She leaves to celebrate her life, her children Rick (Anna), Margot (Tony) and Ann; grandchildren: Noah, Isaac, Simon and their father John Power Jr., Elliot (Sarah) his mother Denise, Francesca (Chris), Franco, Sophia, John-Paul and David; her sister Evelyn (predeceased Carl); three sisters-in-law: Joan Davis, Marlene Fitzgerald and Rita Quinton, many nieces, nephews, good friends and neighbors. Mom was a life long member of the Woman's Institute. She often told us she missed meeting with the ladies to do their crafts. Her kitchen was always the hub of activity where family and friends alike would gather either to sew, quilt, a good game of cards or to watch Jeopardy. We were never encouraged to discuss religion or politics (too divisive) but any other topic was game as long as you "put the kettle on". No better role model could ever have been. Mom and Dad grew up in Musgravetown, the greatest small town in which to live, loved the community and chose to raise kids there. Her later years were spent back and forth between Musgravetown and Conception Bay South and finally she moved to the Agnes Pratt Nursing Home. We are ever thankful for her roommate Sophia, in whom mom found a loving, caring and spiritual friend, who also shared a love of knitting! We would like to thank Sophia and her beautiful family for all the wonderful companionship at Agnes Pratt. Our family also wishes to thank the staff at Agnes Pratt for their wonderful care of our mother Shirley. A special thank you to Don Greening who took care of her gardens in Musgravetown. Her passing was quick from congestive heart-failure. She was surrounded by her daughter Ann and seven grandchildren and a niece. Visitation will be held at Barrett's Funeral Home 73 Commonwealth Ave., Mt. Pearl on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. In the past Shirley lamented, "I wish there was a phone in heaven so that I could talk to Aunt Sue".

HARRIS, Millicent - (1912-2016) - On April 24, 2016 our much loved Mother, Millicent Dawe Harris, 'slipped the surly bonds of earth (to) dance the skies on laughter-silvered wings'. She lived a phenomenal 103 years and danced on both her 101 and 102 birthdays.
Born in 1912 in Summerville, Mother was the eldest of the ten children of George and Sarah (Butt) Dawe and outlived all her siblings. Predeceased too by Dad, Leslie Harris, and her infant son Donald, her memory will be treasured by her three daughters; Elayne, Sandra (Colin Dorren), and Eleanor (Bob Sutherby), grandchildren; Nola (Brian Rideout), Tisha, Nicholas, Joshua, great-grandson Owen, her devoted sister-in-law, Marie Harris (Hector), multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, legions of former pupils, community members, and friends far and wide.
At 17, she realized her childhood dream of teaching, stopped when she married Dad in 1945 (as was expected in that day), and eagerly returned to classrooms when her youngest child was 5. She taught intermittently in 10 different communities over 30 years; from all-grade one-room schools to "special need" children in a larger school. Teaching was a career and a calling; a profession she adored.
In every community and region where she lived, Mother was active in both church and community life; church choir, organist, Sunday School, church suppers, Explorers, C.G.I.T, U.C.W, U.C. Presbytery, (sold the U.C. Observer for 5 decades), Red Cross, Young Voyagers, Girl Guides, NL Retired Teachers Association and numerous other organizations and causes; notably as a nonagenarian, H.A.V.E. Walk for Water (wells for India). She was a super-mom too; nourishing us with three home cooked meals daily, as well as oven-fresh desserts; sewed us costumes for Sports Days, and taught us her favorite songs. She also assigned non-negotiable chores. Berry picking (all kinds), was high among them, and baffling to us, nothing but a delight for her.
Another of her passions was music, and she gave piano and organ lessons to hundreds of children and adults.
Mother was curious about the world. She loved to travel, the Boston States in her 20s, all regions of the island, most Canadian provinces, and later Hawaii, Britain and Europe. Hearing a full orchestra play Mozart and Beethoven in an outdoor park in Austria transported her.
Cremation has taken place. A church service in her honor will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 2 pm, at Faith United Church in Glovertown. All are welcome there and at a tea immediately after. Friends are also welcome at our Glovertown house (5 Pinetree Road) on Thursday evening (7-9 pm) and Friday afternoon (2-4 pm), to reminisce and celebrate her remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, we suggest contributions to the Millicent and Leslie Harris Scholarship Fund c/o Bank of Nova Scotia, P.O. Box 130, Glovertown, NL, A0G 2L0, 1-800-472-6842.
Mother did not like black clothes, for herself or anyone else, and directed us NOT to wear black at her funeral. We love her and will obey. Daughters: Eleanor, Sandra and Elayne.

