And molder in dust away."

"To have loved and then said farewell is better than to have never loved at all. I ask that you not grieve my loss, but rejoice in the fact that we lived, loved and touched each other's lives. My life was fuller because you were there.
Today I am as I was in my youth. The grass is always green, butterflies flit among the flowers and the suns shines gently down upon all of God's creatures. I can run, jump, play and do all of the things that I did in my youth. There is no sickness, no aching joints, no regrets and no aging.
"Don't hold the love that you have within yourself; give it to another and then I will live forever. For love never really dies and you are all loved and missed."

O'NEILL, Donald Anthony Michael - Age 80, passed away suddenly at his home in St. John's on June 18, 2013. As a retired Lieutenant of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, Don was known to many for his remarkable sense of duty and community service. Fortunate residents of Symonds Place in St. John's would often wake up to find him clearing their driveways in a mid-winter blizzard. And at his parish, he was usually the first to arrive at Mass and for decades took up collection even though hip and spine problems made walking difficult. He will be missed by many. Husband of Jennie (nee Chafe), loving father to Jennifer and Joanne, father-in-law to Jamie and Adam, grandfather to Julia and one grandchild yet to be born, brother of Dolph, Olaf, Doug, Lorraine and Phyllis. He lived in St. John's for years, but his heart was always with the family farm on Bell Island where he was born. His only regret in life was not seeing his beloved Leafs win the Cup again. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. All are welcome to drop by and share their own memories, photos and stories of Donald with our family. VIVIAN, Eugene Oldford - It is with heartfelt appreciation for all he did for his family and others, that his children announce the passing of Eugene ("Bibs") Oldford Vivian. Bibs passed away peacefully, one week after a sudden diagnosis of terminal cancer, at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John's. He passed on June 19, 2013 at the age of 88 years, in the company of his children. Eugene was the son of Owen Vivian and Lily Snowden of Squid Tickle, now called Burnside, Newfoundland. He is the grandson of Captain John W. Oldford, ship builder and skipper, of Burnside. Deeply admired by Eugene, Captain Oldford raised Eugene after Eugene lost his mother at age 7, his father at age 10, and his siblings prior to the same. Captain Oldford did so after he retired from skippering various fishing crews over the years in Bonavista Bay, and moved to Corner Brook to become a millwright in the newly constructed Pulp & Paper Mill. It was in Corner Brook that Bibs met his future wife, Barbara Ellen Lee, daughter of Sheriff Peter Lee, and enjoyed 60 years of marriage with her before she passed away in August, 2010. He is also predeceased by his adoring son, Brian Lee; and leave to mourn, yet at the same time, celebrate his life, his children: John (Lisa Inder), Robert (Margie Noftall), Janet, Mark, Paul (Mark Pundzius) and Neil (Margret Huebsch); and his grandchildren: Eugene, Ella, Trista, Kelsey, Matthew, Fred, Paul, Jonathan, Theo, Hans, Liesel.
Bibs will be remembered for his many accomplishments in life, his incredible sense of adventure, and will be missed by all, including his outgoing and wonderfully close family friends in Corner Brook. After graduation from high school, he briefly became a stevedore and a pulp tester in Bowater's Lab, before at the age of 17, he pursued his first of many passions, flying. He convinced the RCAF he was 18 and signed up for WWII to become a pilot. While studying the necessary mathematics in Guelph, Ontario, and awaiting an opening in aviation school, he took interim courses in wireless, at the request of the RCAF, and soon found himself acting as a wireless operator gunner (WAG). His B-24 Liberator crew joined up together in Bermuda, and on loan from the RCAF to the RAF, Bibs and his crew were then stationed in Ceylon, India (now Sri Lanka), and remained there completing 2 1/2 years of service, flying far and wide and narrowly missing pitching in the China Sea on far too many occasion. He completed one of the longest flights in WWII, flying from Ceylon to Sumatra and Singapore. He was awarded the Burma Star; and after being asked to serve in the Berlin Air Lift following WWII, he decided to retire and return to Newfoundland in March, 1947, following his discharge. He served as a wireless operator in Gander, Newfoundland and then returned to Corner Brook where he next owned and operated his taxi and bus service which later became known as Mayfair Taxi and Car Rental.
