BAKER, Amelia (Carter) - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Hospital on August 22, 2001, Amelia (Miller) Baker, retired teacher, aged 75 years. Leaving to celebrate and thank God for a long and happy life, her husband Rod; daughters: Paula (Rick Fifield) and Heather (Bruce Saunders); son Rick (Karen Norris); and sister Frances Carter; grandchildren: Michael (Lisa Bruce), Catharine and Peter Fifield, Timothy (Lesley Andrews) and Katie Saunders and Andrew Baker; special friend Betty Beck and many cousins, relatives and friends; also members of her club: Mabel, Carrie, Clara, Doris and Mary. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. Visitation on Friday, August 24 and Saturday, August 25 from 12-4 and 7-9. Funeral Service on Sunday, August 26 at 2:30 p.m. from St. John the Evangelist Church, Topsail. Private family interment. No flowers by request. Predeceased by his parents, Ann and Nicholas; his sisters: Annie and Bernadette; his brothers: Richard and Gregory; and his son-in-law Kenneth Tubrett. Leaving to mourn with fond and memories are his wife, Patricia (nee Costigan); his two daughters: Mary Dalton and Geraldine Tubrett; his five sons: Alfred (Myrna), Patrick (Iris), Joe (Stephanie), George and Tom; his eight grandchildren: Denise (Deon Doyle), Glenn Tubrett (Andreea Adari), Heather, Susan, Patrick, Nicholas, Nicole and Mark Dalton; his brother Lawrence (Margaret); his five sisters: Bell (William Kelly), Madeline (Raymond Tubrett), Ester, Margaret and Florence. Also numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, many of whom telephoned and visited him daily during his illness. Resting at Dunphy's Funeral Home, Holyrood. Leaving to mourn, her husband of 66 years, Pat, St. Patrick's Home; daughters: Agnes Ebbs, Topsail, Rita and husband John Janes, St. John's; sons: Dominic and wife Eleanor (McNamara), James and wife Regina (McBride), and Pat, Topsail. Sisters: Gertrude Howell, St. John's, and Tessie Butt, Carbonear; brother Tom Gear and wife Lucy, Stephenville; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren together with many beloved nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Richard and Cecily (Hogan) Gear; sister Margaret and brother James. Mrs. McCarthy was a member of the Catholic Women's League.
