Predeceased by her mother and father, Moses and Violet Anthony, and her sister Doris Armand. Predeceased by her husband Charles, parents Albert and Louise Pretty, brother Alan and sister Vida Pinsent (Sid), Dildo, T.B. She leaves to mourn one loving daughter Janet (Gerard MacLean), Nova Scotia, six sons: Peter (Sadie), Nova Scotia, Edward (Millie), Bernie, Gerry (Evelyn), Joe (Annette), Brian (Patty), St. John`s, as well as two sisters, Ina Newhook (Andrew) and Edna Pretty. Also leaving to mourn 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a large circle of relatives and friends. BENSON, Ethel (nee Pitcher) - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She passed this life quietly on Monday, December 15, 2003 at the Glenbrook Lodge Nursing Home in her 94th year. Predeceased by her best friend and husband Eleazer (Bense), January 1997. Left with loving memories are her "one and only" daughter Lynne (David); her granddaughter Kathie; her great-granddaughter Ashlie, and Kathie`s father Basil. Also her sisters-in-law: Irene (Jack), Susie (Toronto) and Stella (Florida); many nieces, nephews, cousins, special cousins: Cecil Benson (Pearl), Audrey Lindstrom (Robert), Thomas Benson (Shirley), Rev. Gerald Benson (Ruth) and other relatives and friends. BOLAND, Catherine - Passed peacefully away in the presence of her family and staff on December 11, 2003, at the Hoyles Escasoni, Catherine Boland of Calvert, age 83. Predeceased by her loving husband Francis Boland; granddaughter, Rhonda Goulding; and great-granddaughter, Stephanie Walsh. Leaving to celebrate her life, love, courage, strength and shining light are: Emma White (John), Molly Embanks (Wes), Margaret Reddy (William), Bridget Goulding, Francis Boland, Terrance Boland, Edna Boland, and Richard Harvey (Brenda); nineteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters: Monica Rossiter, Dorothy Mackintosh; a large number of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends and her community. Also, fondly remembered by Jim Harvey and Hubert Goulding. The family gratefully acknowledges the support, love, care, respect and dignity given to Mom during her time at Hoyles Escasoni by staff and volunteers and residents. You are truly angels in clouds of tears and uncertainty. Thank you for making the transition easy for us. You were our guiding light. Leaving to mourn her sister, Vera {Paul Ostapeic} also many nieces, nephews and friends. Cremation will take place at Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander. Memorial service and interment will be held at All Saints Church, English Harbour, Trinity Bay in June 2004.

BUTT, Marilyn - passed peacefully away at the Health Science Complex on Wednesday, December 24, 2003, after a five-year courageous battle with the horrific A.L.S. {Lou Gehrigs Disease}. Marilyn Butt {nee Clarke}, Foxtrap. Age 47 years. Predeceased by her only brother Rodney, 1993, brother-in-law Jim Caravan, 2001. Left with fond and loving memories her husband and best friend Dave. Two precious daughters Kristin and Katie. Parents, George and Emily Clarke, Long Pond. Special sister Mary Caravan, Bay Roberts; sister-in-law, Sylvia Chaytor {Clarence}, brother in-law Reg Butt {Sharon}, brother-in-law Kerry Butt and numerous other relatives and friends. BYRNE, Mary (Minnie) (nee Galway) - Born in Harbour Grace, NL July 8, 1915, passed away in The Priory in Victoria, BC on December 16, 2003. Predeceased by her husband Peter; son Peter R.; brothers: James and John and sister Bridget Byrne. Minnie is remembered by her sister Alice Burke; children: Bill (Darlene), Betty (Guy) Hanahan, Alice Lambert, Blair (Thurley), Eric (Margarita), Wally (Cathy), Bob (Mona) and Peg (Ron) Gardiner; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; daughters-in-law: Dorothy, Edna and Debbie. She was raised and lived on Bell Island until moving to Victoria in 1969. Mom will be greatly missed for the love and joy she gave to her family and friends, and the many prayers for all of us. HARTLEY CARAHUAPOMA, Vicente - Passed peacefully away on Dec. 7, 2003 at the Miller Centre Palliative Care unit, after a courageous battle with cancer. To mourn his sad loss is his family in Lima, Peru, mother Alicia Hartley Carahuapoma, three