ANDREWS, Cynthia (nee Wiseman) - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare`s Mercy Hospital on January 14th, 2002, Cynthia Andrews (nee Wiseman). Aged 69 years. Leaving to mourn two sons: James (Tyler) and Gus (wife Glenda); two daughters: Debbie (husband Richard) and Connie (husband Gerard); three grandchildren: Natasha, Dereck and Cheri; two great-grandchildren: Dylan and Brianna; three brothers: Burry (Norma), Bill (Brenda) and Steve; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett`s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Funeral Service 11 a.m. on Friday, January 18th, 2002 from Barrett`s Chapel with inurnment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. BEST, Frank - Passed peacefully away at the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Monday, January 14, 2002, Frank Best of Arnold`s Cove, aged 83 years. Predeceased by three sisters. Left with fond and loving memories his wife Lily of 15 years; step-daughters: Rowena (Roy Wareham), Arnold`s Cove, Muriel (Baxter Wareham), Arnold`s Cove, Sheila Boutcher (Hiram Boland), Gander and Iris (Jim Stanich), Alberta; sisters: Mildred Lockyer, Maud (Gill Rowe), Jessie Humber, all of Corner Brook; brother Clev of Corner Brook; six step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild and a large number of relatives and friends. BILLARD, John Chesley - Age 93, of Halifax. Passed away January 22, 2002 at Q.E.II Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in Grand Bruit, Nfld. He was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Matthews) Billard. One of seven children, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family. John graduated from high school at Grand Bruit and worked for a number of years with one of the local businesses. He then pursued his post-secondary education at Memorial University and later graduated from Acadia. He taught and served in administrative positions in schools in Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, retiring as principal of Major Stephen Jr. High in 1973. Prior to his retirement, he was awarded the Centennial Medal in recognition to his contribution to education. John was a faithful member of Edgewood United Church, having served as an elder of the congregation and a member of the Mens Fellowship. In 1997 he received an award of excellence for several decades of faithful service as Envelope Secretary. He was a dedicated member of the Masonic Fraternity. In December 1995, Atlantic Lodge No. 103 recognized his dedication and hard work, his conscientious and loyal service by awarding him the Meritorious Service Medal. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 53 years, Ina (Norman); his brother-in-law, William Norman, St. John`s, Newfoundland; and a number of nieces and nephews, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. At his request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Atlantic Funeral Home,, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax at which time the Masonic Lodge will hold a service at 7 p.m. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Edgewood United Church, Halifax, Rev. Diane MacVicar officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial will follow in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Edgewood United Church Memorial Fund.

BISHOP, Victor Allan - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John`s on Wednesday, January 30th, 2002, surrounded by his family, Victor Allan Bishop of Hearts Delight. Age 68 years. Predeceased by his parents Robert and Edna Bishop; brother William and brothers-in-law: Russell Merchant and Edward Muise. Left with fond and loving memories, three sisters: Elizabeth Muise and Stella Merchant of Hantsport, NS, Audrey Jackson (Wallace), Hearts Delight; two brothers: Samuel (Edith) and Sterling (Gail), both of Hearts Delight; five nephews: Rob (Melissa), Justin (Corry), Peter, Micah and Daniel; two nieces: Annette Bishop and Charlene Jackson; as well as two very special great-nieces: Josie and Alexis, Kitchener, ON; also a large circle of other family and friends. Resting at the S.U.F. Lodge, Hearts Delight. Funeral Service to take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. from St. Matthews Anglican Church, Hearts Delight. Interment to follow at St. Matthews Cemetery. BLAIR, Olive Verne - Died January 30, 2002, in Halifax. Born in New Glasgow, July 22, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Frederick L. and Olive D. (Fraser) Blair. She leaves to mourn sister, E. Margaret "Peg" Brookbank (Roy), Halifax; brothers: Norval R., St. John`s, Nfld., Dale (Shirley), Halifax; eight nieces and a nephew. Despite a long illness and being unable to talk or walk for years, Olive maintained contact with dozens of friends and relatives through her correspondence. She was educated at schools in St. John`s, Nfld. and at Memorial University and earned a diploma in Handicrafts from MacDonald College (McGill). Following graduation she worked with the Handicrafts Division at the George V Institute, the CNIB and the Waterford Hospital in St. John`s. During the Korean War she served with the Canadian Red Cross in Japan and Korea, returning to Canada to work at Sunnybook Hospital in Toronto. She subsequently worked at the Red Cross Lodge at Camp Hill Hospital, and then joined her family business, Lewisporte Wholesalers Ltd., in Lewisporte, Nfld. until her health necessitated early retirement. A grave side service will be held at a later date when her ashes will be interred in Fairview Cemetery, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation or Nursing Research Foundation.

