ARNS (Hunt), Doris M. - Passed peacefully away at the St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on June 22, 2012, at the age of 86, surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by husband, Fred Arns, brother Ned Hunt, sisters Flora Hunt and Vivian Mitchell (Chesley). Left with fond and loving memories are her children: Bonita Arns, and Ron Arns (Marg); precious granddaughter, Amanda Arns (Shane Collins); baby brother, Steve Hunt (Hughena); sister-in-law, Rachel Hunt; caregivers and special friends: Terri & Marj as well as an incredibly large circle of other relatives and friends. AYLES, Lloyd John - Of St. John's NL, on 15 June, 2012, at the age of 60, passed peacefully away in Toronto at the Toronto Grace Hospital after a brief illness with cancer on June 15, 2012. Predeceased by his parents Stephen and Stella (nee Sheppard) Ayles. BAGGS, Franklin - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 15, 2012 Franklin Baggs of Bay Roberts, aged 67 years. BARRON (nee Murray), Eileen (Maudie) - A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, she passed peacefully away in her 74th year on Thursday, June 28, 2012. BARTLETT (Parsons), Lena Niola - It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we, the family, announce the passing of Lena Bartlett, on June 17th, 2012, in her 95th year at Carbonear General Hospital. Predeceased by her husband Jack, son Kevin, two sisters and five brothers. Leaving to mourn her loving children, three daughters: Tish (Alonzo Beeso deceased), Judy (John Hammond), Joan (Gervase Hurley); one son Riv (Malvina deceased); fourteen grandchildren: Brian, Shawn, Gary, Tina, Riv, Tanya, Kyle, Kendra, Kurt, Cory, Kelly, Lewis, Michael and special granddaughter Jennifer, seventeen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Also extended family Bernard Brazil, Isabel Shulko, Leah Rowe and Bernetta Thistle and a large circle of family and friends. BENNETT (nee Ryan), Phyllis Emma - Passed peacefully away June 15th, 2012, Phyllis Bennett, after a courageous battle with her illness. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Walter James Bennett, Sergeant USAF; daughter Sandra Cowley; parents Albert and Violet Ryan; parents-in-law Stewart and Lillian Bennett; brothers: William, Albert and Harold; sisters: Mary and Doris; brothers-in-law: Marcus Ash, Douglas Bennett, Edwin Bennett and sister-in-law Sheila Bennett. Leaving to mourn with loving memories son Doug Bennett (Daphne); son-in-law Pat Cowley (Colette); grandchildren: Robert (Harmonie), Adam (Josee), Ryan, Matthew (Andrea) and Laura. Also four great-grandchildren: Ethan, Ashton, Nolan and Jade; three sisters-in-law: Helen Ryan, Mary Ryan and Phyllis Rennicks; along with numerous nieces and nephews and close friends and relatives. Phyllis was a lifetime active member of St. Thomas' Church and their choir and also with the Masonic Park Ladies Auxiliary. She spent many years travelling with her husband and had a special place in her heart for Ottawa and Toronto where her children and grandchildren lived. BONIA, David Edmond - September 19, 1954 - June 20, 2012. Passed peacefully away, on June 20, 2012; David Edmond (Dave) Bonia; at the home of his beloved girlfriend and nurse, Nadine Barry of Grand Falls Windsor. He was 57 years of age. Dave was, in the words of one of his many friends, "a professional woodsman". He worked in various parts of this great country, from mining in Labrador City and Thompson, Manitoba to building boats in British Columbia. He also did mechanical, millwright and woodworking in Toronto. He "never liked it on the mainland" and was happiest back in Newfoundland, doing renovation and repair work as well as snow clearing and yard work for seniors. On a day like today, he would be saying "It¹s a great day to go fishing".
