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral Service was conducted by Captain Laverne Fudge and CSM Kathy Bungay from the Salvation Army Citadel, Grand Bank, on Tuesday, April 25th at 2 p.m. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Grand Bank. Music was provided by David Noseworthy and Herbert Dunford. Pallbearers were: Garfield Forsey, Calvin Wells, Alvin Roff, Bill Brown, Albert Peach and Don Chippit. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank, "Where Dedicated People Care."

BRUSHETT, William T. August 1, 1917 - April 22, 2006
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on April 22, 2006, William Brushett of Burin in his 88th year. Predeceased by his wife Isabelle, 2 sons Angus and Bill and grandson Michael. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories sons George and wife Madeline, Ren and Wife Mary, Pad and wife Debbie, Eli and wife Grace, Carl and wife Rosalind, Josh and wife Elaine, John and Junior; daughters Eileen and husband Jack Thornhill, Frankie and husband Steve O'Brien, Patricia and husband Cyril Moore, Maggie and husband John O'Mara; 40 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; adopted sister Tracy Myles plus a large circle of other family and friends. Funeral mass was officiated by Father Charlie Kelly from St. Patrick's Parish Church, Burin on April 25th with interment following at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fox Cove. Pallbearers were Scott O'Brien, Rennie Brushett, Rod Thornhill, Tom Brushett, Rudy Brushett and Dean Brushett. Cross Bearer was Brandon Brushett. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Burin. "WE CARE."

CAKE, Perry Frank
Passed suddenly away at Larose, Louisiana on April 3, 2006, Perry Frank Cake of Lewin's Cove in his 37th year. Leaving to mourn his loving mom Carol and his dad David. Also leaving to mourn his sisters: Cynthia Hogan (Luke) at Ottawa and Beth-Ann Quinton (Ian) at Wembley, Alberta; four nephews: Jordan, Cody, Steven and Aidan and one niece Cassidy, plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Berdina Ford conducted funeral services at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in ship Cove, burin on Wednesday, April 13th. Pallbearers were Geoff Hobbs, Derek Moss, Brian Corrigan, Dwayne Hawkins, Greg Drodge and Fraser Pike. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes, in Salt Pond, Burin.

GRANDY, Wallace Ivan
November 23, 1949 - April 20, 2006

Passed tragically away at sea on April 20, 2006, Wallace Grandy of Garnish in his 56th year. Predeceased by parents Jacob and Laura Grandy, brother Brian Grandy, parents-in-law Thomas and Pearl Grandy all of Garnish. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Wanda, 3 daughters; Lori Snook and husband Tony of Grand Bank, Connie Legge and husband Danny of Garnish and Paula Pardy and husband Darin of Medicine Hat, AB; grandsons: Adam, Donovan and Jayden; granddaughter Malaya; sister Doris Grand and husband Eric of Grand Bank; brothers: Gordon and wife Mary, Marven and wife Margaret, Keith and wife Ethel all of Garnish brothers-in-law Don Grand and wife Judy of Garnish and Duane Grandy and wife Theresa of St. John's also a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service was officiated by Captain Laverne Fudge from Salvation Army Citadel, Garnish on April 24th with interment following at Salvation Army Cemetery, Garnish. Pallbearers were Marvin Grandy, Gordon Grandy, Keith Grandy, Eddie Keeping, Terrace Legge, Kevin Grandy, Clayton Grandy and Tom Grandy. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Burin. "WE CARE."

HOLLETT, Viola
September 15, 1928 - April 14, 2006

Passes away after a long illness at U.S. Memorial Hospital, St. Lawrence on April 14, 2006 Viola Hollett of Lewin's cove in her 77th year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories son Earl (Trudy) of Lewin's cove; daughter Sadie Popovitch of Lewin's Cove; daughter-in-law Matilda Hollett of Salmonier, grandchildren Jeanne Myer (Roger) of Missouri, Earl Holledd(sic*) Jr. of Barrie, Ont, Derek Hollett (Dolly) of NB, Wanda Hollett (Jody) of Alberta, Matthew Paul of Lewin's Cove, Jason Paul (Karen) of Nunavut; great-grandchildren Charity, Joshua and Ethan; sisters Rebecca Foote, Georgina Strickland (Harvey), Gwendolyn Hollett (Paul) plus a large circle of other family and friends. Funeral service was officiated by Rev. T. Russell Lodge from Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, Burin on April 17th with interment following at Hope United Cemetery, Lewin's Cove. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Burin. "WE CARE."