BOYCE, Anne Bartlett (nee Bungay) - Passed peacefully away at the Agnes Pratt Home on Tuesday, January 29, 2002, Anne Boyce aged 93 years. Predeceased by her husband Norman in 1980. CULLEN, Thomas - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, January 16, 2002, Thomas Cullen of Conception Harbour, aged 84 years. Predeceased by his wife Nellie, 1990 and his son Edmund, 1982. deVOOGHT, Patricia (Mary) (nee Patsy McGrath) - on January 21, 2002 in West Vancouver, B.C. She was taken in her sleep, at home, after a long and courageous struggle with emphysema. Patricia is survived by her five loving children: Jacqueline, Marc, Philip, Margot and Jonathan, along with five grandchildren and her two sisters Margot and Barbara. Pat was an extremely active and well respected member of the St. Anthony`s Parish and St. Anthony School community in the 1960`s and early 70`s and left a lasting impression with all those she encountered. Most recently Pat was an integral member of the Strata Council overseeing the complex in which she resided and her term as Social Conveener shall not be forgotten. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 29th at Christ the Redeemer Church at 11:00 a.m., 599 Keith Rd., West Vancouver, reception to follow. Donations to the Canadian Lung Association would be greatly appreciated or if you wish, flowers sent to Hollyburn Funeral Home, 1807 Marine Drive, West Vancouver (604)922-1221. Interment private.

DIAMOND, Myrtle (nee Bown) - Passed peacefully away at Change Islands on January 25, 2002, Myrtle Diamond, age 62 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by her father, Frederick Bown on November 6, 1999. Leaving to mourn her husband Harvey of 37 years; her only son Craig (Change Islands); mother Dorothy (Change Islands); brothers: Winston (Netta), Change Islands, Ralph (Georgina), Mount Pearl; brothers-in-law: Ray (Betty) & Ben, Change Islands; nephews Berkley (Colleen), Andrew & Darren; nieces Michelle (Wayne), Cathy & Maggie (great niece), a large circle of extended family and friends. WALSH, Grace Cavell (nee Dewling) - WWII, R.C.A.F., June 9th, 1918- January 31st, 2002. Passed peacefully away surrounded by family, our mother and friend, Grace Walsh, aged 83 years. Predeceased by her husband Arch in 1990. Leaving to mourn with loving memories, daughters: Shirley Heffernan (Mike), Cathy Norman (Harold); sons: Jim (Martha), John (Jean Paul), Rick; beloved grandchildren: Shelley, Harold Jr., Michael, Amanda, Erin, and beloved grandchildren Tenae, Samantha, Haley and their mother Cindy; precious great-grandchildren: Jordan, Hayley and Ryan; sisters Frances (Don) MacKenzie, B.C.; Cora Oswald, Michigan and Ethel Culmore, Ontario; and a large circle of relatives and friends and special friends Agnes O`Keefe, Dot Jardine, Agatha Tobin, Marg McKinn, Iris and Len Walsh and families. Predeceased by his parents Bernard and Caroline Walsh, and brother Eugene. Left to mourn, with fond and loving memories wife Jean; two sons: Scott and Kenneth; brothers: John (Rita), Bernard (Jean); sisters: Mary Cleary (Edward), Madonna Northcott (Douglas) and Doris Andrews (Paul); step-daughters: Kim Hennessey (Jim) and Erica; also special nephew Gerard Walsh (Elizabeth); and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, and his very special friends at the IBEW Electrical Union. Funeral service will take place at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on Thursday, January 31st, 2002 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. WARREN, Selby Edward - Tragically killed in Calgary on January 19, 2002, aged 29. Lovingly remembered by wife Karen and children Jason (8) and Stephanie (7); by father Harry (Roma); sisters: Tammy, Michelle; brother Harry; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Interment occurred in Calgary on January 24. A Memorial Service in his memory will be held on Thursday, January 31, at 6:30 at Church of the Ascension, Smallwood Drive, Mount Pearl.