Dave was predeceased by his mom, Marie (1970) and his older brother John (1994) as well as his grandparents and many extended family members. Left with fond memories are his dad, Jim and his stepmother, Monica of Grand Falls Windsor as well as his daughter, Melanie of Montreal, Quebec. Giving thanks for a lifetime of fun and laughter are his sister, Elizabeth (Libby) Cole of Falmouth, Nova Scotia and his brother Jim (girlfriend Karen Naugler) of Hantsport, Nova Scotia. He is the grandfather of Gabriel and Caleb; and the Uncle of Andrew Bonia; Marlene Skyes and James, Emily and April Bonia; as well as Joanna and Christian Cole. He will be remembered lovingly by his special Aunt Patsy Froude; best buddy Glen Wicks and a large circle of relatives and friends. At Dave's request, cremation has taken place and the interment will be at a later date with a private ceremony next to his mom in St Mary¹s, St Mary's Bay, NL. There will be a celebration of his life at Kelly's Pub at a later date.

BOONE, Wallace Whitfield - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Complex on Thursday, June 21, 2012, Wallace Boone aged 69 years. Predeceased by his parents James and Selina Boone; his first wife Patricia (nee Thomas); parents-in-law: George and Mabel Thomas; brothers: Melvin, Hedley (Ruby), and Wilfred; sisters: Rohetta and Greta; and brothers-in-law Arthur Feltham, Raymond "Bud" Thomas, and Jay Butler. Leaving to mourn one daughter Debbie Picco (Patrick Maloney); three sons: Colin (Veronica), Keith (Yvonne) and Don (Angela); twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law; special friends Rosarri Butler and Donna Nolan; many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Cremation has taken place. CASHIN (Dempsey), Theresa Marie - July 4, 1933 - June 21, 2012. Passed peacefully away on June 21 2012, at James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander, Theresa Marie Cashin (Dempsey), at age 78. Leaving to mourn, with fond and loving memories are children; Trudy (Bill) Broderick, Jim (Kathy), Bill, Philomena (Dwight) Lane, Jerry (Denise), Susan (Kevin) Goulding; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. HEENEY (McTavish), Mary Eleanor - Following a brief illness, Mary died at home on the morning of Sunday, June 3rd, 2012, at the age of 91. She died as she lived, with grace, humour and a minimum of fuss. Mary is survived by Rex, her husband of 64 years, her children and their spouses, Paul Heeney and Joanne Moser, Adam and Maureen Heeney, Martha and Glenn Robinson, and Kate and Collin Clinton, as well as her four grandchildren, Julia, Hannah, Mary and Hamish. Also missing Mary are her two sisters, Jean Catton and Ruth Wilson, in-laws Alice and Iain Scott and many other family members and friends from St. John's to Victoria and in the United States. Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Peter and Bruce McTavish. Mary spent many rewarding hours pursuing her commitment to volunteer work, and her love of literature, music and golf. Her real gift was her ability to connect with people, creating genuine, lasting friendships. A devoted wife and mother, she supported her husband's military career of 27 years, which often required being both mother and father for extended periods of time. Betty and Roger were members of Floral Heights Assembly of God in Wichita Falls and Harvest Time Assembly of God in Sherman. A devout Christian, her priorities in life were her church, her family and spending time with her grandchildren. Betty loved music and was often heard singing or humming hymns and choruses as she went about her daily activities. Betty is now reunited in heaven with her mother and father, sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Reginald Snow; and her brother Lawrence Nicholl. LAWTON, David Yuill - Passed peacefully away at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre, at the age of 76 years young, on June 3rd, 2012. David was born on November 18th, 1935, in Belloram, Newfoundland to Rev. Sidney and Helen Lawton. He spent his childhood in New Brunswick and attended Rothesay Boarding School. He started his career with the American Air Force in Goose Bay and moved to Gander working with CBC for 28 years as a radio broadcaster before retiring. David was very active in the community giving to others as a member of the Masonic, the Shriners Club and was a life member of the Lions Club. He also served on the executive of the Thomas Howe Demonstration Forest and hosted many Kiwanis Stars of the Festival shows. He was predeceased by sister Laura and grandson Bradley. Left with loving memories is his wife Phyllis, and his five sons: Donald (Dorothy), Steven (Andrea