BRAZIL, Paul "Duane", Greenwood, NS -
It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden death of the most wonderful,
loving husband and truly amazing Dad that God ever gave to this world. Duane
died tragically on July 13, 2006 in a Cormorant helicopter accident in Canso,
NS, age 39 years. He was born in Gander and raised in Botwood, NL.
After high
school he moved to St. John's and in 1990 he joined the Canadian Forces. Upon
graduation from his training he was awarded the Commandant's Shield for top
recruit. Duane spent 9 years as an Instrument Electrician technician in Greenwood
working on the Aurora aircraft until 1999 when he transferred to Search and
Rescue as a Flight Engineer. In 2000 Duane and his family were transferred
to Gander NL. That same year Duane lost his older brother Gary in a Coast Guard
Helicopter accident. Duane's love of SAR and devotion to helping others took
him through that and he always said "if I can bring one more
person home, then that mother won't have to go through what my mom did." During his
4 years at 103 SQN in Gander, Duane helped save many souls. He truly loved
what he did and believed in the SAR motto "So that others may
live." In
2004 Duane and his family were transferred back to Greenwood where he continued
his SAR career at 413 SQN.
Duane was a devoted loving husband and proud father.
His family and their happiness was always first and foremost. Duane loved life
and lived everyday to the fullest, always with a smile. Duane was predeceased
by his infant daughter Cory Allison in 1994 and his brother Gary Jerome in
2000. He will be sadly missed, forever loved and never forgotten by his girls,
devoted and loving wife Candy (my buddy), two beautiful very special daughters
Erin 15 years and Sara 11 years (his pals). Duane also leaves his loving parents
Gerald and Yvonne Brazil of Torbay NL; mother and father in-law Bonnie and
Al Smith of St. John's NL; sister Debbie (Dennis Insley, nephew Kristopher);
brother Rodney (friends Lori Beck and boys); sister-in-law Denise Brazil (nephew

LIDSTER, Veronica - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of
our dear daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Veronica (Sis) Lidster. Veronica
passed away peacefully in her sleep after a few hours at Agape Hospice, Calgary,
Alberts on July 6, 2006, at the age of 55 after a two year battle with cancer.
Veronica was born on March 23, 1951 in Cupid's Crossing, Conception Bay, Nfld.
She received her B.A. and B. ED from Memorial University in Nfld. and continued
studies at Boston College, Mass. Veronica received a Masters degree in curriculum
development from the University of Portland, Oregon.
Veronica taught in many schools in Nfld. before moving to Calgary in 1983.
Here she taught briefly in the Calgary Catholic School Board before joining
the Bow Valley College teaching staff as an English as a second language teacher.
Veronica was a kind, compassionate and extremely skilled teacher - loved by
both staff and students alike. While she was a patient at the Foothills Hospital,
one of her ex-students was her nursing assistant and spoke lovingly of her
as "a fantastic teacher."
Veronica was actively involved in Holy Spirit Parish as a choir leader since
she moved to Calgary. She had a passion for Liturgical Music and had the voice
of an angel. Veronica spent many hours of preparing appropriate music for the
liturgies, making sure it suited the theme of the celebration. She enjoyed
singing other music as well and used her wonderful gift of song to bring joy
to others. She was the joy of any gathering and had a tremendous sense of humor.
Veronica is survived by her loving parents, Frank and Madeline Lidster, her
sisters, Carol Ann (Mike) Sampson, Denise (Ross) Butler, her brothers, Kevin
(Susan) and Gerard (Jean). She leaves to mourn also her nephews, Nicholas Lidster,
Jesse Lidster, twins, Zachary and Carl Harvey, Michael Sampson and Andrew Butler.
Veronica also leaves to mourn her 'second family' in Calgary, Juanita Broderick,
Gerry, Louise and Peter MacIntyre who loved her dearly. Veronica also had a
very close circle of friends - too numerous to mention. They knew of her love
for them and she knew of their love for her.
Veronica was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Nicholas and Nora Connolly,
her paternal grandparents, John and Josephine Lidster, her two brothers, Gary
and Terry, and her brother-in-law Cpl. Carl Harvey, Sr., and her faithful companion,
her black Lab, Shaboo who died in June, 2005.
Visitation will take place at Broughton's Funeral Home, Brigus, Tuesday, July
11, 2006 from 2 pm - 9 pm and Wednesday, July 12, 2006 from 10 am - 9 pm with
Mass of Christian Burial taking place from St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church,
Brigus, on Thursday, July 13, 2006 at 10:30 am with Fr. Clem Flaherty officiating.
Interment to follow in RC Cemetery, Brigus.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, a donation may be made to the local
SPCA, in recognition of Veronica's special love of animals.
A light from the family is gone
A voice we loved is still
A place is vacant in the home
Which never can be filled.
We have to mourn the loss of one
We would've loved to keep
But God who surely loved her best
Has finally made her sleep.

Fred will be fondly remembered by a wide circle of

This passion for mechanical transport would last a lifetime, seeing him acquiring,
fixing, and riding numerous cars and motorcycles, as well as obtaining his
pilot's license in 1961. In 1957, he received his BA from Mt. Allison University
in Sackville, New Brunswick, putting himself through school as a radio and

he was made a judge in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland (Trial Division) in
1985. He retired from the bench in 1999.
In addition to planes, cars and motorcycles,
his passions were varied. He skied Marble Mountain, told funny stories, enjoyed
sailing on his friend Ed's boat, made great soup stocks and could harmonize
to any tune. He took special pleasure in seeing his daughter Alison perform
on stage, and in his grandchildren Aaron and Theo. The family would like to
thank dear friends Cyril and Frances, and the staff of the fifth floor at the
Western Memorial Regional Hospital for their kindness and dedication. At his
request, there will be no service. If desired, memorial donations can be made
