ALLEN, Anne Marie - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, on February 28, 2012, Anne Marie Allen, aged 78 years. Predeceased by her husband George (1989); parents Charles and Mary O'Reilly; brothers: William, Edward, James, Michael, Patrick, and Walter; and sister Madonna. Leaving to mourn, her long-time companion Basil Young and family; loving children: Wayne (June), Dianne (Rick), Debbie (Duane), Marion (Ron), Roxanne (Wally), Robert (Marie), Sharon, James (Penny), George (Mary), and Peggy (Calvin); precious grandchildren: Stephanie, Chris, Tonia, Steven, Kimberley, Daniel, Keelan, Kyle, Keanna, Mason, Emily, Liam, Amy, Dakota, Devaughn, Tommy, Calvin, and Nanny's pride and joy Grace; her great-grandchildren: Roman, Austen, Sophia, and Aaron; brothers: Ron, Charles (Marie), Ambrose; sisters: Legora, and Jenny; brother-in-law: Cyril (Sharon) Allen and family; sister-in-law: Marion (Kevin Hynes) and family; special niece Sandra; special nephew Patrick; as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. ANDREWS, Catherine Mary (October 29th, 1946)- Passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012, in her 66th year, after complication from heart surgery. She will be a dearly missed mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. Left to mourn are children: Michael Andrews, Mark Andrews (Lynn) and Victoria Fillier (Bob); grandchildren: Samantha, Caitlin, Bobby and Rebecca; sibling: Joan McGean (Dan); extended family, sisters-in-law: Rowena Walsh and Gwen Walsh; nieces and nephews: Cheryl Walsh, Greg McGean, Chris Walsh and Lauri Walsh. Predeceased by husband: David Andrews; parents: John Walsh and Theresa Walsh; brothers: Martin Walsh and David Walsh. ARCHIBALD, S. Louise - Passed peacefully away in the presence of her loving family at the Carbonear General Hospital on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, S. Louise Archibald of Harbour Grace, age 88 years. Predeceased by husband Cecil and son David, parents Henley and Elizabeth (Noel) Crane, brothers Gordon and Albert. AYLES, Angelina - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John's on Sunday, February 5, 2012, Angelina Ayles of Port Rexton, aged 91 years. Predeceased by her husband Benjamin and children Alex and Gloria. Left with fond and loving memories her daughter Glenda (Cliff Mouland), sons Roy (Helen), Doug (Teresa), Larry (Linda) and Ron (Barbara); grandchildren Debbie, Ian and Connie; great-grandchildren Naomi, Kaine, Noah, Allysa, Keileigh and Ciara; brothers Roy and James Price; sisters-in-law Myrtis Chippitt, Emily White, Sally Huges and Peggy Ayles; and a large circle of family and friends. BAIRD (nee Murphy), Marguerite - Passed peacefully away at Chancellor Park on Monday, February 27, 2012 at the age of 86. Predeceased by her husband Frank, parents James and Gertrude Murphy, and her brother Kevin. Leaving to mourn her first cousin Mary Barron and family; niece and nephew Sherry and Brian of Ontario; as well as the staff and residents of Chancellor Park. Marguerite's family wishes to thank the staff of Chancellor Park for their care, kindness and friendship over the past five years. In accordance with Marguerite's wishes, funeral services will be held at a later date.

