Passed peacefully away at the Blue Crest Interfaith Home, Grand Bank, Sunday, Sept. 7, Ira G. Barter. He was 87 years old. Predeceased by wife Rachel; daughter Linda May; parents Charles and Lavina; brothers Hughie, Alexander and James. Left to mourn are daughters Anne Fudge (husband Andrew) Jennie Scott (husband Willoughby) at Ramea and Lavina Loveless (husband Sterling) at Grand Bank; sons Hughie (wife Marie) at Grand Bank and Ira at Stephenville; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also leaving to mourn are sister Mary Pike at Burgeo; brothers Jerry (wife Maggie) at Bay d'Espoir and George (wife Winnie) at Louisbourg, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was conducted by Reverend Michael Li 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, from St. Alban's Anglican Church, Grand Bank. Interment was at St. Alban's Anglican Cemetery, Grand Bank. Organist was Karen Li. Pallbearers were Garfield Simms, Edward Myles, James Bungay, Lloyd Kendell, Riley Scott and Roy Morris. BENTEAU, Beatrice M.
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre Tuesday, Sept. 2, Beatrice M. Benteau of Point May. She was 75 years old. Left to mourn are husband Simon; sons Garfield (Nora), Robert (Cathy) Simon (Eileen) and Pius all at Point May, Gus (Darlene) at Grand Bank and Rick (Tracey) at Edmonton; daughter Cecilia (Gordon) at Fortune; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn are sister Louise Dunne (Ben), brother Jim Caines (Stella) and sister-in-law Lucy Caines at Fortune and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass was conducted by Father Frank Puddister and Sister Maureen Lawlor Thursday Sept 4, at 2 p.m. from the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, Point May. Interment followed at Roman Catholic Cemetery, Point May. Pallbearers were her grandsons Trevor Benteau, Deon Benteau, Chad Benteau, Blair Benteau, Travis Benteau and Dwayne Benteau. Cross bearer was her granddaughter Amanda Shea. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank. "Where dedicated people care."