MATTHEWS, Thomas R.
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Sunday, April 23, 2006, Thomas R. Matthews of Grand Bank, age 79 years. Predeceased by father and mother Leonard and Marjorie Matthews, sister Frances and brothers Charles and Wilson. Leaving to mourn wife May; five sons Bill (Vera) at Mount Pearl, Harold (Patty) at Grand Bay, Westfield, New Brunswick, Earl (Michelle) at Grand Bank, Don (Daphne) at Grand Bank, and David (Michelle) at Grand Bank, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four sisters Belle Dennis (Bruce) at Grand Bank, Harriett Welsh (Jabez) at Grand Bank, Anne depasquale (sic) (Gary) at Grand Bank, Esther Hanham (Keith) at Grand Bank. Seven brothers John (Nora) at Ontario, Sidney (Elizabeth) at St. John's, Fred (Mary) at Ontario, Leonard (Miriam) at Grand Bank, Arch (Patricia) at Grand Bank, Carl (Alma) at Grand Bank and Ches (Mildred) at Grand Bank. Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral Service was conducted by Rev. Lewis Crewe from the United Church, Grand Bank on Wednesday, April 26th at 2 p.m. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Grand Bank. Organist was Eileen Evans. Pallbearers were Don Matthews, Colin Matthews, Wilson Rose, Max Hollett, Lloyd Kendell and Charles Bennett Jr. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank, "Where Dedicated People Care."

MAYO, James Joseph
Passed peacefully away at Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, Burin on April 15, 2006, James Joseph Mayo of Creston North in his 83rd year. Predeceased by wife Melinda and sons Rex, Alex and Baby Mayo. Leaving to mourn son: Ross and wife Sheila of Creston South; daughter Maria and husband Ladner Hollett of Salmonier; four grandchildren: Shelley and husband Pat Doyle of Mount Pearl, Janice and husband Dale Brake of St. Albert's, AB, Tina and husband Dwyane Farrell of Fredericton, NB, Todd, Karen of Burin Bay Arm; sisters-in-law Muriel and Dorothy; brother: Abel and brother-in-law Harmen; three great-grandchildren: Joshua, Brody and Tara and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral Services were conducted by Mr. Oscar Elms at Creston North United Church in Creston North on April 18, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Interment was at United Church Cemetery in Creston North. Pallbearers were Ben Brushett, George E. Brushett, Pius Farrell, Ernest Mayo, William Mayo and Todd Mayo. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Geoff Lomond of Peninsula Funeral Home Ltd., Creston South.

MCDONALD, John
Passed peacefully away at his residence in St. Bernard's-Jacques Fontaine, April 16, 2006, John McDonald, formerly of Harbour Breton, in his 58th year. Predeceased by his mother Eveline, father Alex, brother Harold and sister Margaret Sullivan. Leaving to mourn his sisters Doris Cox (Eugene) of Terrenceville, Susan McDonald of Conception Bay and Josephine at St. Catherine's, Ontario; his brother Thomas McDonald in Halifax. Also leaving to mourn his caregiver Mary Brushett and her family, plus, a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Brophy conducted funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Harbour Breton April 19th. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Harbour Breton. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Home in Marystown.

MYLES, Elsie
Passed peacefully away at the U.S. Memorial Health Care Centre April 21, 2006, Elsie Myles of Marystown, formerly of Grand Bank in her 84th year. Predeceased by her husband Verdene in 1978. Leaving to mourn sons Tom (Rena) of Nelson, British Columbia, Arthur (Joyce) of Grand Falls-Windsor and Frank (Jennifer) of Marystown; brother Henry Herridge of Fortune; three grandchildren; plus, a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rev. Oscar Elms conducted funeral service at Creston North United Church, Sunday, April 23rd. Interment was at the United Church Cemetery in Grand Bank. Pallbearers were Fred Dodge, Frank Hillier, Clayton Mayo, Gary Mosher, Verd Perham and don Pope. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral home in Marystown.