sisters Gladis and Haydee and families in Lima, Alicia and family in Australia; two brothers Victor and Ricardo and families, Lima, Peru. HILLIER, Harold Kelso (Grand Falls - Windsor)- It is with great sadness and loving memories that the family of Harold Kelso Hillier of Grand Falls-Windsor announce his passing Dec. 26, 2003 at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre in Botwood. He was 83. Predeceased by his wife, Beatrice (Reid) on Dec. 4, 2003 and his parents, Horatius and Florence (Perry). Left with loving memories are sons, Terry (Lynne) and Ken (Pauline) of Grand Falls-Windsor; daughters, Arlene of Grand Falls-Windsor, Nancy of Lower Sackville, NS and Kathy (Steve Miller) of Lower Sackville, NS; grandchildren, Neil, Nicole and Heather; three sisters, Gwendolyn (the late Millard) Jeans, Evelyn (the late Lee) Noble and Gladys Beck; one brother, Cyril (Barb); and other relatives and friends. Harold retired from Abitibi-Price in 1984 after 37 years of service. He was a member of Branch 12, Royal Canadian Legion, having served overseas in North Africa, Sicily and Italy with the 166 Newfoundland Field Regiment, Royal Artillery, and was one of the first Life Members of Branch 12. He also served many years as branch secretary. Harold was well-known for his involvement with amateur hockey on local, provincial and national levels, and has received recognition for his efforts on many occasions. In 1984 he was named Executive of the Year by the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association and in 1995 received the Order of Merit Award from the Canadian Hockey Association. In 1995 he was named to the Newfoundland Amateur Hockey Association Hall of Fame. In 1998 he was made a Life Member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Hockey Association after 32 years service. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Ray Cole on Dec. 30, 2003 at Memorial United Church, Grand Falls-Windsor. Interment was at the United Church Cemetery, Union Street, Grand Falls-Windsor. Pallbearers were Jim Molloy, Fred Ivany, Silas Thompson, Jim Day, Don Hiscock and Raymond Critchley, members of Branch 12, Royal Canadian Legion. Andrew Gunn played The Last Post. SNOW, Hugh C. - Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick`s Mercy Home on Thursday, December 4, 2003, at the age of 85. A native of Clarke`s Beach, Conception Bay, and an ex-Sergeant with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, he retired in 1966 after 25 years service, and went on to a second career with Holiday Inn in St. John`s. He was also a long-term resident on Howley Ave. Ext., a devoted family man, and a dependable friend to many of his neighbors and co-workers. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary (nee Rose); two children: Doreen Singleton of St. John`s, and Hugh M. Snow and wife Lucille of Halifax, NS; five grandchildren: Carolyn, Andrea and Karl Singleton and Jonathan and Rebecca Snow. He will also leave behind a large circle of relatives and friends. Left with fond and loving memories, his three sons, two daughters, six grandchildren; also two sisters, other family and friends. Bob was a Toronto Maple Leaf fan. He was a very proud Hockey Dad. He spent most of his time at the arena with his grandson. He will be greatly missed. Burial has already taken place in Mississauga. Remembered always by his sister-in-law Florence Tucker, her daughters: Carol Ann, Charmaine, Elaine, Miranda, Lisa and their families.

Predeceased by his parents, Walter and Mary Walsh; brothers: Mark and James; sisters: Katherine (Kate), Ethel and Gertrude; grandson: Glen and great-grandson: Kyle. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Alice of 64 years; son Mark; daughters: Margaret, Gertie (Stan) and Marina (Dave); twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and a large circle of family and friends. A special thank you is extended to the staff of the Harbour Lodge Nursing Home for their compassion and care during his stay and to his special friend, Sam, for all your help and companionship over the past few months. He was a man who loved to play the accordion and has so since the age of nine in many communities and functions in Bay de Verde and the surrounding areas.