Passes peacefully away at Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre Saturday, Aug 23, Henry Bolt of Grand le Pierre. He was 88 years old. Predeceased by father Edward and mother Lucinda; brothers William, Mark, James and John; sisters Elizabeth, Annie and Sarah. Left to mourn are brother Thomas Bolt of Bay L'Argent and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Reverend Charlie Harris conducted funeral service at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Grand le Pierre Wednesday, Aug 27 at 1 p.m. Interment was at Anglican Cemetery, Grand le Pierre. Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on September 14th, 2003 Elizabeth Broomfield of Winterland in her 80th year. Predeceased by husbands Clyde and Verner, baby son Frederick, 1 sister and 3 brothers. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories sons George Loughlin (Laura) of Red Harbour and Bill Broomfield (Christine) of Winterland; daughters Jean (John Clarke) of Creston South and Annie (Lorne Newport) of Winterland; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren plus a large circle of other family and friends. Rev. Jean Lane officiated funeral service on September 16. from Grace United Church, Winterland with interment following at UC Cemetery, Winterland. BRUSHETT, Cornelius
Passed peacefully away Sept. 13, at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, Cornelius Brushett of Parker's Cove. He was 92 years old. Predeceased by two sons, two daughters and sisters Mary and Anne. Left to mourn are his loving wife Jessie; sons John (wife Agatha) of Parker's Cove, William (wife Nina), Albert (wife Mary), Joe (wife Angie) of Bay L'Argent and George (Sandra) of Marystown; daughters Ida (husband Tom Barnes), Bertha (husband Howard Mitchell) of Bay L'Argent, Bernadine (husband Tony) of Alberta, Annie of St. John's, Frances (husband Rubert Lundrigan) of Marystown and Violet (husband Kenneth Farrell) of Marystown; 25 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Steve Murrin conducted funeral Mass at Roman Catholic Church, Parker's Cove, Tuesday, Sept. 16. Interment was at Roman Catholic Cemetery, Parker's Cove. Passed away suddenly September 10th, 2003 Gordon Stanley Brushett of Burin in his 71st year. Predeceased by parents Hubert and Jessie and brother Jim. Passed suddenly away Sept. 17, at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's, Louis Hodder of St. Bernard's. He was 78 years old. Predeceased by both parents, five brothers, three sisters and grandchild Sheri-Lynn Myles. HODDER, Ronald Howard
Ronald Howard Hodder
, beloved husband of Shirley Hodder of Brooks, Alberta passed away in Brooks on September 1, 2003. Age 58 years. Born in Creston North, Newfoundland on October 23, 1944 Ron graduated from high school and received his Electrical and Welding Diploma there. He and Shirley MacAskill were married on February 3, 1968 in Sudbury, Ontario and he worked at the Marystown Shipyard for 26 years as a carpenter. They moved to Brooks on September 1, 2000 and he worked at Lakeside Packers for three years in building and maintenance with special projects. He loved his family, boat building, fishing and camping. Ron was predeceased by mother Alice and infant brother. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley, sons Darin, Jason (wife Sandra), Brad, all of Brooks, Ron (wife Lori Ann) and their son Christopher of Paradise. Also leaving to mourn are father Hayward Hodder of Creston North, sisters Lydia (James) Mallay and Emily (William) Taylor, brother Earl (Edna) Hodder and Gerald (Carrie) Hodder and a large number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4 from Brooks United Church, Brooks. Reverend George Edmonds officiated. Honorary pallbearers were all of Ron's family and friends. Active pallbearers were Glen Power, Reuben Mayo, Jason Mayo, Craig Inkpen, David Mercer and Edward Whittle. Interment followed at Brooks Cemetery. Arrangements were in care of Smith Funeral Homes, Brooks, Alberta. KELLY, JOHN Sr.
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, Captain John Kelly Sr. of Beau Bois. He was 66 years old. Predeceased by father Ignatius, brothers-in-law Lewis Antle and John Seaward. Left to mourn are his loving wife Susan; children Sherry-Lynn of P.E.I., Darryl (wife Tracy) of Marystown, Elizabeth (Joe) of St. John's and John (wife Bernadette) of Clarke's Beach. Also leaving to mourn mother Elizabeth Kelly, sister Mary Antle Seaward, brothers Bob Kelly (wife Margaret) and Jerome Kelly (wife Eileen), nine grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. MAY, Maria Jane
Passed peacefully away at the Saint John Regional Hospital in New Brunswick Tuesday, Sept. 16, Maria Jane May of Grand Bank, aged 83 years. Predeceased by husband Thomas, daughter Henrietta, son Freeman and sister Beatrice Crews, Left to mourn are sons James (spouse Carole - Nee McSorley), Howard (spouse Jeanette - nee Lake) and Lloyd (spouse Marlene - nee Bower); daughters Marjorie Fizzard (partner Lorne Greene) and Marilyn Fanjoy (spouse Dennis Fanjoy); 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. Funeral service was conducted by Reverend Ray Case from Warren's Funeral Home Saturday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m. Interment followed in the United Church Cemetery, Grand Bank. Music was provided by Tom Cumben Jr. Pallbearers were Gordon May, Doug Crews, Ryan Fanjoy, John Ben Crews, Norman May and Lorne Greene. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank and Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home in Saint John, New Brunswick. PEACH, Walter R
Passed away suddenly at Monkstown, Wednesday, Aug. 20, Walter R. Peach, formerly of Grand Bank. He was 85 years old. Predeceased by wife Flora, son Clarence, parents Leander and Cecilia. Left to mourn are sons Maxwell (Pauline) of South Dildo, Donald (Judy) and Sandy (Marguerite) of Grand Bank and Ambrose (Jackie) of Winterland; daughters Mildred (Merrill) of Grand Bank and Rosalind (Randell) of Port Moody, British Columbia; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Caroline Smith of Grand Bank, brother Jim of Foxtrap and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was conducted by Pastor Geoffrey Ryan, assisted by Pastor Laun Brushett, Pastor Philip Bailey and Major Rita Pittman from Calvary Pentecostal Church, Creston North, Saturday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. Interment followed in the Calvary Pentecostal Cemetery. Soloists were Pastor and Mrs. Bailey. Musicians were Pastor Philip Bailey, Trudy Bailey, Bradley Dawe and grandson Andrew Peach. Ushers were Robert Dicks and William Peach Jr. Pallbearers were Cecil Peach, Reuben Peach, Steve Parr, Wade Butler, Dale Moulton and Terry Moulton. PIERCEY, Susie Elizabeth
Passed peacefully away Sept. 19 at the Harbour Breton Health Care Centre, Susie Elizabeth Piercey of Big Salmonier, Burin. She was 88 years old. Predeceased by husband George, brothers Edward and Jim, sisters Pearl and Violet. Left to mourn are son Wilson (wife Ethel) of Big Salmonier; daughters Laura (husband Shirley Banfield) of Hermitage, Elsie Loveless of Grand Bank and Lillian (Edward Carter) of Burgeo. Also leaving to mourn are sister Rachel Spencer; brothers Harold, Frank, Jo and John Piercey, 11 grandchildren. 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Reverend Charlie Harris conducted funeral service at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Burin Monday, Sept. 22. Interment was at Anglican Cemetery, Hodder's Point. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes, Salt Pond, Burin. Pallbearers were Gerald Drake, Troy Drake, Gerald Mayo, Robie Beazley, Quin Carter and Darrell Hillier.