God looked around His garden
And found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered "Peace be thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.

IVIMEY, John Bramwell - Master Warrant Officer (Ret), age 92, on Friday, April 15, 2016. A beloved, generous and adored husband, father, "poppy" and "uncle Bram" to many, he died peacefully, surrounded by his wife of 62 years, Audrey; his children; grandchildren; and extended family. "Poppy" was born in 1924, in Cupids, Newfoundland, to Heber and Flora Ivimey. He was the youngest of five children; his sister Verna and brothers Frederick and Valance - all died before dad was 16, leaving the young "Bram" - as he was called in Newfoundland - and his sister, Lily, to help their aging parents.
After serving with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment in World War II, and with the Canadian Forces in Korea, he returned to Newfoundland and married the girl from Brigus - Audrey Trickett -- in 1954. They started their family in St. John's and after dad served a year-long UN posting in Gaza, they moved to Fredericton and finally to Kingston in 1965. After 26 years of service, he retired from the Canadian Armed Forces and worked as an accountant at Secker & Ross Chartered Accountants and at the S&R Department Store, where he instilled a passion and knack for accounting to three of his sons. He retired at age 85 after a serious illness and the closure of S&R.
He leaves behind his wife, Audrey; his children - Fred (Sharon), Ruth (Doug), Bill (Judy), Jeff (Ellen), Lori (Shawn), Donna (Dan), and Robert (Peelu); his adoring grandchildren - Kai (Maddee); Calvin (Faith); Michelle (Jesse); Candice (Alex); Vanessa (Drew); Lilly (Scott); Jacquelyn; Danica (Lucas); Johnny, Stuart (Michelle), Kenny (Leah), Bobby, Arjun, Emma, Maya and Audrey; and his great grandchildren Haylie, Riley, Carson and Ryder. The family awaits the arrival and celebration of another great grandson any day now. Uncle Bram was a special uncle to his sister Lily's children - John and Verna Loder - and to the Taylors - whose families were touched by the early loss of a beloved parent.
He was a jovial brother in-law and warm, fun-loving uncle to the Hiscock, Trickett and Snow families. Good-natured, but extremely stubborn (he still cheered for the Maple Leafs), he insisted on living his final years in the family home, something he could not have done without the devotion of his wife, his extended family and friends, and in particular his grandson, Kai. He was blessed with a patient and caring wife, a large and loving family, generous friends and neighbours, wonderful co-workers, and by many years of good health. The family is especially grateful for the healthcare dad received - the nurses, doctors, physio and occupational therapists, paramedics and homecare workers - all who helped to make his final years comfortable. Every extra day of dad's good health and humour was a blessing and his passing could not have been any more gentle and fitting for such a sweet man. The family will receive friends at ROBERT J. REID & SONS - The Chapel on the Corner, 309 Johnson Street, Kingston, Ontario from 2-4 and 6-9pm on Wednesday, April 20th. A memorial service will be held in the chapel on Thursday April 21 at 11:00 a.m. Donations in our father's memory may be made to the Cupids Legacy Centre http://cupidslegacycentre.ca/ or to a charity of your choice. Ken enjoyed being involved in community service and had many achievements with his involvement with Woody Point Town Council as Mayor, (following in his grandfather's footsteps who was the first Mayor of Woody Point).