BAKKER, Shannon (nee Payn) - 1976 - 2012. RPN - Rosewood Retirement Home. Born in St John's, NL - Passed away suddenly at KGH on February 2, 2012 after a valiant struggle to live, so that she could be a part of the lives of her beloved husband Chris and her adored daughters Abagail and Emily. Left to mourn forever are her loving parents Don and Genny and much loved brother Matthew Payn (Allison McCulloch). Predeceased by her brother Donnie (1990). Also left to mourn are her loved father-in-law Andy Bakker (Lorette), brother-in-law Jack (Nancy), nieces Olivia, Charlotte and Sophia and brother-in-law Peter (Sabrina) and nieces Avery and Tegan. Shannon was loved by her grandmothers Mary Payn and Elizabeth Halbot. Holding her deeply in their hearts are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and very dear friends. Also left to mourn are her birth father Doug Burry (Eileen) and extended birth family in Edmonton, Alta. Being a nurse herself Shannon would have wanted to acknowledge Dr. Michael O'Reilly and all of the staff from Davies 3, and the CSU team for their above and beyond support. BANFIELD, Glenn Stephen - Passed peacefully away on February 7, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer, Glenn Stephen Banfield, at the age of 44 years. Leaving to mourn with cherished memories his best friend and partner, Susy Hollett; his parents: Donald and Georgina and sister Krista; Susy's family including her parents Phil and Ada Hollett and brother Chris (Teri) and Andrew (Kerry). Also leaving to mourn special friend and cousin Tom Mugford and a large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Cremation has taken place. BARRON, James A. - Passed peacefully away in St. John's on February 3, 2012, James A. Barron in his 76th year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Florence. The best dad in the world will be sadly missed by his 5 children: Lynne (Scott Porter), Thomas, Betti Anne (Rick Giammarino), Lana (Robert Nielsen), and Todd (April). Papa Barron was dearly loved by 13 grandchildren: Gavin and Garrett Hunt and Kyle Porter; Wynona and Emma Barron; Alyssa, Rebecca and Katie Giammarino; Kyrsten, Aaron and Devin Nielsen; Jadyn and Evan Barron; and 2 great-grandchildren. Jim was predeceased by his parents Mary & Michael Barron of Holyrood. He is survived by his brother Lawrence Barron (Josephine) and sister Theresa (Bill Janes). Jim served in the Royal Canadian Navy (13885-H) and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 1. He was also a member of The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Veterans Association and Knights of Columbus. He raised his family in Wabush, Labrador. Jim will be greatly missed by many relatives and friends especially Eric and Moriah Young, Ray and Ruth Canning, and Fred Ingerman. He enjoyed a long career at Wabush Mines retiring in 1991 as General Foreman of the Mine Department. Jim held great respect for the men who worked in his department. He was a proud volunteer of the Wabush Fire Department serving as Fire Chief for many years. He had a passion for fishing with his many friends enjoying laughs and fish stories as they fished the lakes of Labrador. BATT (née Sansom), Phyllis Catherine - Passed on February 1st, 2012. Phyllis passed away peacefully at the Craigdarroch Care Home in Victoria, BC. Predeceased by her husband Cluny Philpott (Bill) Batt, her father Edwin John Sansom, her mother Agnes Hilda Harvey, and her sisters Agnes, Rosamond, Margaret, and Leah. Survived by her sons: Robert Gordon Batt (Marie Cahill) and Gerald William Batt, and her grandson Christopher William Batt. The funeral service was held at St. Luke's Anglican Church, Victoria, B.C., February 6. Born in St. John's, N.L., in 1918, Phyllis grew up in Winterton, T.B., and later lived at 135 LeMarchant Road in St. John's. After marrying Bill, they moved to Montreal, Que., where they brought up their sons and lived for many years. After the death of Bill, Phyllis moved to Victoria, BC, to be near her sons. BELL, Frederick G - Passed away peacefully at the Lacombe Hospital on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at the age of 89 years. Fred will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by his daughter Janet (Ron) Griffith of Red Deer, AB; son Ed (Joan) Bell of Red Deer, AB; one sister Dorothy of Corner Brook, NL; three nieces: Phyllis (Frank) Pearcey and family of Mount Pearl, NL; Shirley (Fred) Mullins and family of Kingston, ON; and Janis Walsh and family of St. John's, NL; two nephews: Edward (Valerie) Hodder and family of Shearstown, NL; and Don (Helen) Hodder and family of St. John's, NL; sister-in-law Iris Chafe of Mount Pearl, NL; as well as numerous extended family and friends. Fred is predeceased by his wife Doris, his son Graham, and his two brothers: Jack and Wilson. Fred Bell was a beloved member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church where he served as pastor to numerous congregations throughout Canada and the United States. He will be remembered as one of the founders of VOAR Christian Radio in St. John's, NL back in the mid 1940's. BROWN, Daniel Douglas - Passed away after a short courageous battle at the Halifax Infirmary CVICU on Thursday, February 2, 2012, Daniel Douglas Brown, at the age of 27 years. Predeceased by his dad, Reginald Brown, QC. BROWNE, Edward - Passed away peacefully at the Lions Manor on Feb. 18, 2012 Edward Browne of Mt. Arlington Hgts. age 95 years. BUCKLE, Francis - The Ven. Dr. Francis George Buckle, a proud Labradorian, passed peacefully away on Feb. 16th, 2012 at age 75. Predeceased by parents Mary Ann & John Francis, brother James