Maclellan), Darryl (Rose), Benj (Madonna), Jeff (Hope); and his sister Pauline. He also leaves six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His commitment to family, friendship and community gave him many dear friends who will miss his companionship and joy of life, and he will certainly be missed by his daily coffee mates at Giovanni's. People of Gander will remember Dad as a plumber, supervisor of maintenance at ATC building and one who was a jack of all trades and an exceptionally hard worker. Fellow parishioners will remember Dad's tirelessness in early mornings as he was constantly attending to the church's furnace needs before Sunday Mass and often throughout the week. Knights of Columbus will remember his selling tickets and other volunteer work. Legion members will remember his beautiful voice and the great dancer that he was. Many others will remember his dry sense of humor and his constant teasing, especially our Mom, his joy of gardening and caring for his tulips, roses and all his plants. His devotion to the Miraculous Medal was an inspiration to all his family. Others will remember him from the pubs- which he enjoyed at times. Gary retired after many years from Crown Metal Packing, Concord, Ont. He loved to travel and also spent many hours on his sailboat with friends exploring Georgian Bay. Gary was an avid fisherman and sport enthusiast enjoying golfing, and hockey. MURRAY, Michael - (1933-2012)-Passed peacefully away at Chancellor Park on 17 June 2012, St. John's, formerly of Gander and Fox Harbour. He also played a key role in establishing and growing the Canadian Diabetes Association throughout the province, serving as President of the Newfoundland Division and representing the province at the national board level. He was widely known for his good humor and quiet charm and his smile and gentle ways made him friends wherever he went. PIKE, Violet (Vi) - November 5, 1914 - June 28, 2012. Passed away at Tobin's Guest Home in Holyrood. She was born in Carbonear and later moved to Grand Falls-Windsor for all of her adult life and in 2000 to Holyrood. She was predeceased by her parents John and Caroline Fraize of Carbonear, husband John Pike 2001; brother Hayward (Alma) and sisters: Elizabeth (Eldred) Hedges, Florence (Llewellyn) Batten, Lillian (Llewellyn) Lawrence, Carrie (Roy) Moores, all of Carbonear. She is survived by son Vincent and daughter-in-law Florence Pike of St. John's and a special granddaughter Pamela Pike (Stephen Binz) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; as well as a large number of nieces and nephews. Vi and John were avid curlers and golfers. Vi represented Newfoundland and Labrador at the Ladies Diamond D National Championships (the forerunner to the Scott Tournament of Hearts), the Senior Ladies National Championships and along with her husband John, in the Mixed Doubles National Championships for a total of 19 times. Also she represented the Newfoundland and Labrador Ladies Amateur Golf Team and Senior Golf Team at the National Championships on 10 occasions. Vi is a member of the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame. Also she is a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame, the Newfoundland and Labrador Curling Hall of Fame, the Newfoundland and Labrador Golf Hall of Fame; as well as a Life member of the Grand Falls Golf Club. She was active in the School Girls Curling Program. Vi and John were the first and only (to date) husband and wife members of the Newfoundland Sports Hall of Fame. Vi was one of 20 featured women to be recognized by the Department of Education in a Poster Series of Influential Women of Newfoundland and Labrador for the Junior High School program. Cliff was a friend to everyone who met him and brightened our lives with his warm smile, cheerful laugh and his love for singing. Cliff loved and was loved by all who knew him. Predeceased by husband Philip and infant son. ZIMMERMANN, Ulrich Max - Passed peacefully away on Thursday, June 14, 2012, Ulrich Max Zimmermann, aged 91. Predeceased by his wife Margaret, mother and father Elizabeth and Max Zimmermann. Leaving to mourn: daughter Carol (Wayne); sons: Edward (Mary) and Ulrich (Linda); precious grandchildren: Robin (Jamie), Nadine (Calvin), Edward Jr. (Courtney), Sonya (Larry), Andria (Justin), Tyler (Crystal), MacKenzie and Marshall; cherished great-grandchildren: Vanessa, Lacey, Crystal, Devon, and William; cousins: Hans Zimmermann and Dorothea Walda; and special sister-in-law, Yvonne, and long time friend Erwin. Also survived by a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Remains are resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road.