In 1951, Bibs purchased his first of two planes, and flew as a bush pilot delivering mail and ill Newfoundlanders requiring medical care to the communities in Nfld. with more medical services at the time. Approached by Industrial Acceptance Corporation, a car financing institution, he opened and became Branch Manager of the first loan company in Corner Brook, other than chartered banks, Industrial Acceptance Corporation's Niagara Finance. Next, instead of accepting Niagara's request that he move to the mainland, Bibs became sales manager, assistant manager, and then manager for 30 odd years of Corner Brook Garage Ltd., a GM dealership, and its associated companies, Corner Brook Foundry and Machine Company, Harmon Motors, Tilden Rent-A-Car for all Nfld., Transport Ltd., and then an Esso Gas Station as well. Bibs also built and operated his own office building, Commerce Court on Main Street, Corner Brook. While always managing to be available for his children, even coming home to have lunch with them each day, Eugene was involved in numerous community activities as a volunteer. He served as a member and director for numerous associations and Boards, up to 17 years with some, which have included the following: Sir Wilfred Grenfell College (Memorial University of Newfoundland) Advisory Board; Western Memorial Hospital Board including its Finance Committee; Central Guarantee Trust Co.; Nfld. & lab. Automobile Dealers Association (and past president); Corner Brook Chamber of Commerce; Kinsmen Club (also one of its founding members); Humber-St. Barbe R.C. School Board; School Tax Authority; Parish Council (Holy Redeemer); and the Bay of Islands Yacht Club. The later affiliation was a result of his decision to own two sailboats, the Janet Marie I and II, and teach his family how to sail the ocean as did their forefathers; while acquiring land and building a cottage at Pinchgut Lake for his children and grandchildren to enjoy. His numerous exploits as an adventurer and risk taker have left his family with many fond memories, and humorous tales, some hard to believe in their reality when one considers how careful parents now must be: his children benefited from his philosophy following WWII: "if you're not being shot at, you have nothing to fear" so enjoy life, and dance with me.
Eugene ("Bibs") will be resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.. Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, June 25, at 9:30 a.m. from St. Pius X Parish. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. YETMAN (Dawe), Elsie Patience - Passed away suddenly on June 25, 2013 at her home, Elsie Patience (Dawe) Yetman. Elsie was born at Port-de-Grave on October 13, 1953, the youngest of three daughters born to Emmie and Sam Dawe. She continued to live there after her marriage to Kevin Yetman, and their three children were born in that community. Elsie was very thankful that her six precious grandchildren were also all living in close proximity. Her world revolved around her family-especially her grandchildren. When her own children were young she took a leadership role in their activities- whether it was school, Beavers or Church. She had the amazing ability, with the help of Kevin, to be present at every activity that her grandchildren were involved in, even if they were in two places at the same time. Elsie was also committed to volunteer activities in her church and community. She spent her entire life as a dedicated member of St. Luke's Anglican Church. Over the years she worked tirelessly on many committees and activities. In later years she served as President/Vice President of the ACW where she and Eleanor creatively worked out a schedule that they could handle collectively to see that the association/church work was done. In her earlier years she was a leader of the Junior Auxiliary and Girls' Auxiliary where she forged a wonderful relationship with many of the young girls of Port-de Grave. Elsie worked at the Port de Grave fish plant for 26 years. There she collected a large circle of friends (particularly Evelyn) among her co-workers and in addition to her work, she enjoyed the social life of the plant. Elsie was predeceased by her parents Emmie and Sam Dawe, special cousin Walt and her brother-in-law Fred Yetman. The warmth, sense of humour and positive attitude of this amazing woman were cherished by all who knew her. Left to celebrate her vibrant life full of treasured memories are her loving, devoted husband Kevin; her daughter Joanne (John) Efford, her sons Sheldon (Brenda) Yetman and Jeremy (Jennifer) Yetman; her cherished grandchildren; John, Jenna, Emma, Owen, Avery and Katie; her sisters Vera (Richard) French and Audrey (Terry) Burke; her nieces and nephews Barb (Derek), Brenda (Jason), Adam (Natasha), Joel, Lesley (Mike); her sister-in-law Chorine Yetman and brother-in-law Dave (Ann) Yetman and their families. An integral part of Elsie's life was her extended Dawe family, especially Walter (deceased), Pearl, Bill, Sam, Bob, Margaret, Peter and Paul; her Petten cousins George, Dot, Frazer, Willis, Barbara, Emmie, Audrey and their families and Bert Reid; as well as Louise and Faith, who were first in her mother's care many years before. Elsie will be resting at Moore's Funeral Home in Bay Roberts for public visitation on Friday, June 28th from 10:00 - 12:00 Noon; 2:00 -5:00 p.m.; 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.. The funeral will take place on Saturday, June 29th at 2:00 p.m. with interment at St. Luke's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Elsie Yetman Legacy Fund for ARVC / Sudden Cardiac Death Research at Memorial University.