Stewart, sisters Hattie and Susan. Leaving to mourn wife Gertrude (Liz) Webb, daughter Andrea, sons David and Paul (Paola), sisters Mary Flynn, Bertha (David) Rideout, sister-in-law Pearl Buckle and a large number of relatives and friends. Francis was born in Buckle's Point, Forteau, Labrador, taught school for three years before entering Queens's college to train for the sacred ministry and was ordained in 1962. He served as a Priest for over 40 years and was appointed Archdeacon of Labrador in 1983. In 2010, Francis received an Honorary degree, Doctorate of Sacred Letters (first to be so honoured) by his Alma Mater, Queen's College. This degree was in recognition of his work in documenting the Anglican Church history in Labrador and for his other literary work (four books and numerous articles). BUTLER, Dr. Ralph Williams - (December 5, 1928 - February 2, 2012) Passed peacefully away in the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. L. A. Miller Centre on February 2nd, 2012; age 83 years. Predeceased by his parents Ralph and Violet Butler and son David MacIntosh. Devoted and beloved husband and best friend of Lorna Beth Butler (nee Elger) of Lac Megantic, Quebec; loving father of Dr. Donald MacIntosh, daughter-in-law Dr. Rebecca MacIntosh and granddaughter Ellen; son Glenn Butler and daughter-in-law Lisa Duffy; daughter Nancy Butler, son-in-law Richard Palfreyman, and granddaughter Julia. At a young age Ralph began working as a mason at his father's contracting company, and assisting at the family's Higher Levels Skating Rink before moving on to obtain his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Bacteriology from McGill University in Montreal. His extensive career in public health culminated with his appointment as Director of Public Health Laboratories for Newfoundland and Labrador. Ralph was a true gentleman, an avid skater and a loyal friend. He gave willingly and readily of his many talents and possessed a sharp wit and ready smile that immediately put people at ease. Most people will remember him as being astonishingly active. There was always an upcoming project that Ralph was working on. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Thank you to Dr. Scott Moffat, Dr. Doug Drover, and Dr. Gavin Duffy for their care and concern for Ralph. CHAFE, Joanne - Passed peacefully away on Friday, February 17th, 2012 at the age of 60. Predeceased by her husband Jan Kolaczek in 1999, by her mother Philomena in 2001 and her father Gerald in 2004. Leaving to mourn is her sister Carolyn Green and her brother Frank Chafe (wife Linda). Cherished aunt of Randal Power, Joanna Green, Erika Chafe (fiancé Mitchell Stead) and Mark Chafe all of St. John's. Joanne is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. After working with the Roman Catholic School Board in St. John's, as a Religious Education Coordinator, Joanne worked for 37 years in the National Office of Religious Education of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. She served as President of the Religious Education Association of the United States and Canada. Following the passing of her mother, became organizer of the Philomena Chafe Memorial Pilgrimage to St. Anne de Beaupre, Que. (with visits to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Cape, Cap de la Madeline, Que. and St. Joseph's Oratory, Montreal) for the past eleven years. Joanne was very well respected and admired by her peers for her competency and professionalism. She will be sadly missed by many friends and co-workers. CORCORAN, Richard Patrick (Dick) - 1925-2012. Richard passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on February 22nd, 2012 after a long and wonderful life at the age of 86. He is predeceased by his son Patrick and his grandson Cory, his parents Jim and Mary Ellen, his beloved sister Rita Doody and brothers Jermiah and Steve. COUGHLAN, Robert J. - 92, of Riverview, NB; passed away at Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home in Moncton, on Saturday, February 18, 2012. Born in St. John's, NL on April 28, 1919; he was the son of the late William and Charlotte (Knight) Coughlan. From 1944 to 1958, Robert was the manager of the Old Colony Club in St. John's NL. He later retired as Sales Manager of the T. Eaton Co. with 25 years of service. He was a member of the Quarter of Century Club and he was a member of the Westmorland Albert Senior Citizen's Bowling League. Robert was a veteran of WW II, having serviced with the R.C.A.F. He will be sadly missed by his daughter Judith Coughlan - Lambly and her husband Peter of Halifax; his son John (Pam) Coughlan of Riverview; two loving granddaughters: Sarah Coughlan and her husband Christian Allain and Rebecca Coughlan-Gillespie (Liam); great-grandson Sawyer Gillespie; sister Helen French of St. John's, NL; two brothers: Leonard (Betty) Coughlan of St. John's NL and William Coughlan of Vancouver, BC; as well as nieces, nephews and his dear companion Effie McKinney. EATON, David M.- (Retired General Secretary for the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation and Secretary General for the Canadian Teachers' Federation). David Murray Eaton, who died peacefully at his Oakville home on Wednesday, Feb. 15th, 2012 at the age of 75, was widely known and respected across Canada and North America as the General Secretary for the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (1987-1995) and later Secretary General for the Canadian Teachers' Federation (1999-2000). His passing, while in the care of his loving wife of 51 years, came less than two months after he was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer.
