She was predeceased by her husbands, Gordon Pike (March 1, 1980) and Heber Vokey (March 4, 2004). Hazel was the youngest child of Annabella and Alexander Best of Wesleyville. She was predeceased also by her sisters Mary (Polly) Tiller and Mildred King, and her brothers Joe, Fred, Lester, and Sandy Best. She leaves to mourn her loving and grateful children Gordon Pike (Daphne), Betty Wells (Dick, deceased), Mildred Case (Rev. Lloyd), and Linda Pike. She was a cherished grandmother to Lester and Geoffrey Pike, Richard, Catherine, and Martha Wells, Andrew, Stephen, and Jonathan Case, and Bud, Alex and Dan Clarke. She will be sadly missed by her ten great-grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered by Heber's children Lorraine, Chester, Calvin, Jean, Myra, Joy, Bonnie, Clarence, Robin and Kim, and their families, She is survived also by sisters-in-law Eliza Pike and Olga Pike and many nieces and nephews from the Best family of Wesleyville and the Pike family of Spaniard's Bay. Hazel moved to Spaniard's Bay in 1937 but remained intensely proud of her Wesleyville heritage. She worked very hard to raise her children, all four of whom were born within five years. She loved Holy Redeemer Anglican Church, and she was an active parishioner for 47 years. She took delight in being with friends and family, but was happiest of all when berrypicking on the hills over Conception Bay. The family wish to express heartfelt thanks to Dr. Hannaford and the staff of the Dialysis Unit at the Waterford Hospital and to her excellent and loving caregivers at the Masonic Park Nursing Home. Cremation has taken place. At Hazel's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. She will be buried on Maul Tree Hill, Spaniard's Bay in the Spring.