Passed away at Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on August 29, 2003, John James Scott of Marystown in his 59th year. Predeceased by father, Levi Scott, sister, Florence, father-in-law Joseph Hooper. Leaving to mourn wife Sylvia, daughters: Lori (husband Jamie Hollett) of Alberta, Renee of Clarenville, mother, Anna Scott, Marystown and mother-in-law Gertrude Hooper, Rock Harbour; sisters; Gladys, husband Maxwell Foote, Collins Cove, Jessie Pardy, Marystown, Mary, husband, Brian Miller, Marystown; brothers; Henry Scott (wife Sylvia), Old Shop, Trinity Bay; Levi Scott (wife Helen), Creston South and a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev.Robert Peddle at St. Peter's Anglican Church in Rock Harbour, on Sept. 1st, at 3:00 p.m. Interment was at St. Peter's Anglican Cemetery in Rock Harbour. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Peter's Anglican Church Fund. Pallbearers were: Joe Brushett, Keith Hollett, Levi Scott, Colin Hodder, Albert Thorne, Eric Foote. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Geoff Lomond of Peninsula Funeral Home Ltd., Creston South.

STACEY, Christopher Marcel
Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John's, Saturday, Aug. 30 Christopher Marcel Stacey of Lamaline. He was 23 years of age. Predeceased by father Marcel and grandfather Peter Stacey. Left to mourn are mother Barbara Stacey at Lamaline; sisters Lori Anne Haley (husband Ken), Connie Maddigan (husband Ken) at Barrie, Ontario and Erika at Lamaline; brother Lorne at Barrie, Ont. Also leaving to mourn grandmother Elsie Stacey at Point May, grandfather and grandmother William and Alma Hepditch at Lamaline plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was conducted by Father Frank Puddister, Sister Maureen Lawlor and Reverend J. Pollard 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, from St. Joseph's Church, Allan's Island. Interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery, Lamaline. Pallbearers were Clint Walsh, Colin King, Christopher Foote, Dwayne Flemming, Jimmy Harris and Stephen King. Cross bearer was David Stacey. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank. "Where dedicated people care."
As a footnote to this obituary, the followed article appeared in the same edition of the newspaper.
"The 23-year old victim of a recent accident on the Burin Peninsula Highway near Lamaline passed away as a result of his injuries, Aug. 30. Christopher Marcel Stacey was airlifted to the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's after the vehicle left the road Aug. 23, at about 4 a.m. Two other occupants of the vehicle were treated for non life threatening injuries.

WALSH, Michael T.
Passed peacefully away at the U.S. Memorial Health Care Centre Monday, Aug. 25, Michael T. Walsh of Marystown. He was 91 years old. Predeceased by wife Eileen, son Michael and daughter-in-law Maureen. Leaving to mourn are sons Emile, Stan (wife Alberta), Chester (wife Mary) and Joe (wife Lillian) of Marystown; daughter Susanna. Also left to mourn are sister Carm Brake, Hanna Farrell and Kate Kilfoy; special nephew Gerald Walsh; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father Charlie Kelly conducted funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Marystown Wednesday, Aug. 27. Interment was at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery, Marystown. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of White Dove Funeral Homes, Marystown. Pallbearers were Emile Walsh, Stan Walsh, Chester Walsh, Joe Walsh, Gerald Walsh and Kevin Brewer. Cross bearer was Bob Walsh.

Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on September 15th, 2003 Angus Walters of Garnish in his 76th year. Predeceased by parents Samuel and Phoebe and sisters Gladys and Charlotte. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Gertie; sons Gerald (Carolyn) of Garnish and Wade (Eugenia) of Marystown; daughters Edna (Enos May) of Garnish and Debbie (Patrick Power) of Mooring Cove; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brother Ernest John Walters of Garnish plus a large circle of other family and friends. Rev. Robert Peddle officiated funeral service on September 18th from St. Gile's Anglican Church, Garnish with interment following at Anglican Cemetery, Garnish. Pallbearers were Enos May, Les Price, Gord Myles, Michael Power, Patrick Power and John Caines. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Burin. "WE CARE."