Son of the late William and Daisy Eaton (Bell); brother to the late Campbell, Bill and Doug Eaton. A caring father, leaves behind his wife, Audrey, two sons, Kenneth (BJ Andrews) and Murray (Janice), a daughter, Susan Bruce (Robert), siblings Helen Smith, Alistair Eaton and Daisy Delong and 13 grandchildren: Alicia, Mackenzie, Brittany, Kendra (Eaton), Jessica, Sean, Mark, Sarah, Rachael (Bruce), Tyron, Kiefer, Keegan, Liam (Eaton) and several great-grand children, Eric, Avery and Cadence. Just two months before his own death, the Eaton's lost their granddaughter Jessica, a great tragedy for them. He will be sadly missed by many good friends, family and his most loyal friend Labradoodle, Ben. David Eaton will be remembered by all as a proud Newfoundlander whose laid-back manner masked a razor sharp mind, unerring political instincts and his own unique brand of people skills. Throughout his entire career, his name was synonymous with integrity and personal honesty.
David graduated from the University of Windsor and earned his Master's degree at the University of Toronto. His first job, with Shell Canada in Toronto, led him to meet his future wife, Audrey Scanlan. In 1961, he began teaching for the North York Board of Education. In 1968, he joined the provincial office of OSSTF and was promoted to General Secretary in June, 1987. After retiring in 1995 he served as Secretary General for CTF in 1999-2000.

KELLY, Rev. Father William Joseph - Passed peacefully away at St. Patrick's Mercy Home, St. John's on Sunday, February 26, 2012, Father Joe Kelly in his 87th year. Predeceased by his parents William Kelly and Alice Mae (Howard) Kelly and his sisters Dorothy Lake, Elizabeth Kelly, Esther Stack, Margaret Kelly and niece Betty Jo Stack. Father Kelly is survived by his sister Mary St. Cyr and nieces and nephews Bernardine Russell, Paula Smyth, Clare Craig, Mary Vanzanten, Joe Lake, Geraldine Foley, Margaret Stack Nissan, Robert St. Cyr and their families. Father Kelly grew up in Daniel's Cove, Trinity Bay and attended St. Augustine's Seminary in Scarborough, Ont. He was ordained on June 5, 1954 and served in the Diocese of St. George's and the Dioceses of Corner Brook and Labrador. Upon retirement Father Kelly spent his summers at his ancestral home in Daniel's Cove, Trinity Bay among family and friends, particularly Edmund and Mary Kelly and Lillian Spurrel. His winters were spent on the West Coast with his fellow Priests, parishioners and friends of whom he spoke with deep admiration and affection. LEDWELL, Robert - Robert passed peacefully away at his home in Calvert on February 8, 2012, aged 91 years, in the presence of his devoted daughter Donna and son Danny. MARTIN, John - Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre on February 6th, 2012 following a lengthy illness, John Patrick Martin, age 57 years. Predeceased by his parents Edward (Ned) and Sheila Martin in 1997. PARRY, John - It is with the utmost grief and sadness that we announce the passing of John Parry. John passed away peacefully on February 7, 2012 at the Loch Lomond Villa, surrounded by his family. Born in Liverpool, England on September 16, 1940, he was the son of the late Robert and Eileen (Porteous) Parry. John will be remembered by his loving wife of 50 years, Vivienne; their three sons Damien, Trevor (Ileana), Graeme; daughter Nicola (Gavin) Parry; sisters Molly Pagan and Eileen Hill of England. John will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Jillian; brothers Leo and Robert; and sister Agnes. John was raised in England, and at age 19 was recruited by the Canadian Government as a radio operator, working on the icebreakers in Hudson's Bay. He went on to a successful career with the Ministry of Transport, retiring as Atlantic Regional Superintendent of Electronics Maintenance. John had an integral role in the commissioning of the first computerized regional air traffic control centre in Canada. He took great pleasure in playing golf, bridge, gardening, as well as watching cricket and Liverpool F.C. his favourite soccer team. John had a very kind, caring, and gentle nature; he was dedicated to his family, and proud of their achievements. John's beautiful smile will be greatly missed. SEYMOUR, Geoffrey Nelson - Passed away early in the morning, Sunday, February 19th, 2012, surrounded by his family. Geoff was well known throughout the arts community for his onstage work in such productions as My Fair Lady (where he met his future wife Phyllis), Brigadoon, South Pacific and many others, but he was better known as a broadcaster with the CBC. For many years he was the voice of the news and a host of many different shows, both on radio and television. A memorial service is being planned for July in Newfoundland. SNOW, Harold Rex Wilson - Of Three Island Pond, Topsail passed peacefully away on February 10, 2012, in his 61st year. Harold Snow was Hal to his family and Hank to his friends and co-workers. He gave service as a Correctional Officer to Her Majesty's Penitentiary for 28 years of his life. Hal was predeceased by his mother Margaret Ellen (Marnie) and father Douglas. STRATTON, John Garland "Jack" - 15 November 1923 - 19 February 2012. Flight Lieutenant (Retired) John Garland "Jack" Stratton, RAF, AFM. Son of the late Stephen Bourne Stratton and Annie Pearl (Arnold) Stratton, was born in Safe Harbour, Bonavista Bay, on November 15, 1923. He died in St. John's on February 19, 2012. Jack attended Memorial University College until enrolling for air crew training in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. During his time in the RAF, he was awarded the Air Force Medal. He remained with the RAF until 1968, when he and his wife Sophie (Osmond) and their four children returned to Newfoundland. They settled in Corner Brook where Jack had a long career in municipal affairs with the City and later the Province of Newfoundland. Jack and Sophie were active leaders in the Royal Canadian Legion at the local, provincial, and national levels, and the cause of veterans was an important one throughout Jack's life. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Sophie, and his siblings Josephine, Sadie (Pinsent) and George. He is survived by his wife Alma (Blackwood); children Brian (Wanda Manuel), Elizabeth (Doug Wright), John (Christine Latter) and Sara (Kelly Buehler); grandchildren Megan, Ian, Emma, Willie, Grace, Lily, Jeffrey and Thomas; siblings Elizabeth (Frank Janes), Dawson (Sophie Halfyard), Mamie (Wilfred Howell), Joan Pinsent, and Patt (Glenn Wiggins); sister-in-law Neta Colbourne; and many nieces and nephews. Born in St. John's, Newfoundland on November 8, 1941. Predeceased by his parents, William and Mildred Wallace; sister-in-law, Margaret; nephews: Wally and Josh Wallace. WARREN, James Vincent - Passed away peacefully on February 16th, 2012 at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario, James Vincent Warren of Bell Island, NL., in his 76th year. Beloved son of the late Leander and Margaret Warren (nee Dwyer). Predeceased by his brothers John, Peter, Daniel (Louise) (nee Greene), and sister Gwendolyn (Walter Lahey). Leaving to mourn brothers: Clayton (Marilyn) (nee Eigenhuis) of Barrie, Ontario, Lawrence (Regina) (nee Cahill) of Corner Brook, NL.; and sister-in-law Catherine Warren (nee Parsons) of Bell Island, NL. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. James served in the Royal Canadian Regiment and was a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Cremation has taken place. Passed peacefully away at the Captain William Jackman Memorial Hospital, Labrador City, NL, in the presence of her loving family, Audrey Phyllis White. Predeceased by her husband Douglas, parents Isaac & Susie Vincent, and step-mother Eliza Vincent. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories: her daughter Janice (Ewart) with whom she resided; sons: Max (Lillian), Tony (Dorothy), Ross (Maxine); sister Rose (Harry); brothers: Boyd (Maxine) and John. WILKINS (nee Mouland), Nettie (Juanita Marguerite) - Passed peacefully away on February 3rd, 2012 surrounded by her loving family Nettie Wilkins aged 89 years. Predeceased by her husband Clarence and daughter Shirley Garland, brothers: Reginald (Morag, both of Scotland), Douglas (California) and Horace (Mary, both of St. John's), sisters: Mollie Groven (Ernie, both of Seattle) and Emmie Abbott (Fred, both of Musgrave Harbour) as well as brother-in-law Leonard and Blanche Wilkins and lifelong friends Ned and Sarah Royal.