MYLES, Gerald Joseph
Passed suddenly away at his home April 22, 2006, Gerald Joseph Myles of St. Bernard's-Jacques Fontaine in his 65th year. Predeceased by his father William Myles. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Loretta, son Gerald Jr. (Raylynn) of Parker's Cove, daughter Patti Wall (Scott) St. Bernard's, his loving mother Julia and mother-in-law Gladys McCarthy; sisters Sheila (Ivan), Lillian (Billy), Edith, Juanita (Clarence) and Doreen (Eddie), brother Pius (Helen), Wallace and Terry; grandchildren Ryley Myles, Scotty and Mackenzie Wall; plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Jeff Kolonel conducted funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic church in St. Bernard's, Wednesday, April 26th. Interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in St. Bernard's. Pallbearers were Michael McCarthy, Pius Myles, Ambrose Stewart, Kevin Hynes, Frank Stewart and Eddie Thornhill. Crossbearers was Jim McCarthy. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Home in Marystown.

RYAN, Joseph
Passed suddenly away at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John's, April 10, 2006, Joseph Ryan of Marystown in his 42nd year. Predeceased by his father Joseph Ryan Sr. Leaving to mourn his loving mom, Theresa, and stepfather Randell. Also left to mourn his sisters Mary (Wally), Patricia (Edward) and Pauline (Hughie); brothers Con and Tom Ryan; nieces Krystal, Kayla and Kendra; nephews Christopher and Mason; plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Charlie Kelly conducted funeral mass at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic church in Marystown Monday, April 24th. interment was at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Penney's Pond, Burin. Pallbearers were Wally Cheeke, John McCarthy, Hughie Slaney, Tom Ryan, Con Ryan and Lee Dober. Crossbearers were Mason Kelly and Pauline Slaney. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Home in Marystown.

STAPLETON, Magdalene
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre April 27, 2006, Magdalene Stapleton of Marystown in her 77th year. Predeceased by her husband Lawrence. Leaving to mourn sons Donald, Ronald (Jean), Larry (Josephine), Fred, Joseph (Kathleen), all of Marystown, Eugene, St. John's, Cyril (Brenda) Cole Lake, Alberta and Calvin (Geraldine) of Toronto; daughters Sue of Ottawa, Dorothy of Toronto, Jennie and Shirley in Fort McMurray and Bridget in Marystown; 31 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Charlie Kelly conducted funeral mass at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic church in Marystown, Saturday, April 29th. Interment was at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Marystown. Pallbearers were sons Donald, Ronald, Frederick, Joseph, Lawrence and Calvin. Crossbearer was Eugene. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes in Marystown.

STRICKLAND, Paul J.
Passed peacefully away at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, St. John's, on Sunday, April 30, 2006, Paul J. Strickland of Point May, age 50 years. Predeceased by parents Lewis and Mary Strickland; father and mother-in-law Allen and Lucy Cake; brother Gordon; and niece Samantha King. Leaving to mourn: wife Rowena; 3 sons, James (Shonagn) at Michigan, Rick at St. John's, Ryan (Trudy) at St. John's, granddaughter Ashley, sister-in-law Gail Strickland at Ontario; 3 brothers Howard (Eileen) at Labrador City; Jerry (Evelia) at Point May; Peter (Karen) at Brandon, Manitoba; 4 sisters Marilyn King (Cecil) at Point May, Judy at St. John's, Christina Edwards (Mike) at Point May, Veronica Spurvey (Pat) at Point May. Also, a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral mass was conducted by Father Regis Kamela from The Most Holy rosary Church, Point May on Wednesday, May 3rd at 11 a.m. Interment followed at The Most Holy Rosary Cemetery, Point May. Music was provided by the choir. Pallbearers were: Jerry Strickland, Peter Strickland, Howard Strickland, Edwin Cake, Keith Cake, and Frank Barnes. Cross Bearer was Wayne Stacey. funeral arrangements were entrusted tot he care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank, "Where Dedicated People Care."
